This is what happens when you have a decisive athletic department. We're 2 games from the end of another shitty season and there's talk of keeping a coach whose record gets worse every year.

That's why the rest of the season, win or lose, it's a double-edged sword.
Win: I like winning and adding more footballs to the wall, but that means we're stuck with Hoke for another month and delaying the inevitable.
Loss: I'm sick of losing. This sucks.

Yeah I'm pretty sure we'll hand Hoke his walking papers after the Ohio State game regardless of whether or not a bowl is in the cards. I hope Schlissel makes a decision on the AD in the next week or two, Florida's timing on this means they want to get the jump on us.

Everyone they want is still coaching, everyone we want is still coaching. This isn't recruiting, either the position is open or it is. It's not like they're going to get a month to butter up some coach before we officially fire Hoke and then we're behind.
This does nothing but make something that was already known, official.
Now you're going to have to prepare yourself for everyone and their mom saying "no" to Florida without an official offer. A few coaches are about to get paid for saying no to a job they either don't want or were never offered.
This really doesn't affect Michigan at all. UF was already a vacancy, they still are. Nebraska firing Pelini would affect us more than this. Mora leaving UCLA would affect us, or Sumlin leaving TAMU.
It's been Michigan/UF for 2 months now and Mullen may be the only crossover candidate between the two schools. Unless for some reason Charlie Strong is interested in leaving Texas.

I really would like to see Hoke asked to resign on or about Monday the 24th -- and then allowed to coach in Columbus. I believe that's what Brian has been advocating (suggesting?) for several weeks. I'd like to beat Ohio State for a change -- but not if that means we might have two more years of Brady Hoke. Indeed, for recruiting reasons if Hoke is not fired, he probably needs to be extended. Uggh.

in the least give the program a sense of direction that you can use to salvage recruits. It is far more damaging working under the uncertainity of the head coaching position then it is working under the understanding that a new (and high profiel coach) will be running the program. Even if you don't have a successor, the fact that you made a decsion to move on at least gives you some sense of direction.
We can cite a lot of examples on how in-season changes have had a positive effect on the team as well. USC responded well to Kiffen's firing last year. The Lions responded well when Moeller was named interim coach. Just two examples that come to the top of my mind.
I find it hard to see any negative on parting ways with Hoke, there is nothing left to play for this season, there is no player development, there is no benefit to recruiting as we have seen with the mass exodus of commits. It would be hard more beneficial is someone stood up and said "this is not acceptable at Michigan" and make it clear by releaving the man responsible of his duties.

1. Florida sent a message to ticket holders that they know the status quo is not acceptable and will be making changes. We have no idea what Michigan is going to do. I got my PSD notice yesterday and will be waiting to do anything until I see what happens.
2. Florida gets a head start in the search for a new coach. They are officially open - no more "ifs" about it. We are still in limbo w/o a AD for another month or two.

It shows people that the department is committed to winning. Also ends this silly nonsense of, "Weeeelll, if Brady wins out...you know...We could just...you know...keep him?" This kind of chatter is terrifying and harmful to the fanbase, recruiting, etc.

to retain Hoke. Apparently Hoke's body of work to date is not sufficient for them to decide to terminate him. Onterwise they would have given him indications he will be finished at the end of the season. Sam Webb has talked to Hoke and Hoke has said he has not be told he will be let go.
Logically, one can only conclude Hackett is hoping to find a reason to keep him.
Don't be surprised if they opt to keep Hoke should he beat Maryland and become bowl eligible.

Off course Hoke hasn't said he is being let go before the university announces it. That never ever happens. Hoke is gone and everyone knows it.

Sam Webb is very close to Hoke and the athletic dept. I don't believe Hoke when asked by Webb if he has indication he will be terminated would lie to Sam. Rather he would have said "no comment" ot something else.
Like you and others I will be pissed if he is not let go. My donations will dry up and I will forget Michigan football. The thought of Hoke being retained is offensive to all of us. But don't let your emotions mask reality. Clearly to this point Hackett has not decided on Hoke's fate which only means he is hoping Hoke provides evidence to keep him.
Beating Maryland (not a diffcult task) probably will save him. Other than his record everything else about the program is exactly what Michigan wants. Good recruits who are academically qualified and graduate.

• You make it sound like Sam Webb is closer to Brady Hoke than he is to John Beilein or Carol Hutchins or Kim Barnes Arico or Erik Bakich or Bev Plocki or Mike Bottom or John Paul or Red Berenson or any other UM head coaches that he regularly and frequently has on his show. I've listened to Webb on a daily basis ever since he joined WTKA several years ago, and there is nothing I've ever heard him say that supports your notion that he has any kind of special relationship with Hoke that goes beyond what he has with the other head coaches.
• When and where did Webb ask Brady Hoke if he's going to be terminated? Did he recount this in any article on Scout or the Detroit News?
• If you were actually truly familiar with statements by Webb that would point one way or the other to Hoke's status, you would be able to refer to his very pointed statement that he's made several times over the last two months that Hoke will not receive an extension in order to shore up the recruiting class. If Brandon, Schlissel, or Hackett had already made up their minds to keep Hoke, an extension before the end of the season would be eminently sensible to help prevent any further attrition of the 2015 recruiting class.
• Unlike former WTKA host Jeff Defran who on two separate occasions reported that RR was going to be imminently fired well before the end of the 2010 season, Sam Webb is not going to start reporting that somebody is going to get fired before the fact anyhow.

said no determination has been made on Hoke. He also said he has spoken to Hoke and Hoke as told him he has not heard anything regarding his status. Sam was adamant that no decision has been made.
So it is logical and fair to concluded his coaching work for Michigan to date is not enough evidence (so far) to let him go. Otherwise, he would have been told. I know this is tough to grasp but it is reality.
Don't be surprise if they extend him especially if he beats Maryland and has a competitive game against OSU. If they extend him, I am done with the program.
