OT: New Star Wars Trailer
New Star Wars trailer is here. I hope it isn't too JJ-Abramsy, but it still gives me a tingle

Please tell me this is a reference to Robot Chicken? Their Star Wars specials are tremendous, "You dirty little smuggler."

That Millenium Falcon shot... Awesome. I bet everyone watching it was cocking their head to the left to find that equilibrium. I caught myself doing it the second watch and then had to conciously prevent myself from doing it on the third watch.

100% agree. I thought I was over the franchise after Lucas ruined the first three, however, this shot brought me back. How pathetic is that? I was thinking Han is going to f*ck them up and I started to get excited. I'm 41.

The star wars trailer was good, but this was much better. I literally stood off my couch and yelled, as it was a complete surprise. I had no idea that they were making a new Jurassic movie, and the premise looks awesome, kind of a doomsday scenario.

Granted, the acting and plots were not all that good, but seeing dinos run amok was a pretty awesome experience.
November 28th, 2014 at 6:10 PM ^
I reacted to the maneating dinosaurs; it was such a terror, worse than anything else I had ever experienced, movie-wise. It's like the movie awoke a dormant primal fear of pre-historic creatures; sure glad they all died out. I forgot about that reaction until I saw this trailer. I need to think if I really want to experience that again. Why in the world would you want to create a even fiercer dinosaur in a lab than already existed in nature???
People iz dumb.

The premise of trained raptors doesn't ignite a spark in me.

Really curious about how this will go. Original Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies of all time. Can't be worse than JP3 (though I love me some William H Macy, no matter what movie). Could be as good as The Lost World or better. Stoked.

Can't wait for Jurrassic World. Chris Pratt is awesome and it comes out on my birthday.

I liked JJ's Star Trek movies so I have high hopes with episode 7. Although it wouldn't be hard to be be better than episodes 1-3, oh ma gawd were those terrible
November 28th, 2014 at 3:53 PM ^
I could have sworn that I saw certain Star Trek influenced camera angles and viewpoints that were also utilized in this trailer. JJ again, huh?
Star Trek II was terrific, so I'll give it a shot.
November 28th, 2014 at 8:01 PM ^
I also love Star Trek II, Ricardo Montalbán's performance was spectacular and James Horner's score was top-notch.
November 28th, 2014 at 3:54 PM ^
and then I watched them all. My goodness did the prequels stuck. The fans were not off at all on that one. I also am not a ST fan but, like SW, knew the basic gist. I liked his renditions. Maybe the new SW movies won't be trash?
November 28th, 2014 at 8:54 PM ^
Nope. 1-3 are all great. Before you assume I am a young punk, I am almost 33.

That movie mind fucked me right in the mind pussy.
November 28th, 2014 at 4:56 PM ^
Just saw it on IMAX. Pretty sweet effects along with the mind penetration.
November 28th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
It is based a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
November 28th, 2014 at 4:14 PM ^
I'm cautiously optimistic. I think it's hard for me to feel like it's a continuation of the previous trilogies' story. Can't do worse than the prequels. The floor for this movie is at the level of Revenge of the Sith, which isn't atrocious IMO.
A little frustrated that we didn't really learn anything about the plot from the trailer. But I'm also not surprised.
November 28th, 2014 at 4:18 PM ^
I'm not criticizing, but I'm just curious: why does everyone hate the prequel trilogy so much? Of course it's not better than the original trilogy, but aside from Jar Jar, what is it about the prequels that everyone hates so much?

Ep1: didn't need to be told. could have been 45mins.
Ep2: adequate
Ep3: last 30mins was rushed, so much happened in that movie, it should have been 4 hrs
November 28th, 2014 at 7:12 PM ^
There's this little thing called casting and they blew it big time with him. Awful actor.
November 28th, 2014 at 4:34 PM ^
I think they obliterated far more than they should. I still watch them once or twice a year (watch the others more). The dialogue is pretty bad (though that has never been a strong suit for Lucas, other than one liners). And just too tacky at times. I don't think the story was as strong as it could have been either.
But Darth Maul was an amazing villain. Second favorite behind Vader, easily. They should have kept him on for at least one more movie.
November 28th, 2014 at 6:17 PM ^
The duel at the end between him and Obi-Wan was pretty epic. I agree they should have milked that character for at least one more movie.
November 28th, 2014 at 5:46 PM ^
Let's see.
Plots were stupid, boring, and didn't even make much sense. Really? One minute Anakin is still a good guy and the next he is slaughtering children? Yeah, not buying it.
Acting was terrible.
Dialog was worse than the acting.
CGI characters were awful.
Special effects got in the way of the movies instead of making them cool.
All in all I'd say Phantom Menace is the most disappointing sequel in history. The only thing close is the 2nd Matrix movie.
November 28th, 2014 at 9:34 PM ^
Matrix 2 isn't that bad. The chase scene with the albino twins and semi is bad ass.
November 28th, 2014 at 11:30 PM ^
That's why when I say Phantom Menace is the most disappointing sequal (prequel) in the history of Hollywood I'm saying it was an all-time epically horrible movie. That and the movies it was following were all-time classics. The combination of the two is what made it a disaster.
About the only thing worth watching in Phantom Menace was the Darth Maul-Obi Wan-Qui Gon Jhin fight scene. They should have just had them fight for 120 minutes and forgotten the rest of the movie.
Matix 2 wasn't unbelievably terrible, it was just a major letdown after the brilliance of the Matrix. There were so many things they could have done with it, and they did NOTHING. Yeah that one freeway chase scene was cool, I'll give you that. If you managed to stay awake till that point in the movie. As far as I could tell, half the people in the theather fell asleep during the pointless 10-minute rave/trance scene.
They could have redeemed Matrix 2 with Matrix 3 by doing some really cool plot twist stuff, but 3 was terrible--even worse than 2. And the whole story ended up just being uninteresting. I just pretend the 2nd and 3rd movies never happened. If the new Star Wars film are good, I'll probably do the same with the prequels--just start at 4 and go forward.

She died of a broken heart. A...broken...fucking...heart.
November 29th, 2014 at 9:03 AM ^
There are a multitude of reasons. They were terrible movies in just about every way. If they didn't have the name "Star Wars" stamped on them, then even their greatest stalwart defenders would acknowledge that they are garbage movies. Not just bad compared to the original trilogy, but just plain bad movies.
The reasons include but are not limited to:
1. A focus on cartoony, infantile humor aimed at children.
2. Terrible acting performances and terrible casting choices.
3. Terrible script and storytelling. By far the most important event is Anakin's turn to the dark side and it looks like it was given about 60 seconds of thought by George Lucas. He murders a bunch of children because the emperor told him that he would somehow learn to save his wife? How terrible of a writer do you have to be to think up that garbage?
4. Shitty CGI-fest action scenes with poor or nonexistent choreography, outside of maybe one scene in each movie.
If you haven't seen them, watch the Harry Plinkett reviews on youtube. They nail just about everything perfectly about why so many people think that movies suck so badly.
November 28th, 2014 at 4:20 PM ^
Not to pick nits, but I think this was technically a "teaser" trailer, so plot details of any kind were unlikely.
I loved that Millenium Falcon shot. It reminds me of the original movies and how Lucas always talked about how limited the cinematography was - even with their groundbreaking techniques. That shot is something that seems right out of Lucas' deepest imagination. Very exciting.
