Bacon's Plan A, Plan B and Plan C. You Won't Like Plan B.

John U. Bacon on the Huge Show this afternoon, offering his updated assessment:

- Plan A is (in no order) Jim Harbaugh, John Harbaugh or Les Miles.

- Plan B is Greg Schiano. Dan Mullen was part of Plan B, but he's fading.

- Plan C is another Brady Hoke.

I'm increasingly less enamored with Bacon. He has no inside information and is clearly trying to push his Bo coaching tree agenda. I'm not even sure why his opinions are threadworthy

I'd wager that he would love to talk about anything else, but the Michigan coaching search is all anyone else wants to talk about.  What is he supposed to do?  Ignore their questions and just answer with other random topics?

"Hey ESPN, I know you're calling me and want me to appear on your national news channel to discuss the Michigan coaching situation, but I'm concerned that the visitors of Michigan related message boards might get too sick of seeing my face and hearing my opinion, so I'm going to have to respectfully decline your offer of free publicity and likely increase in money into my pocket.  Unless, of course, you want to discuss anything other than that thing that gets you ratings."

Don't blame the effect, blame the cause.  Bacon getting asked to be on radio and tv shows all over the place is the effect of Michigan sucking hard and having to look for a 4th coach in under a decade.  I have little doubt that 99% of the population would be doing exactly what he is doing right now.

Just annoyed that we have to have continuous "Bacon" updates. As to your question, it depends. If I were going to make significantly more money that I needed, I would probably do what he's doing. Otherwise, it would be a tougher decision. That isn't how I wold like it to go, but money is pretty much everything in this world.

and yet here you are telling us how annoyed you are. Were you expecting a revelation and became annoyed when there was nothing new in your eyes? Or did you click through already annoyed? When the structure of UM football is flailing as badly as it is for as long as it has, breathlessly following speculation about what comes next is what people do. Eight years of suckage is tiring for everybody. Just hope somebody does something right before too long so that we aren't here doing this again four years from now. Meanwhile, I suppose you'll just keep being annoyed.

He is on the Huge Show all the time lately, and naturally Bill asks him about the next Michigan coach. He makes it clear he has no inside information but respectfully answers the question. Every Time he is on the show it gets put in a thread here.

A bit overtop about the subject, but I really don't think he is when you look at it closer.

I tend to like Bacon, but neither him nor Sam Webb have had any useful information about the coaching situation this fall. This is likely because the talk to former players who haven't a clue about what is going on. There are two people who know (AD and Schizzel) and they aren't talking to Bacon or Webb.

yeah, hiring a guy who went 60-26 at a P5 school and was coming off a season where his team had risen to #1 in the country in the final week of the season was a real panic move.

The retconning of the 2007 coaching search into some kind of disaster wherein we hired some super unqualified candidate is disturbing to me. That was the best hire possible, one that nobody had even imagined possible. Rich Rodrgiuez had been Alabama's first choice before even Saban the previous season. It's pure hindsight to act like that hiring was a harbinger of doom

Sure he did not get the support he needed from the powers that be...but shit talk about the worst fit of all time. Hindsight...LMAO. I think you are the one that is as you say "but hurt"...since u were a Rich Rod guy...and that was an epic fail. Where was I...I wanted Les Miles in 2007....but for whatever reason (rumors are plentiful)...nobody ever got on the dam phone and asked him if he would like to be the head football coach at Michigan. Since you are a clairvoyant...if we hired Les Miles...can you tell me if we would be having our 3rd coaching search in 7 years? And now crickets.

Cali, RR wasnt epic fail. Michigan didnt support him from day 1. Your acting like all those michigan that though any coach that michigan hired should win right away but RR didnt because he was undermine by everyone.

 

Brady Hoke is epic fail. He one of Carr Assistant that Carr want someone from for his staff to be head coach in which he got one to become Head Coach. Look at how epic that was. fail, fail and fucking fail.

I appreciate that you are spectacularly invested in defending the status quo--Hoke, Brandon, Lloyd etc--but you should have some basis for it beyond your fact-free contrarian opinion.

Watched Michigan football games when Rodriguez coached here. Did you? Absolutely knowing that rich rod was a disaster and wanting hoke gone can co-exist man. They are not mutually exclusive.

The point of the book was that there were many other factors, some outside of RR's control, contributing to that disaster besides RR being a terrible coach. Which he clearly isn't. If Arizona played us tomorrow I think we'd lose by about 50.
