Free Speech Repealed Until Monday (Again) Comment Count

Henri the Otter of Ennui is the new mascot of posting restrictions.

Post-Illinois restrictions back: 20 to comment, 500 to start new threads/diaries. Will be in effect until Monday morning.

Justification I probably don't need to provide: seriously dislike new registrants who sign up just to flame and would rather proactively cut them off than have to read it. Criticism is fine from people who have established themselves as part of the community.

On the other hand, it might prevent a "BuckNuts" kind of melt down after every loss. "Mental filtering" would be great, if it weren't for the fact that after a loss, folks get on this site, flame everyone but the guy who runs the hot dog stands, and create 40 new board posts that all scream one of two things: "Fire Rod", and "Have Patience".

I just watched the Stanford/USC game (in hopes of getting over the U of M game faster) and until I saw this game I was a very strong supporter of Rich Rod. Then I saw what Harbaugh was doing to USC with Stanford (STANFORD!!!!) players. I think that more than anything else is really making me question everything. I still like the Rich Rod offense but I feel there are too many bone head decisions --> QB run on 3rd and goal (when the RB got 2-3 yards every rush), starting Kovacs after the last 2 weeks, etc. I know Harbaugh dissed Michigan but I think with Martin moving on there is now a chance for Harbaugh to get the job, unless he goes to the NFL.

Umm, Harbaugh is at STANFORD. They were 1-11 the year before he got there. Just making a bowl is a very good year for them. And that 4-8 record includes a win over their bitter rival and one of the biggest upsets in college football history. There's no comparison. Having said that, it'll never happen. RichRod deserves more time; we're not at the point where we need to be talking about who the next coach should be. And even if we were, Harbaugh burned his bridges with that SF Chronicle interview and is unlikely to be welcomed back.

"starting Kovacs after the last 2 weeks, etc." Is there another safety, somewhere on the roster that you're certain is going to play better? Also, frankly, Mike Williams performance was not exactly stellar, either.

Win, or lose, it's still my school. I'm an alum. Michigan is tough for everyone- it's tough for Rich Rod right now, but he will either succeed, or not. It's up to him, so long as we give him enough time. Change takes time.

When did Michigan fans care about the Motor City Bowl? The additional practice time would be awesome yes but why are we judging RichRod on whether or not he goes 6-6? Perhaps it's that difficult for us to comprehend that our team simply isn't as talented as we're used to being. We need to give RR time to get the ship straight - and I don't think anyone would argue that the team on the field looks drastically better than it did last year - even if it still isn't good enough to win. I just care about how he performs in the rivalry games and if the team can compete with top tier competition. We have a win against Notre Dame which is mildly satisfying. Now we just need to hope for a 1969-level upset next weekend and get better next year (esp on Defense) so we can move one step further. Save the negativity for when we're actually expected to do well and field a team that's competitive on both sides of the ball. Hopefully that's next year.

is irrelevant. If there are talented Juniors and Seniors returning who know what it takes to win the the Big 10, the extra practice and game experience are not needed. Teams trying to find an identity or, god forbid, rebuilding are different. This team is young and needs the repetition, coaching, extra practice time, and game experience the bowl bid provides. Recruiting needs the additional exposure and good press of playing in December/January. This team needs the work. With the NCAA reductions in scholarships for football, parity is what's discussed. Parity also means former powerhouse programs take longer to reload when they hit a rough spot. ND is entering their second decade of mediocre, the extra time provided by a bowl bid allows borderline players to elevate and refines stars for the following year. Let's let continue to suck and change this. I'm happy to hear you found the the win versus ND mildly satisfying. Personally, I've found UM not winning one against MSU, Purdue or Illinois sucked the joy out of the domer W. Winning Saturday changes everything, but I'm tempering my expecatations given the defense has allowed big plays to every team but DSU this year.

Are about the only things I like about um football at this pernt. Thank you Brian for the one joy I have in connection to this gut wrenching season, further proof if I ever needed any, that providence is neither benevolent nor a Michigan fan. As I said before (and, it should be noted negbanged for my prescience), no motor city bowl for us, just bitter bitter disappointment. I hope rr gets one more year despite this debaucle caused by carr, ridiculously high attrition and rr himself. Here's hoping rr takes responsibility for his part in this mess instead of making excuses.

We're there, until the 2nd half. That means coaching or conditioning. I'd hate to question conditioning or Barwis would track me down and make me run steps. These losses are knife-twisting stab in the heart gut-wrenching kicks in the soul dong. We're there in these damn games. I watched this one again with my dad, and pointed out the obvious turning point in this game (the B.S. roughing the kicker call). He cried a little. These kids are better than their record. Ugghhhh. I drove 4 hours to watch the game with my dad, my little girl made sick in the car (McDonald's pancakes in case you were wondering), and after all that, the defense smelled worse than recycled A/C returned pancakes. Tate can't be a 4 year starter. Period. It's not like he's 6'5" with a cannon and just making bad choices. He'll never get us where we want us.

Forcier isn't the issue. He played well early in the season, hit a rough patch in the middle, and now he's playing pretty well again. You can't expect much more from a true freshman. The offense is producing. Perhaps not as well as we would like, but we scored 36 points last week and 24 this week. Thirty-six points should be enough to win; twenty-four should be enough to at least have a chance at the end. This team's weakness is its defensive back seven. And it's not conditioning. It's mental. These guys have the strength and speed to contend in the second half. But opposing coaches figure out our weaknesses, and frankly, we don't adjust very well. I don't know if that's on the coaches or the players.

He is one of the bright spots this year. He did miss two long touchdown passes though. One to Stonum and one to Matthews which could have made a big difference at the time. Also, our offense only scored 17 points and was shut down in the red zone twice. The offense did not play very well, especially in the second half. We had to go for it on 4th down to keep one drive going. Vincent Smith looked decent but our offensive line is struggling. And finally special teams is a disaster. Missed field goal and roughing the kicker kept our team from being up at halftime. I love Michigan, and think Rodriguez will make it work eventually. I think we are giving too much blame for our problems to the defense though. While they are bad, our offense and special teams play have made costly mistakes over the last four games.

Totally agree that Tate's not the issue this year, but the defense, and that it's not conditioning, but lack of coaching adjustments. I'm also looking past the obvious defensive disaster we put out there each week. I'm just trying to picture Tate running a nationally competetive offense, and I can't see it. Now, if we had the '97 defense with this offense maybe that would be different. I'd love for him to prove me wrong, though.

Enhance your calm, mgoblog people. Projections were for this team to go 6-6 or 5-7. Try not to let the 4-0 start fool you. It was exciting and fooled me a bit, too. :) Should UM have beat Purdue? Probably. Should they have beat ND? Probably not. UW is a better team - this year. I'm assuming that the defense will be better next year. However, nothing matters if the NCAA violations come through. Then we'll be shopping for a new coach. Yikes.

No problem with the ban. But please note that seeing a big problem with the program does not mean that one is "flaming" or an "idiot" or "douchebag", etc. It's just a disagreement. If the goal is to have a good exchange of ideas, maybe the groupthink isn't so great. You can have 28343767 points, but that won't make the team any better. We all love the program. not all have to agree that RR is the answer.
