guess what Jatashun "Big Tex" Beachum is being recruited as...

Submitted by k06em01 on

a short yardage QUARTERBACK and defensive tackle (he is primarily a quarterback on his high school squad, a 6-2, 275lb one). fyi - he's committed to arkansas as a running back. he runs a 4.6 SECOND 40. think hefty-lefty, with speed.

yes,

he would be the first in history.

sounds like we've got him in the bag too.

I've always wondered about taking a defensive lineman and teaching him a few short yard, offensive plays. Can you imagine Graham as a running back on 4th and inches?

Probably not a smart idea with injuries and all. This is why I'm not a football coach. But I still think it has the potential to be effective.

With a career total of 4 completions, 28 passing yards, and 2 rushing yards in a grand total of 4 seasons. Watch out for him! And, no he is not better than I give him credit for. He sucked at Kentucky and he never broke the two-deep in the NFL, I think I'm giving him the credit he deserves. He is way more famous for being a fat-ass left handed quarterback than for anything he ever did on the field. People think he is good because they recognize the name, not because he has any real talent.

Proportionally, being 6'2 and 275 lbs seems odd to me (I'd think one would be taller if you were 275), but it's probably in the normal range for football players. But, if someone this size can be a RB, why hasn't it been done before - that does seem odd.

i just watched this guy's tape....WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. I can not believe my eyes. How is this guy not a five star recruit!? I don't know if i have ever been so impressed with a tape. Anyone with access to rivals, get your $h!t together and watch this guy. http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/recruiting-football/Jatashun-Beachum-High…

first of all, he's not only a 6-2 275lb quarterback, he is a 6-2 275lb zone-read-option quarterback. to say the VERY least, his reported 4.6 40 is LEGITIMATE. He looks like friggin Jerome Bettis running the ball. And he is a VERY slim 275lbs. I can't believe that we don't want him as a running back. second of all, he has a really good arm. strength and accuracy. i'm not kidding.

AND HE IS LEFT-HANDED, LOLOLOL

You need to take your Ritalin.

He's not a 5-star recruit because he doesn't have a position.

How do you know his 4.6 40 is LEGITIMATE? Did you time him? Is he just as fast as Mario Manningham? Would they tie in a race?

Also, how can you tell that he's accurate from a highlight tape? There are a lot of things you can tell from a highlight tape, but accuracy isn't one of them. The highlights could be the only 5 or 10 passes he completes the entire season. He's completed less than 50% of his passes in both his sophomore and junior seasons, and in that time, he's thrown 6 TDs and 11 INTs.

But you're right about one thing - he is left-handed. So you've got that going for you.

This reminds me of Billy Madison...

k06em01: That Jatashun Beachum is one fast mo' fo, I know from experience dude. If you know what I mean.
Magnus: No, you don't.
k06em01: Well, not me personally but a guy I know (Mario Manninghan). Him and Big Tex got in a foot race. Wooo-eee!
Magnus: No, they didn't.
k06em01: No, no, no they didn't. But you could imagine what it'd be like if they did, right...? Big Tex would whoop his a**!

i cant believe that ive gotten so many negs here. first, the clones thing, i thought it would be funny, it was late, and i thought that i deleted it before anyone even saw it, sheesh. my bad.

second, i cant believe that you guys aren't as impressed with this guy's film as i am. maybe i just have a soft spot for 275lb guys with great speed and agility. i realize that i was overreacting a bit, but i truly believe that he should at least be a 4-star, and i am incredibly excited about the possibility of him being a short-yardage quarterback.

the point i was trying to make is that i dont feel rich rod is just blowing smoke up this guy's butt saying that, i really think he has a chance. i apologize for not meeting the boards standards with that post.

You would think that he would be 4-star since he has so many impressive offers from out-of-state schools like Florida, Florida State, and Nebraska.

He seems like he would be a perfect fit at Wisconsin as a big lumbering Ron Dayne type tailback. I wonder what kind of potential he has at DE or DT, which is where we could really use him.

I see your general point, but 275 is still a big fellow for an RB - even with your comps.

Jacobs is taller and lighter
Bettis is shorter and lighter
McClain is shorter and lighter

But, in general, it may not be as rare as I originally thought. Thanks for the feedback.

Jared Lorenzen sucked at Kentucky? The following is taken from his NFL.com profile:

- Four-year starter at Kentucky, where he set school records for total yards (10,637), passing yardage (10,354), completions (862) and touchdowns passes (78).

- As a senior in 2003, he completed 191 of 336 passes (56.8 percent) for 2,221 yards, 16 touchdowns and 8 interceptions and was 2nd-team All-SEC (Eli Manning was 1st team).

- Holds 6 NCAA records, 4 SEC records and 11 school records.

- Two-year semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.

Those aren't the numbers of someone who sucked. Are you jealous for some reason? Are you a Kentucky fan who's upset he didn't win a national championship? Are you just trying to rationalize some ill-gotten notion you had about his talents? He set records in college and latched on to a pro team for several years. That's not necessarily indicative of "sucking."

Would you expect a four-year starter in any school to not set records? It's damn near a given that a four-year starter will set records, especially at a school such as Kentucky, which as we know has produced outstanding QB talent... never (lol, Tim Couch).

And wow, a 57% completion rate as a senior. Hold on boys, he is coming for the Heisman. A freshman should be throwing 57%, not a four-year starter. 2nd team All-SEC where the only decent starting QB at the time was Eli Manning (lol, Jason Campbell). That's the equivalent of saying that Mike Williams is 2nd team All-Michigan safety behind Kovacs. What an honor.

What are the NCAA records he holds? Turnovers during a career? Most interceptions in a game? I don't know, but find out what they are for me, I would honestly be interested to know, but I'm willing to bet they are not important.

Seriously, you cannot make the argument that Lorenzen didnt suck. He went undrafted for a reason, he was a third-stringer for a reason, he threw four career passes in the NFL for a reason, he was on an AFL practice squad for a reason. Lorenzen sucked at Kentucky, he sucked in the pros, but I'm sure he is good at whatever he is doing now.

You said it yourself, "he latched on to a pro team for several years". LOL, yes, he certainly did latch didnt he. And why the hell would I be a Kentucky fan, does Kentucky even have fans? Your argument that he was a good QB at any point is his career is laughable at best, and your "stats" just go to prove it.

Thanks for playing Magnus, now go fuck yourself.

I really don't care enough to look up his NCAA records and such. I guess your requirements for being a decent college QB are much higher than most. I would say that a guy who sets records and plays in the NFL was probably not a sucky college QB.

But whatever. It really doesn't matter to me.
