I don't know that Gardner's deficiencies are "coachable."  He really handcuffs our offense.  We ran the ball fine, but he is turnover prone and seconds late on his throws.  Or Funchess drops them when they are on time.  So, based on that....I think the coaching was fine today.  We won.

NW with 1 timeout. Michigan ball 3rd and 2 near their own 25 yard line with about 3 minutes and change left in the game. Michigan basically has two downs to get 2 yards and run the clock out. Of course they go zone strech to the shortside of the field and lose yards and settle for a FG and give the ball back to NU.

Our CBs are good cover guys, but cannot cover fast WRs. They are slow.

DG could have been great in another system/ with other circumstances, but is a bad QB right now. He's both confused and injured.

Funchess is a decent WR, but when NFL execs take the time to see his game film, he'll be back at Michigan.

The OL play has improved during the season, even though they are at best average.

RBs are slow. No speed. Smith at least always falls forward ala Hart.

I play calling is solid, but Gardner is not playing well.

Home may be a good coach or a scrub. The problem is that there isn't much talent on this team, despite our high recruiting rankings. Maybe player development or just bad luck.

Step up? Yeah, I guess.  But still, we had 23 carries for 59 yards before the last two drives.  And NW last 4 games rushing yards against are 221, 234,121,  284 respectively

you lottle muggle bitches, but the issues today are not on the coaches. Sometimes players just don't perform. DG is one of those guys. I was a big DG fan and expected so much more. Insert any really good QB and we have 3 less losses this year. yeah yeah yeah, I know - coaches are responsible for players performance. But sometimes you just get stuck with what you have. SM has NOT stepped up and is another turnover machine.

I have seen/played/coached enough football to know when it's coaching vs player performance. There were so many times this game (year) with players wide open and DG sticks it into a defender instead. The opportunites were there, execution sucked. Coaches put you in a position to win. But players have to make the plays.

i get the whole love affair with the IDEA of Harbaugh to UM. And that will sort itself out. If he is interested, UM will already know. But you might not ever know if he declines. Dumping Hoke for a 'maybe' is stupid. Didn't we do that once already!?

The whole game they kept focusing the camera on Hoke. Am I the only one that was impressed by his sideline demeanor considering the landscape? Probably one of the most genuine and decent people around.

Yes, I know he needs to lose weight and put on a headset. Because that's what's really important in molding young men! I hope he wins out and gets a chance to lead a solid group of players returning next year.

So here's lookng forward to Maryland. Hope it's a great day with 110k fans and a Meeeeeeechigan victory!

PS - Watched ND flame out and am so glad we don't have an a-ahole like Kelly leading our team.

PS2 - Someone better start a new thread, someone referred to non-players as muggles again! Can we get him removed from the board!? (Would you prefer crybaby little internet pussy bitches!?)

PS3 -LMAO that UM will spend so much money on an AD (coach?) search when so many of the geniuses here at MGOBLOG have it all laid out already.

Congrats.
"The whole game they kept focusing the camera on Hoke. Am I the only one that was impressed by his sideline demeanor considering the landscape? Probably one of the most genuine and decent people around."

His demeanor is as it is bc most of the time he's wondering how he fleeced UM for $4 million a year for this crapshow.

There are plenty of decent football people on this board who have broken down the regression. It isn't hard to see; with your vast experience, it should be evident.

So Hoke is completely void of responsibility for player performance, right? He has nothing to do with the lack of player development, or the recruiting of these players? DG has gotten worse year-over-year - that's coaching. None of our running backs can find holes, which is either bad coaching or bad recruiting, aka bad coaching. Texas A&M is starting a freshman QB and 10 freshmen on defense and beat Auburn today. Ohio State has a very young OL and a redshirt freshman QB and is playing great. Good coaches know how to get the most out of their players, and show improvment over the course of the season. When is the last time we outcoached a team, or looked more prepared than the other team? Not once under Hoke. But of course, you played football and are a Griffindor or something, so you know best.

In terms of the in-game playcalling and coaching, I actually thought that the coaches did quite well. The defense played out of their minds (competition notwithstanding) and the playcalling was great for the offense. The receivers were getting separation, the O-line was opening good holes, Smith was running hard and picking up good yards, and special teams weren't as atrocious as usual. Coaching was, for one of the first times, a highlight of the game.

I really do believe that the majority, though not all, of the problems today are attributable to poor qb play. I've been a big DG defender and I truly believe he's still the best option, but the plays were there today, and he wasn't making them.

They won't hire someone worse.  They can't because even if Harbaugh says no, Miles would say yes and he is 5 steps up from Hoke.  He develops talent during a season even.  Not just over their careers.

Hoke has had four years to prove he can coach at this level and he has proven that he simply cannot.  He looks lost and confused on the sidleine, says stupid things in press conferences and his teams are never "UP" for games, they always seem flat.

The defensive front 7 look good against slow teams.  Against spoeed, this team will get crushed.  OSU should do very bad thing s to Michigan in a couple of weeks.  Heck, Maryland should next week as well.

Fire Hoke!
