Meta Hello: Alex Cook joining the MGoBlog Hoops Staff

Submitted by JeepinBen on

According to himself (@alexcook616) on twitter, Alex Cook (no relation to this Brian Cook) is joining the staff this fall as a basketball writer. If you've followed him on Twitter, Alex has lots of good content, including very interesting "player comparison" charts as to what to expect from the new crop of freshmen.

Give him a follow and look forward to even more (He's not replacing Ace, but joining Ace's coverage) quality Hoops coverage going forward.

Oh... so many puns for the podcast.

Cook's Corner

Look what's Cooking

Not to mention naming HTTV to "The Cook Book"

Just to warn you though, Brian.  Too many Cooks spoil the broth.

Contrary to what many believe (including 80% of the people who write Christmas cards, it seems) plural nouns do not take apostrophes unless you are referring to them possessing something.  Here are the answers to your questions:

I saw two Smiths.

The Smiths' beers.

(The -es addition is only for names that already end in -es or -ez, as in the Joneses or the Rodriguezes.)

Hire Brian Gillis from OTE for additional football coverage so the name confusion can be complete!

New MGoUsernames:

Alex Cook - Cook (NTC)

Brian Gillis - Brian (NTB)

Brian Cook - Brian (YTB) Cook (YTC)

EDIT: Alex Cook's brother being Brian Cook we through him in for good measure

Brian Cook - Brian (NTB) Cook (NTC)

Nice add. Glad to hear it.

On another note - Alex, there's still time to change your semi-optimistic outlook for Branden Dawson this year. He's definitely going to struggle to meet even the more realistic expectations out there (read: those that don't have him being 1st Team All-American but still have him All B1G).

I already wrote out my bit on why I'm taking Dawson over Dekker for the first-team. He shot 60% last year, so it's not like an increase in responsibility will make him incredibly inefficient (in all probability). He's gonna rebound and defend with the best of 'em regardless.

To make matters more confusing, I'm his younger brother Brian. You'll be hard-pressed to find a guy that knows his way around hoops statistics and writing better than Alex. Congrats again!

Very excited to be collaborating with Alex on hoops stuff. Among other writing ventures, he contributed to my old blog, the long-defunct The Wolverine Blog, and we've kept in touch ever since. Can't wait to see more quality basketball coverage on the site; you all should see the increase in volume and quality on that front pretty soon—already putting our heads together about how best to approach the season preview and in-season content.

Congrats, Alex. This is gonna be fun.

You say there's no relation, but come one man, we can all see through that.  Alex and Brian have the same last name.  Nepotisim at its finest.  I'm pretty sure this is somehow related to Lloyd Carr pulling the strings in the athletic department.  Aliens.

And thanks to Ben for putting this up while I got an account up and going. MGoBrian and I are unrelated (we think), but - as he says above - my younger brother is named Brian. Which is a little disorienting. Regardless, I'm here. #GoBlue, #WeOn, #FireBrandon and all that.

Oh and LSA? I'd like about a 1,000,000 of your finest MGoPoints (or even just enough so that I can post in the diaries).
