Would Mattison go to OSU ?
There is actually a post over at Bucknuts hoping that Michigan cleans house this week so that they can hire Greg Mattison as their Defensive Coordinator. At first I laughed at this idea, but I know Mattison worked for Urban Meyer back in Florida and are probably still friends.
I think there is a good chance this might happen if/when Hoke gets fired and if the new Coach does not retain him. OSU seems unhappy with their defense and what better way to solve their problem and stick it to us at the same time.
I am hoping he goes back to the NFL or decides to retire rather than ending up in Columbus

I think he is quite capable of making new relationship with other players.

Doesn't he have family in, or near Ann Arbor?

Geez sorry folks.

So do you think he can do it or not?

Yeah, unfortunately. Mattison left UM for Notre Dame, so why not OSU?
Love Mattison, and hope he somehow stays with the new regime.

You really love Mattison after today? And the entire season of defenses folding when it matters?

Yeah, I do.

anytime they go up against an offense with a pulse they put up 35. He's good, not great.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:38 PM ^
not what he has done lately. I don't even consider him good anymore especially against teams that run tempo offenses.

the defense give up a score before the half?
that was a killer. Not to mention they came right out and scored on the 1st drive of the second half.
he's getting old. He won't have much of a shelf life at OSU even if he did go.

Honestly, the defense didn't play that bad today. On that 4th down with 5 minutes left in the 4th if jake ryan had not let him slip through his arms then it would be our ball. Also if the secondary didn't bit so hard then there definitely wouldn't have been a touchdown. While the defense maybe didn't look amazing today, it definitely did enough to keep us in the game.

took the job with ND when coaches salaries were more modest & ND offered a tuition benefit that UM didn't.
Since Mattison's kids are grown, that motivation wouldn't apply this time.

He seemed to be fairly adamant that he'd only work for Hoke (in college that is), that he considers him a good friend, etc.
Mattison to OSU is pretty far down on my list of concerns re: the football program at this time though, but it would be a compelling side story.

I think what he said was that Brady Hoke and Michigan was the only situation for which he would've left John Harbaugh.
If he finds himself without a job, I would guess that all bets are off. I sure would hate seeing him on that sideline, though.

Wby, if we ever got a competent offense, then we know the OSU defense would fold against us.

Haha. This would happen to UM.

I don't think he'd make that move, but if he did I'd be fine with that. I think we're all pretty familiar with the man's tendencies at this point.

Its possible, but unlikely. I also saw a post on Twitter that Texas A&M is targeting him for their DC role as well.

That being said, if (when) Hoke is relieved of his duties I expect GMatt to retire.

He was at A&M with his buddy Bob Davie. Also that is another reason he went to ND. Davie was HC at ND at the time.

I believe he has grandchildren in the A2 area. He must be a pretty wealthy man. So he may just want to retire, stick around, remain a beloved UM football figure while he finally has time for his family.
