Still Love RR
It looks bad right now but I still love RR. Talk of firing him and bringing in Kelly or Harbaugh or Miles is totally ridiculous. I mean, even though they are not winning right now the improvement over last year is quite obvious. RR will win a NT here some day therefore I am staying on the bandwagon. Go Blue!

I am completely behind him. I believe he is a better coach than either Harbaugh or Miles. This is more of a tear-down than any of us imagined.

He just needs some defensive players in key possitions with size and quickness. Our d-backs are undersized and get beat way too often. They play them so far off the ball that our opponents can gain almost 10 yards a play. Next season I want to see Justin Turner and the likes playing out there.

But the AD may be the tipping point. Quite a few active ADs in the country are part of the Bo Family Tree, which could spell trouble for RR. I hope things won't come to that, and it's obviously just speculation.
RR needs time to turn this around. Impatience was bred from the Michigan Elite of the last 40 years. It was a great run, but it's sputtered, so we need to take a step back, relax, and enjoy basketball....

If what you say is true then Bo's Boys around the league may not adhere to their mentor's ideals about RR, especially now that he's apassed on. Regardless, this was speculation to begin with (mostly from a conversation me a few friends had the other day). I severely doubt that it will even come to fruition.

I don't know if I can find a link, but people who were connected at the time can confirm that Bo greatly admired RR's offense at WVU and - privately - wished to see us move in that direction. Bo would never criticize Carr or his system in public, but was growing concerned about our gradually diminishing rushing output over his tenure.

1. I have it on good authority that Bo indeed was an admirer of RR's when he was at WVa. I highly doubt that you have any information that contradicts this.
2. I think it may be in your best interests to take a little break from following Michigan football here. Your posts have taken on a very bitter, sarcastic tone. Do you still enjoy posting here?

Tate, Roundtree, and Matthews connected well throughout the first half, while Vincent Smith showed some flashes of Mike Hart. The second half was swallowed up by Wisconsin's painstakingly long drives (the first taking over five minutes of the third quarter). It'll all put itself together sooner or later.

that we, as Michigan, are now resorting to "moral victories." Save those for MSU, we want REAL victories. Fact of the matter is that we couldn't score from 1 yard out, couldn't turn an INT in Wisconsin territory into a TD or else we'd have had this game in hand before half time. The D showed up the first half, the O floudered two scoring opportunities. And for God's sake, WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OUR FIELD GOAL KICKING?!

We need posts like these to pop up... not the ones that ESPN jsut happens to catch where some idiot troll goes off about how he spent 5069354830 years of his life watching Michigan football, decided to make an MGOBLOG account right after a rough game, and post up some nonsense about wanting RR,Greg Robinson, and all the defensive coaches all fired, and then complaining about how recruiting isn't up to MICHIGAN standards and how we're not getting that 5 star talent that we need to Michigan.
That being said. HOLD THE ROPE. Have hope, patience, and all will be well soon.

I can still get shit on everyday as a Michigan fan WHILE riding the bandwagon. I love Michigan so much that it ticks my wife off that I cancel dinner plans to watch Michigan athletics. That being said, I live in hell (Columbus, OH) and take shit everyday from OSU fans. I take it in stride, but if I want to vent some pent up frustration to someone who loves the boys in blue as much as me then, damn it, I should be able to. I don't say fire Rich Rod or anything like that, I just want some freakin' progress that isn't a "moral victory." The team has completely lost focus and gets mentally beat down so easily. They are less than a shadow of our traditional teams who fought so hard. We lost to teams with INFERIOR talent. I don't care what some people are saying about our talent (I know we lost alot) - our talent is still better than Illinois, Wisconsin, even Iowa. We just need to play to our potential, and that's my major complaint. This team is a bunch of mental babies - giving up easily. Carr may have been pissed or stressed on the sidelines, but I never EVER saw him make the whiny, self-loathing faces that I saw RR make today. I'm behind RR 100%, but he needs to get these boys tougher.

we lost to teams with inferior talent! are you serious? maybe i just look at things differently. while we do have talent in areas we do not "field" the best team on the field. it takes all 11 on the field at the time to win. our secondary has been ugly at times, our offensive line has been ugly at times. so while our ranting and raving among those of us who love BLUE is accepted please keeps things in better perspective. thanks for listening to my rant!

I too am still all in! Being an "M" fan is not a fad, but more of a way of life. WIN, LOSE, GOOD, or BAD, I will still support this team. THOSE WHO STAY, WILL BE CHAMPIONS! Remember this!
Could be worse, we could be ND. A team with incredible talent that can't get the job done. Seriously!

We have 4 wins over D1-a teams. 2 of them are bad MAC teams and another is indiana.
On top of that, what about the fact that this team is showing absolutely zero improvement throughout the course of the season?

completion percentage and unforced turnover margin
punt returns
kick returns
net punting yardage
field goals scored
field goal percentage scored
wins

only one of those categories is relevant: wins.
we have 2 more wins than last year and 1 of those is because we have played Del St. (a mediocre FCS team) instead of Utah (12-0 last yr). So basically we have 1 more win overall and 1 less win in the big ten.
To call that obvious or significant improvement is a huge stretch. Take a step back and look at the team realistically.

"Look at the team realistically?" You're allowed to throw out wins to try and defend your stance, when Sean already proved you wrong on the "absolutely zero improvement" claim?
We've got two more wins than last year (even if one of them was against Baby Seal U), we've had close losses against good teams like Iowa, and in the course of one season our offense has gone from Nick Sheridan as our best option to a team with a promising albeit young group of quarterbacks and receivers that has pulled a few miracle comebacks off already.
That seems like improvement over last year's trainwreck of a season to me.

So, realistically, if there are no obvious or significant improvements, then you think last year's team could hang more than 63 on Delaware State? Interesting. Also, all of our "cupcake" MAC teams last year we either lost to or beat 16-6. But yeah, I am sure there is no obvious improvements.

This is the really worrisome issue. The defense played reasonably well against Iowa and MSU. Then when facing lesser Big 10 offenses like Purdue and Illinois, everything falls apart and they allow deluges of points.
I don't see growth and improvement over the course of the season on the defensive side of the ball and that points to poor position coaching. After this season I hope to see Hopson move on and Gibson move to coach a different position (special teams perhaps?). Hopefully RR can bring in top notch position coaches in their place.

It's much easier for an easily confused secondary to play against power run teams with mediocre running attacks(Iowa and MSU) than spread teams, even bad spread teams like Purdue and Illinois. Thus, regression.

There is no regression. The defense has improved this year and played a great first half, aside from the first drive and the roughing penalty. That was kind of a fluke since we had two guys too close to getting the block.

I think it can come together, but I'm worried about the coach and the team folding under the pressure of turning the program around. If this team does not turn things around significantly next year, I think RRod will be fired, no matter what the administration is saying now.

I think you're right, anything less than a 7-5 season next year will probably get him fired. That's sad. He really needs a couple more years to get it going, but if he can't get a working defense then we may be fighting for 6-6 next season. 3 bad seasons in a row = unemployment line. But, again, I hope that's not the case.

Unless there are huge numbers of injuries, a Michigan team should be able to win seven games in a normal rebuilding year. Rodriguez will have had 2.5 recruiting classes, plus inherited talent, to improve the team and install his system. It shouldn't necessarily be fully running, but it should, at least, be able to field a team that meets the lowest level of expectation Michigan fans had for Lloyd Carr.

I'd like to know why you're pissed off. I don't think he handles the media well and I think he's a little too emotional when the team is down. Other than that, I like the way he's done a lot of things. I really like that he's been consistent with the 4th down play calls and the discipline.
