but I have seen this university make so many asinine decisions that I won't beleive it until Hackett announces the decision in a press conference.

This isn't criticism... I'm honestly curious.  Is this how you expect to react to seeing Hoke fired?  I want him fired, too, but I'm expecting to be sad while watching his press conference.  That's not always true for me - case in point: Brandon's firing - but to me Hoke's firing will feel necessary, appropriate, good for Michigan... and totally joyless.

I'll walk away feeling like he's a good man who conducted himself gracefully in difficult circumstances, and whose worst crime was taking a dream job that he wasn't really qualified to have.  (Or, more specifically, being too loyal to mediocre assistants, because in his core Hoke's just not as cutthroat as you need to be at this level of his profession.)

If Hoke were a competent coach, then guys like Gardner would be eyeing the NFL draft and have high hopes.

I'll be happy when Hoke is gone. I mean, Lloyd & RR were nice guys, hell from everything I read, Fred Jackson is even a nicer guy than Hoke and I would have loved him to be let go like 10 years ago.

...when your "dream job" has a million dollar golden parachute, it becomes hard to have normal sympathy.  I'm also not sure his handling of the Brendan Gibbons makes him as 'good a man' as some view him.  Also the Shane Morris fiasco showed that incompetent decisions carry higher risks than just losing.

Hoke may be at heart a decent guy but he LIED about the Gibbons incident, he has had more "sons" get into off field trouble the last few years than Dantonio. F Clark, and C York were major black eyes just since the beginning of this season. "Gracefully" is an interesting way to describe Hoke and how he has handled himself. I am sorry for anyone to lose their job, even when warranted but this meme about the greatness of Hoke as a person may be over-stated. I was never impressed with his arrogant, dismissive and complete lack of eloquence when dealing with the media. Not to mention the Shane Morris concussion issue.

Best summation of the situation I have seen yet, my hat is off to you Mr. Ferguson.

Teams tend to take on the personality of their head coaches, and while Team 135 should have enjoyed more wins, they will still benefit from being the kids that Hoke helped shape into good men, and the experiences they have had will transcend the W/L stats forever in their lives.  I hope this knowledge is a comfort to Brady Hoke as well.

Would a meeting be necessary if he was being retained?

I would think if he were staying, no meeting would be needed other than, "Hey, have a great meeting with the team, tell them I said 'Hello' and I'll see you at the Banquet"

Not so sure about that. From all previous comments, this "meeting" is an end of the year review. Asssessments can be good and/or bad. The fact that there's a meeting doesn't mean Hoke is definitely getting fired. I'll believe it when it's announced.

leads me to think it's not going to be JH.  He still has what, a month of games to play?  And the first reporter that sees him after Hoke is fired will ask the question.

I guess we'll know for sure then, depending on what kind of a non-answer, answer, he gives.

They will never announce the termination of a coach and who the new coach will be in the same meeting.  Even Brandon waited a few days after firing RR.  This meeting and subsequent announcement will be about Hoke's status and nothing else.

Completely untrue. There's a lot more to a coaching staff then just hole. They would be selfish to wait and not let the other coaches look for new jobs. It's the right thing for the other coaches. Why waste their time for a month when they could be interviewed

The AD and Harbaugh could already have a deal, but just not publicly announced.  When you try to upgrade jobs, don't you already have a contract with the new employer all signed with the i's dotted and the t's crossed before you tell your old employer to stuff it?

Hackett has been, or soon will be in contact with Les Miles. Don't be surprised if sometime before christmas, Les Miles is our HC.

says the same thing and I am not sure how I feel about my gut.   Miles is a sexy hire and from his media interactions its obvious he loves Michigan and wants to come home.  He is a bit older for a coach but can recruit with the best of them.  I just dont know..I like it, but then I dont.  If its not Jim, is Miles the second best option?

Ugh, my emotions are running wild.

Oh and good luck Brady, we had good times and bad times, unfortunately the bad times heavily out weighed the bad times.  Let us tip the cap and say our goodbyes.
