Alcohol on gameday

Submitted by cargo on

So what exactly is the rule about alcohol on gameday. Where can you drink it, does it have to be in bag/cup etc etc. Im a bit tight on money so i cant really hit a bar before like usual and plan to bring my own.

If you aren't at the golf course, keep it at your tailgate. A cop made some guys right next to me dump out there beers at the corner of stadium and main and threatened them with a citation if they didn't.

As MGoStoob said stay off public property. Any tailgate lots are fine. If you park at the Pioneer High School lot they have signs that say no alcohol but I don't think they really enforce that. Just don't cross streets or walk on the sidewalks with an open drink.

Reminds me of when I went to the Preakness a few years back, which is an absolute shitshow. On our way in a couple cops stopped my friend and I to search our backpacks, which, of course, were packed with beer. They told us to crack open and pour out every can. I was a bit miffed given the drunken debauchery going on all around, but sure enough there was a sign that said "no alcohol beyond this point." Just as I was about to empty the first beer, one of the cops said "ahhh we're just kiddin'! Get in line!"

2001 i just turned 21 and saw a cop on E. University (i had a beer). I was on the lawn of a house and was fine. The cop called me over to the car, i thought i was fine... the second i stepped off the curb he jumped out the car, took my beer, and wrote me a ticket for having open container! WTF

On a less nostalgic note, flasks are cool to bring into the stadium... no pat downs, no metal detectors... but they do look for dumb people who dont try to hide the flasks they snuck in. Every week i see stadium staff with a box of confiscated flasks around 4th quarter.

I like to bring lil jack to throw in my coke (you can buy soda, water, coffee, hot choc at games... no beer or liq for sale). Maybe some Bailys for the cocco, but thats hard to clean out of a flask... milky smell forever.

No open alcohol on public property. Just don't be stupid and stay off the sidewalk as well as the grass between the street and the sidewalk. Just don't be stupid about it and you should be alright. I guarantee there will be more egregious offenders than you. That being said I did see someone have a cop chase after him last weekend after he saw him holding a cup.

You know what they say though: You don't have to outrun the bear, just the drunken frat boys.

..when you were allowed to take alcohol into the stadium.

It's funny; I go to both football games at an off-campus stadium (Raymond James) and basketball games on campus (Sun Dome) at USF, and both places sell beer. At the football games, they actually have a couple of full bars.

I think it adds to the atmosphere, and seldom to I see anyone being dragged out for D&D.

but having 110,000 fans creates a much different dynamic than 60,000 (which i believe is what USF stadium sits). Double the Trouble.

Plus, if they sold alchohol i could just imagine the law suits that would result when the first person slipps and falls from the entry gate at row 60 down to row one.

were you allowed to bring booze into the stadium??? my dad has had season tickets for 32 years now and back in the day he had to sneak the pints of pepermint schnapps in.... he also told me that when i really young like 5 or 6 they would hide the pints on me because no one was going search a kid...

I like to watch at home. I drink heavily when we make a good play and heavily when we make a bad one. By the end of the game, I am completely plastered. At this point: I go to MGoBlog and send emotional, non-fact based rants calling for RR's head. About an hour later, I start to come down and post something about defensive recruiting. About 2 hours later, I feel guilty about my "fire RR" post, only to get negbanged to hell by the Bloggers before I can take it back. I then go back to Scout where I feel much more at home. I start drinking again, repost my "fire RR" rant to rave reviews with my Scout brethren.

Get yourself a "hot contents" style disposable coffee cup and you can walk up down the streets, talk to the police, no one will bother you.

You can buy these at the grocery store, or give your Starbucks hostess a tip and get an extra dozen.

From what is likely to happen, the answer is yes.

I drank three beers while walking up main against Purdue. As long as you aren't being a d-bag about it and have some sense, you should be fine.

To put it in perspective, I've never given walking around with a beer a second thought. I think a prior poster said it best, don't be "that guy" who draws attention to himself, stumbles in traffic, screams at people, throws beers, etc. Have one for me as I'm missing my first home OSU game in a while.
