OT: Rose Bowl - could be very interesting
Looks like OSU vs. Oregon. Defense vs offense. Slow death vs light speed.
Question is, does defense win the championship there?
I don't think OSU can hang with Oregon, probably another Pac-10 blowout. I guess the only good thing is that USC won't be involved.

Benedict Harbaugh beating OSU, USC & Oregon would make my head asplode!
November 15th, 2009 at 10:05 AM ^
I'll bet that Stanford trashes lame-duck Fat Charlie.
November 15th, 2009 at 12:29 AM ^
Tressel can't feel good about going out there to play Oregon.
Question is, as a Michigan fan, and wanting to see the B10 do well by extension, who do you root for at this point?
Suggestions welcome.
November 15th, 2009 at 12:31 AM ^
I understand B10 pride, but I ALWAYS root against OSU.
November 15th, 2009 at 1:37 PM ^
just wanted to see what the consensus opinion was...

Ducks.
Ducks.
PS:
Ducks.

"Quack quack quack, Mr. Ducksworth."

It will be interesting to see how the Oregon spread plays against OSU. Hopefully they do to OSU what they did to USC and maybe it means we can do it too one day after we get the players that we need into this program.
November 15th, 2009 at 12:41 AM ^
I'm more interested in what uniforms Oregon shows up with than I am with how OSU will fare against them.
November 15th, 2009 at 12:56 AM ^
For the Rose Bowl, they'll unveil special uniforms featuring a brand new Nike technology that allows them to change color schemes every play.
November 15th, 2009 at 9:43 AM ^
have to admit those all black ones are pretty cool...
November 15th, 2009 at 11:25 AM ^
The flat black paint on the helmets is what did it for me. I loved them.
November 15th, 2009 at 12:59 AM ^
If Arizona wins out, they win the Pac-10.
November 15th, 2009 at 2:05 PM ^
but they would have to beat oregon, their biggest rival Arizona State, and USC to run the table.
Not likely.
November 15th, 2009 at 2:16 PM ^
They could still win the Pac-10 with Cal winning over Stanford and Oregon State winning over Oregon, they also own the tie breaker over Oregon State.
November 15th, 2009 at 1:03 AM ^
The better matchup will be the Oregon D versus OSU offense. I actually think that this could potentially by very ugly for OSU. Oregon when firing on all cylinders is scary.
That said, Oregon still has a tough game against a surprising Arizona team and the civil war is almost always a tossup.
The Pac-10 is still very much up for grabs.
November 15th, 2009 at 1:13 AM ^
Yes, don't overlook Arizona. If everyone wins out (except Oregon, who would have to lose to Arizona), Arizona would own the tie-breakers.
November 15th, 2009 at 1:12 AM ^
Whoever they'd lose to. Which is usually USC in the Rose Bowl. Since that's not going to happen (boy, who's going to luck out with that matchup in a lower bowl), I don't know. Oregon has just not shown up a couple of times, and Stanford hasn't completely made me a believer, not to mention all the talk if Jimmy adds beating OSU to his resume. Ugh. But OSU is used to Big time bowls. Either of those two teams could be a little star struck. Frankly, I want anyone but us to play USC in the Rose, so they can feel our pain. And see how easy it is to keep it close versus them.
November 15th, 2009 at 8:05 AM ^
You know, USC really isn't very good this year (yeah, that doesn't say much for OSU, does it?). Personally, I'm much more afraid of Stanford than Oregon. Stanford shows up; Oregon, sometimes, simply doesn't.
November 15th, 2009 at 3:24 PM ^
ITS A BOWL GAME HOW WOULD THEY NOT SHOW UP!?!?!
by the looks of it i see it like so
Osu-Oregon.... Oregon stomps them
Usc-Osu.... not a blowout but more convincing than in september...
Stanford-osu.... stanford wins close because of defence....
either way i think osu looses unless theres a autobid on a non-bcs team....o wait there still gonna loose.... but it wont happen.... so osu looses either way....
November 15th, 2009 at 9:33 PM ^
Yes, because no bowl team has ever failed up to show up for a bowl game...
November 15th, 2009 at 4:05 PM ^
with more than ten days to prepare have average something like 50+ points under Chip Kelly as OC and now HC. OSU can't win a shoot-out with the Ducks.
That said. Go Stanford! Go Arizona! Go Oregon State!
November 15th, 2009 at 9:38 PM ^
That's because you've never experienced the USC that has a month to prepare and knows it's they're chance to prove themselves on a National Stage. But yeah, they're not world beaters.
You're probably right about Oregon...the thing is, OSU should have SO much more talent than Stanford, you could win on that alone.
November 15th, 2009 at 11:16 AM ^
are teams that they play every year and are somewhat familiar with their schemes, players, etc. btw stanford has lost one more game than oregon so i'd say they don't always show up either.
November 15th, 2009 at 3:39 AM ^
It's still possible for four different teams to get that pac-10 championship. I know they are the least likely, but I'm rooting for the Beavers since I live there 'til my woman is done with school. It would be very nice to see my adopted team AND my home team both beat the buckeyes in the same year.
November 15th, 2009 at 10:10 AM ^
If OSU goes out there and gets destroyed is there significant heat on Tressel? I have no idea what the feeling on that is in Columbus - just asking.
I'm sure this has been discussed but when does it start to look more and more like the Carr era? Early NC, lot's of recruits, and failures on the big stage. This year's Navy game was flirting with an App State style disaster.
November 15th, 2009 at 11:54 AM ^
No. Yes it has been discussed and you can't seriously be comparing a loss to a 1-aa team and a close win versus a back-to-back 1-a bowl team, right?
November 15th, 2009 at 10:02 AM ^
"Irregardless" of who OSU plays, I hope OSU gets severely embarrassed yet again in a big bowl.
November 15th, 2009 at 11:50 AM ^
in the Rose Bowl, but they are a game back. If Oregon loses to O St then the Tree has a shot.
It would be ironic on so many fronts if Stanford plays and beat OSU in the RB. I don't know how much heat Tressel would have unless he gets destroyed in that game. Which, of course I hope for.
After watching Charlie last night, I know our best days against ND may be behind us. He makes a good whipping boy too bad someone with a brain will get the job next year. Although the ND admin has not proven they can find one. MAybe now we'll find out just how much his buyout is.
November 15th, 2009 at 11:52 AM ^
Oregon vs Ohio State should give us hope about what the future should look like once WE get the ball rolling here in Ann Arbor...
November 15th, 2009 at 12:08 PM ^
I assume "get the ball rolling" means "build a time machine and go back to alter history so that Phil Knight graduates from UM so that they have the booster money to hire any coach they want, thus ensuring RR never finds his way to Ann Arbor".
If so, then I totally agree with you.
November 15th, 2009 at 2:00 PM ^
Ding me if you want, but there is not a single one of you who would not do this if you had the power. Every fan wants the power to go back in time and slap some sense into people (I'd beat the lazy out of Troy Smith in December, 2006).
November 15th, 2009 at 3:00 PM ^
and change something about Michigan football it wouldn't be to do that. hiring RR wasn't a bad decision, lloyd sticking around a year longer than he really wanted to was. if i could go back i'd have lloyd retire after the '06 season like he wanted to and have someone new (maybe it's still RR who knows?) come in. it'd be year 3 and we'd be rolling instead of being on what is de facto year 1 with RR.
November 15th, 2009 at 4:08 PM ^
Fair enough. My assessment of RR isn't as positive as yours, but I understand your logic.
November 15th, 2009 at 3:26 PM ^
Funnily enough, I'd beat the lazy into Troy Smith in November, 2006.
November 15th, 2009 at 4:09 PM ^
Yeah? Hindsight being what it is, I'm not sure who would have gotten off worse had you guys won that: UM playing UF or OSU playing USC.
November 15th, 2009 at 4:30 PM ^
We win the game, Lloyd retires and things go a lot more smoothly.
November 15th, 2009 at 9:41 PM ^
Well, considering we actually show up for SEC teams, I'm guessing we would have been at least closer. And USC would have still beat up the Bucks. (Even though they weren't close, we've still played USC closer than anyone else from the Big Ten out there recently).
Though, even though they might not have been the two best teams, I still wanted the rematch with OSU on a neutral site.

A post about the BCS Bowl prospects of two programs for which I have the least respect (OSU, UofO), OR,
the fact that, in mid-November, a post about the Rose Bowl must be prefixed with "OT:" on the MGoBoard.
