Is really getting ugly. I am hoping it does not end up affecting basketball too. I hope the end is in sight.

"Jumping the Shark" doesn't mean "declining."  The term describes the use of a gimmick or absurdly-conceived novelty designed to attract viewers in order to combat decreasing popularity. It really doesn't apply here.

Even the original usage makes no sense.  Happy Days was doing just fine when that episode aired.

Hmm.  Wikipedia says otherwise:

Jumping the shark is an idiom created by Jon Hein that was used to describe the moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality . . . The usage of "jump the shark" has subsequently broadened beyond television, indicating the moment when a brand, design, franchise or creative effort's evolution declines.

"In an attempt to keep viewers interest."  That's the key point.  It's a gimmick designed to keep people watching.  The notion that one post from one user on this blog is evidence for the blog jumping the shark makes no sense.  If you disagree, you either don't understand the term or are simply being deliberately stupid.

So I take it you're downvoting all my posts here?  Why are you doing that?  I didn't downvote yours.

It doesn't really matter - I have enough points - but the point of downvoting someone is supposed to be about them posting something that violates community standards or is otherwise beyond the pale, and not just because you have a slightly different opinion on a random topic.

"Jumping the shark" meant the gimmick that marked the beginning of the end/decline. Dave and Maddy "doing it" (actually, any two TV characters finally breaking the sexual tension) introducing a new baby or child to the TV family, "tonight on a very special...", etc.

in 1653.

The actual speech works quite well for Brandon:

It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonoured by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter'd your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?

Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil'd this sacred place, and turn'd the Lord's temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress'd, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. In the name of God, go!

Brandon is gone.  Ross was the last real obstacle and he conceded.

The point has been made - you don't need an endless series of "events" to make this happen.  It's happening, but it will just take a little while for the institutional machinery to finish it up.

This is beginning to be an unnecessary side show. Everyone gets it, we don't like him. Firing him now makes no difference, anyone they want to hire probably won't be available until after football season. No good AD would leave the school he is at in the middle of football season. Football season is revenue season, a good AD won't leave you hanging.
