Free Speech Repealed Until Monday (Again) Comment Count

Henri the Otter of Ennui is the new mascot of posting restrictions.

Post-Illinois restrictions back: 20 to comment, 500 to start new threads/diaries. Will be in effect until Monday morning.

Justification I probably don't need to provide: seriously dislike new registrants who sign up just to flame and would rather proactively cut them off than have to read it. Criticism is fine from people who have established themselves as part of the community.

I recommend we do this next week BEFORE the game even starts. No Cil, no discussion during the game, nothing. Lock that sht down, but instead of Henri, put up that youtube video of a wolverine downing a bear. Title the post FCK. SHT. UP.

I'd guarantee victory if we did that.

Good call, definitely. Could someone with the requisite points perhaps start up some open threads for hockey & b-ball tonight, though? Hopefully something good will happen, and some communal enjoyment thereof would make us all feel better.

Weird how expectations play out. Despite the desperate need to win one more game, I just felt like Wisconsin was the better team today. For, I guess, obvious reasons Illinois and Purdue felt very different.

Is anyone that pissed off? Wisconsin was the better team, I expected a loss, and there weren't any "get my pitchfork ma" calls. I wish we could have kept up our performance in the second half, but thus is life. We're showing improvement and I've got hope for next year.

While I also have hope for the future, this was the first game I started to question Rich Rod. I also expected a loss, but there were multiple times when they ran on first down for little or no gain, ran the exact same play for little or no gain, and then were forced into 3rd and long. If not for Forcier and the pass game, it would have been much uglier.

Well without Minor, Brown and the running game, the entire rest of the season would have been a lot uglier. In games like the Wisky game, you do what you do best and try to steal a win. How many times have you seen Minor or Brown run the ball on second down for 10+ yard this year? I can say with absolute certainty that there have been many times that has happened.

If you want to question RR, that is fine I guess. You are a fan and have the right to your opinion. I think in this case, however, your reason for said questioning makes little sense. This is only my e-pinion however.

Mgoblog doesn't need to be part of a "Michigan Schadenfreude" (if they even know what it means) thread on RCMB or any of the OSU boards; your actions should help a lot. Besides, I think I will have to take an MSM vacation this week and stick to mgoblog, umhoops, and a few other blogs. I want to be somewhere where people actually think there is a chance of an upset in the Big House next week, and I hope to discuss UM football without the negativity in the MSM.

Tater,

I have a stephen hopkins update from texas HS playoff game. Ididnt want to get it lost in this post but I only have 150 or so points. I dont mind the censorship but was hoping someone would put up a thread titled Stephen Hopkins update and I would fill in the numbers.

Help a Texan out here?

Wish I had gone to med school.

Right about now, some Intra-venous valium would help enormously.

Beer doesn't help. The bottles are projectiles, and the animals in the house wouldn't be safe.

I would be in favor of the restriction all week leading to/after this weeks game. The board is much better tonight than last saturday night.

This is going to be a HUGE week for recruiting and the game could have much larger implications than just a win/loss this year.

My opinion is that this is the same defense that couldn't stop anyone above MAC level all year. With the limitations of the personnel in the back 7, there's only so much any scheme can do. Cover up a weakness in one area, and it opens up a gaping wound somewhere else. As Brian has said with respect to football, 2010 can't come fast enough.

On the positive side, can anyone remember the last time Michigan basketball ever had a 50 point lead in a game?

I completely agree with the moratorium. What's really begun pissing me off, though, is the general decline in the quality of the discussion on the site.

The posting by "trusted" sources is still great. But, even the diaries have devolved into one of two memes: 1) (All caps used deliberately) "RICH ROD AND THE COACHES SUCK YO THEY NEED TO BE FIRED THIS ISN'T MICHIGAN FOOTBALL!!!!!!!" or 2) We can't fire the coaches, that would be suicidal! What did we expect without a real defense?"

The board posts are even worse. Most are not even worth reading. They're almost as useless as the debates on the floor of the UN General Assembly.

I would like to see a higher point total required. Its been suggested before that there be a review panel for new boards and diaries until a user crosses a (high) points threshold. Maybe that would return the discussions to topics more thought provoking.

Or, it could stifle input from users with new accounts, lead to groupthink from whoever is in charge of approving submissions, and cause significant delays in our abilities to discuss events as they happen.

I've seen this kind of idea proposed and even implemented on other sites, and it usually doesn't end well. It's a lot easier to do your own mental filtering. Don't like the topic? Your browser has a back button. Think the post is worthless? Just keep scrolling by. Suggesting some kind of system revolving around points (which, as we all know, are worthless) is an idea that won't end well.
