Sorry, but you're wrong about that. There are a lot of good Michigan fans (alumni or not, MGoBloggers or not, within 50 miles or not) who have various good reasons for not going today. There's weather concerns for some, for others the 3:30 kickoff poses problems, and for many, it comes down to choosing between going to their local High School's football semifinal or the Michigan game. By my quick count, at least 13 of the remaining 30 schools playing today are located within an hour of Ann Arbor, including Saline, just down the road a few miles from The Big House.

Speaking to the weather, and as a general note to anyone in SE Michigan who has not yet looked out the window, there is a Freezing Rain Advisory at the moment. At least where I am, there's a decent sheet of ice on the cars, grass and streets right now, so if you're doing something before you leave for the game (as it will be above 32 degrees later and this won't be an issue by kickoff), be careful.

I'm going, giving myself 3 1/2 hours for what normally would be a 2 1/2 hour drive. Might not tailgate for the first time in a few seasons due to the weather, but I'll be there.  The family in the next row in front of mine will be getting there late, as they're first going to their nephew/cousin's Division 1 playoff semi, playing for Clarkston vs. East Kentwood up at Brighton High School.  They plan on hopping into their SUV immediately after that game and heading south to Ann Arbor, but they're luckier than most in that Brighton is a closer venue than for most. 

My brother from Grand Rapids originally was planning on going today; instead, he drove up to Marquette yesterday to watch the West Catholic Division 5 semifinal vs. Menominee, being played at 11 am today at the Superior Dome.

 

I'm sure there are thousands of others with their own good reasons for not being there today.

Like everyone else is saying it's hard to get excited at this point.  Yes we still love M football but the repeated beatings have had their effect.

You don't have to love everything about the team right now although I'm always excited to be in the stadium whether we're 0-12 or 12-0 but with high school prices we have a duty to show up to senior day. The last thing we want is 20,000 empty seats for rival fans to poke fun at.

One thing the last seven or so years have proven to me is that I am always excited about M game day Saturdays, and I am always excited about going to the Big House. I will be there today, and intend to stay for the entire game - no matter what the weather or game brings. Support M, the team, the seniors, and especially Devin. Go Blue!

They count tickets sold?  I have heard this before but that doesn't make a lot of senes to me, since the attendance has usually been a few thousand more than capacity in the past.  They can't possibly oversell their capacity.  I had always assumed the attendance figure included media/team/stadium personnel etc.

I have to say I'm amazed that in 2014, there are still people who believe the attendance figures are an actual count of fans at the stadium.  That hasn't been the case in sports since sometime last century.

Attendance in college football is the number of tickets sold (or otherwise distributed) plus all the passes given out for the press box and field, plus I think everyone who works at the stadium.  It's basically intended to be as high a number as possible.

Senior day or not, cheap tickets or not, I have the utmost respect for anybody who will sit in freezing rain to watch bad football. To me, freezing rain is the absolute WORST condition (far worse than snow) cause it penetrates whatever you're wearing and chills your entire body. The only games I ever remember leaving early-regardless of the score-were games played in freezing rain.

So mad Wolverine props to all in attendance today. You guys really DO deserve a badge of fandom honor.

This is a classic B1G East matchup. Years of history between these two teams. I'm wearing my thermals and will gladly show what little I'm going to expose of my face to the elements to support the seniors. Then, presumably, I'll leave early because it's stupid cold.
