When a player signals a fair catch, instead of letting up, the punt team should continue at full speed so that if it's dropped, someone on the punt team can dive for it, clobbering the returner in the process, and leaving the ball alone to be recovered by other members of the punt team.
If the return man catches it, the gunner could just run by to the side of the returner. Even better would be for the gunner to find the football when the fair catch is signalled, and then time his fly-by approach accordingly so that he could pounce at the feet of the return man should the opportunity present itself.
(Note that I believe a loose/bobbled ball isn't fair game until it hits the ground.)

FSU got screwed there?

Florida play calling is bizarre
November 29th, 2014 at 7:01 PM ^

Florida State likely wins.

Florida choked this one away, honestly

Did Auburn rub off their luck of the Irish on FSU this year? Christ... GaTech your turn to knock off these impersonators.
November 29th, 2014 at 7:11 PM ^
These games are so much better than Michigan games this year. It's really sad to see.

Texas Tech trying to make things interesting against Baylor, also Mississippi State making moves

The defender just used it as an opportunity to take a cheap shot. "Oh, what whistle?"
November 29th, 2014 at 7:11 PM ^
Baylor is not making a strong case. Expect TCU to be #4.

And there go Mississippi State's chances of a playoff berth
November 29th, 2014 at 7:22 PM ^
So, go Badgers?

TCU > Baylor. Baylor beating them was a 1 out 10 abberration.
November 29th, 2014 at 7:33 PM ^
Holy shit... TTU with the upset... potentially.
November 29th, 2014 at 7:36 PM ^
Dang. You have to at least throw that up for grabs.
November 29th, 2014 at 7:39 PM ^
Damn showing Pitt Miami on ESPN 2 on DirectTV rather than end of Baylor game.
With Miss State loss any upset next week of FSU, Bama, or Oregon sets up either Baylor or OSU into the playoff IF Baylor wins tonight. If not, OSU is the "5th team" - damnit. Go Wisconsin!
November 29th, 2014 at 7:41 PM ^
Baylor. Exhibit A should be the VT loss to WF. Also Baylor beating TCU is better than anything OSU has or will do.
November 29th, 2014 at 7:42 PM ^
Aren't they already set up? TCU will temporarily move up to 4, but they have zero chance of keeping it unless Baylor loses. Really, it will just come down to which one of Baylor and OSU is more impressive next week. And if they both lose then TCU gets in.
November 29th, 2014 at 7:53 PM ^
Baylor will probably lose to Kansas State, especially if Petty is out for that game.
November 29th, 2014 at 7:42 PM ^
Ok baylor wins by 2 - whew. Will be curious to see if they push OSU ahead of Baylor - both uninspiring and both lost their QB.
November 29th, 2014 at 8:09 PM ^
But I think that the rankings are now really:
1. Bama
2/3 Oregon/FSU ("weak" ACC swept the SEC 4-0 today)
4. The Top Big 12 team (TCU this week, Baylor? next)
5. Ohio State
6. The 2nd Big 12 team (Baylor this week, TCU? next)
I think the Top Big12 team stays ahead of OSU unless both TCU and Baylor lose next week.
November 29th, 2014 at 7:46 PM ^
Three games ago, Patrick Mahomes threw for about 100 yards against Texas in his first meaningful action this season... tonight he throws for damn near 600 against Baylor. How the hell does that even happen?

November 29th, 2014 at 7:53 PM ^
Riddle me this - why the hell is the Iron Bowl on ESPN and the Civil War on ABC?
November 29th, 2014 at 7:56 PM ^
So Miss State is out, Barrett is injured for OSU. Does OSU slide into #4 or does TCU?
November 29th, 2014 at 7:59 PM ^
So assuming Alabama wins, top 10 playoff committee should be
- Bama
- Oregon
- FSU
- TCU
- Baylor or OSU
- OSU or Baylor
- Arizona (passing MSU due to beating a high rank team)
- MSU
- KSU
- Wiscy
Falling out - Miss State, Georgia, UCLA. Missouri and GA Tech should jump to just outside top 10.
November 29th, 2014 at 8:05 PM ^
Would love to see the chaos that ensues. Especially if Mizzou could beat Bama....although that definitely increases the likelihood of OSU getting in
