Best of luck to the guy... He was dedicated to what he was doing here... He loved the university, and he loved his players. However, we were going in the opposite direction.  I harbor no ill feelings about him and the hire because Hoke was the guy to reunite the fanbase.  At the end of the day, we need a guy who can win more than a Michigan man.  His tenure will be viewed more as a learning experience than anything else.

It didn't work here, but hopefully you can land on your feet as either a head coach at a mid major program or an assistant coach at a Power 5 conference school.  Thank you for your years of service here!

But I feel bad for both Coach Hoke and for Michigan.  This is not a day to celebrate IMO.  But, at least the program can start to move forward with no more uncertainty about Hoke's status.  I'm very grateful for all the effort he put into the program, his class, his great recruiting, and love of Michigan.  Just like RR, I harbor zero ill will toward him and I wish him and his family all the best in the future.  This was just a business decision for U-M and they made the right one.

He was never the attractive hire. And I remember the reaction from many in the college football world was, "Really? This was the best Michigan could do?". But I really, really hoped for the best when he said that he would have walked from California to be the head coach at Michigan. That's the kind of love you want from your head coach. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be and this needed to be done. My favorite memory of him will always be during the final seconds of the 97 OSU game where he picked Lloyd up into a big bear hug. I wish him the best and I know he'll always wish Michigan the best.

Agreed -- good guy, cared for his players and coaches -- just seemed out of his league.

I will have a beer for him and his staff tonight.

Now Mattison, make a phone call to John Harbaugh and tell him we don't have a coach anymore and he can consider the opportunity...
