Moderator Action Sticky 2014

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread:
1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third.

One nostalgia thread stayed up, but following rich people with Michigan connections around via flight tracker is going too far.

People with private jets often have them because they do routine business all over the place, and the odds are basically 100% what's going on here.

Potential explanation for Peppers not playing

He's hurt. I am not sure why some believe that there are more things afoot in this regard, although I suppose a bit more transparency from Schembechler Hall might not be such a bad thing now and again.

It might not be national news, and it may contain as much speculation as fact, but that story about Jabrill Peppers’ high school recruiting experiences was prominently placed just above the fold on the front page of today’s edition of The Record, one of the major newspapers in northern New Jersey.

If you decide to restore to the MGoBoard the thread about Jabrill Peppers’ status at Michigan, or in case you hadn’t read it, there was an earlier story in the same newspaper that contains more details surrounding Jabrill Peppers’ transfer from Don Bosco Prep to Paramus Catholic and includes a link to the full text of the email message that Jabrill Peppers sent to the reporter from northern New Jersey who’s covering this story.

The story has gotten some traction because of allegations that the northern New Jersey parochial football powers (Don Bosco Prep, Paramus Catholic, Bergen Catholic, St. Joseph Regional, DePaul Catholic and St. Peter’s Prep) have engaged in illegal recruiting practices in order to elevate their football programs to national status.  Just last month, Don Bosco was ranked as the top prep school football team in the nation.  LINK  They've lost two games since then, a 10-3 loss to Bergen Catholic last Saturday amd a 21-14 loss to Paramus Catholic on October 11. All three of those schools are ranked in the top 20 of the MaxPreps Football Freeman Rankings this week.

Becuase there’s also some bad blood between the head coaches at Don Bosco and Paramus Catholic, as revealed in another story that ran in the same newspaper, it seems like the matter won't go away too soon, at least in northern New Jersey. LINK

I forgot to mention that it was me who awarded WD 1 million (pinkie finger touching corner of lips) MGoPoints for the rest of the year, to ease the pain and suffering he experienced over the past few weeks leading up to Wednesday's Dave Brandon email front-pager.

Just one for now really, but...

ADC - The Vote

A very similar thread was up previously today, although it did not ask people to rank names per se.

Desmond Howard defends Dave Brandon

This is already being discussed extensively in another thread.

Funchess back to TE?

Yeah, this one didn't go so well, and perhaps understandably so.

CC _ Brett Bielema

We've hashed this one out before, and at 39 downvotes, this one had similar results.

CC: (satire) Equate our top candidates with female counterparts based on desirability

No, the satire tag did not, in fact, make that any more acceptable.

Snowflake from user who's posted a ton since signing up recently... with a link to their blog in the sig. That's why you've got the blog.

For the sanity of the board and because these talk about two of the often discussed candidates...

CC: Les Miles

CC: Jim Harbaugh

Of course, one was a parody of the other in a way, but still...

OT: Winston and Point Shaving Accusations

Let's go with something like this when it is more than TMZ speculating on it, OK? Otherwise, my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Just like I posted in that thread, I respectfully argue that the knee-jerk anti-Gregg Henson policy is a bit misguided. He was in the Detroit market long enough to cultivate a number of sources. Sure, he's a bit goofy, but it's undeniable he has sources at Michigan. As State Street pointed out, he had the story about Schlissel going to practice before anybody else did. The piece in question about Harbaugh isn't egregious in the least.

Long story short, he's not Ace Williams. This is a guy who has worked in the SE Michigan media. I think it's more than fair to discuss his work here. But, it's not my blog. Just a suggestion.

It was not a knee-jerk reaction. We were getting almost daily posts from him, then people see the thread posted about what Henson said, and say they heard it on MGoBlog that... and I had to make a call. Before doing so, I tried to have a conversation with him on Twitter (and BiSB chimed in as well), and it was that conversation, where Henson demonstrated he clearly didn't know the first thing about credibility and sourcing, that made the decision easy.

The problem with Henson is he posts EVERYTHING his sources tell him, with no context or filter except what Henson wants to happen. It's also who the sources are. Around Michigan there are sources, and then there's the low-hanging fruit: some former players with strong opinions, a couple of big donors, and then some HS coaches around the Midwest whose players get recruited and hear "things." I personally don't spend a lot of time cultivating sources--most who want their thing known email Brian not me--so I have a fair sense of the people who REALLY want to share something, because I end up CC'ed on the thing to Brian that Brian doesn't post. A lot of what Henson's posting is stuff that we don't put up because we can tell rigth off that it has no good basis.

The guy is a rumormongerer, as designed to promote himself via threads on message boards as Drew Sharp is. We're not gonna play along.

I didn't use the insta-ban rule like I did for Ace Williams posting. People are welcome to throw Henson's crap into threads, e.g. the one about Foote's comments. But no threads just for Henson rumors, because Henson rumors are a dime a dozen and don't meet any reasonable standard of credibility.

CC: Hayden Fox

This was inserted as a joke into a previous CC thread a few weeks ago. Actually, let's stick to A) real people (but keep Hayden in our back pocket) and B) choices were a good argument for feasibility can be made if only to reduce the clutter and keep other content visible.

Real OT: Got any grapes?

A standard deviation or two beyond allowable OT during the season. At the very least, it could have been our first play from scrimmage against Maryland, which will look something like this peformance -

Pres Schlissel clarifies remarks about athletics/academics

This was the first thread created, but the other one has a nice summary to go with it, so this is a semi-editorial decision. Nothing wrong with the thread and no offense meant to anyone.
