Think Alex Welch (from Cinci) would want to decommit if the new ND coach is Brian Kelly? We should pray for Gruden or Stoops to take the job - Kelly would be a killer with the talent in South Bend.

Didn't Kelly state, in the past, that he ultimately wants to coach in the NFL? Wasn't this one of the negatives (maybe the only one) about him? Not saying that he would definitely get that chance, or that a job at ND wouldn't be more desirable to him than an NFL job, but I do remember hearing this back during our coaching search. Has this meme gone away with time?

In light of the Obama controversy earlier this year, Kelly worked on Gary Hart's campaign in '84 and is a pretty liberal guy. Also there was weird rumblings when Michigan was looking for a coach and he never got considered there was supposedly reasons why, same reasons why MSU never seriously looked him. What about Harbaugh?? He is winning with high academic standards, big name big conference. I know they failed bringing in a Stanford coach before but he was black.

Sorry I am not as politically correct as you but that was seriously considered a reason why Ty was never accepted by some ND boosters. I don't know why this is taboo for me to say, whatever won't take a non-football dig at ND again I apologize.

If you honestly can't see that "cock sucker" is a blatantly offensive term directed at homosexuals then you (as I implied initially) are guilty of the same ignorance you are accusing others of. Frankly, I think your avatar is hilarious, I have no problem with it, but recognize that it is blatantly offensive, own up to it, and then don't get on your "high horse" when someone says something that could be construed as offensive.

it as homophobic. I don't know the etymology of the phrase. Vulgar, absolutely, but it's not a term dedicated solely to denigrating homosexuals. To say it's homophobic implies that only men, to put it bluntly, suck cock. I look at it more like the term, "mother fucker." If I use that, am I denigrating mothers or just being vulgar? And yes, I really can't believe I'm having this conversation.

As a gay person myself, I will take this opportunity to accept your apology on behalf of the whole gay community. Yes, I have that authority. P.S.-I don't take offense to your icon...I actually think it is funny as hell. But, for those who are teenagers on this blog, they can get the wrong message from the icon. Just saying. They're impressionable, them young lads. That's why gay people try to recruit them when they are young (snark).

Some of us sit (or stand) in the Big House screaming our fool heads off, cheering the team, cursing like sailors when things don't go well, etc. Not trying to be a jerk here... just saying that with 60K+ males (I'm estimating, of course) in the stadium on any given Saturday, the chance they are all straight is pretty close to zero. As for DCBlue's avatar... I, like NickUmich, found it to be pretty funny. I guess I overlooked any offensive implications in the interest of slamming OSU with a clever phrase I'd not seen before. "Buck the Fuckeyes" has grown a bit old and tired. FWIW. GO BLUE!

obviously homophobic or misogynist. The implication is that cocksucker is a pejorative, due to it being associated with Ohio State. So there either must be something wrong or funny about sucking cocks, whether it be done by a man or woman. Not that I care. What is funny is that wes got negged for his initial "racist" remark but his defenses of it all have positive points while DCBlue has more negative ones. Clear evidence that some users neg simply because they see a post has already been negged, because they obviously aren't reading the conversation.

...but that was for a variety of reasons. He made an unsubstantiated claim that both UM and MSU passed over Kelly because he is a liberal(not because he was a MAC coach). He then went on to suggest that a former Michigan QB, Jim Harbaugh, would be a good fit with the ND establishment. And he concluded by claiming that the ND establishment is racist, without anything concrete to back it up. In short, it was not a good post for a variety of reasons and deserved to be negged, even though it wasn't necessarily racist.

yeah, you're right, at this point it wouldn't occur to me!! I'm not trying to trash anybody or spew venom, or even stand up for gay rights. Just pointing out that we shouldn't get all up in arms at every little comment when we ourselves do/say offensive shit all the time. And you know as well as I do that if you call one of your buddies (or in this case, an OSU fan) you are implying he's gay, not a woman, so don't cop out like that!

as a shot on Willingham's race. If you meant it as a shot against the ND establishment's racism, I interpreted it wrong. As to my avatar, I think there is a difference between poking fun at a fan base and race. But maybe I should consider changing it.

As a brother-in-law of a former player of Kelly's at GVSU, I can tell you that he and some of his teammates are big fans of Kelly and follow his coaching career closely. This idea that a Division One coach can't be arrogant or rub people the wrong way makes no sense to me. Who gives a shit if some people think he is an asshole, really? FWIW.

You could be a writer for Bleacher Report, seriously. All you have to do is join their website, and BAM!, you're a journalist. Also, the OP on the Scout board doesn't strike me as the most reliable source either, FWIW. Also also, I don't read Scout, I just clicked the link, and looked at the OP's points/date/whatev.

I really hope this isn't true if for no other reason than if it is, the prevailing theme of this board until the search comes to a close will be everyone on here sucking Kelly's dick and quaking in trepidation about us never beating ND again, ever. That's already starting to happen and Weis isn't even fired.... if he is fired, I may go on an MGoSabbatical.

The knock on Brian Kelly - at both MSU and the UofM - is that he's more or less of an a-hole, and he said something somewhat racist while at central. It seemed sort of harsh to me to not consider him on that basis, but I've never met him, and we all hate Bobby Petrino. Still though, I PRAY that notre dame goes with gruden instead. If Kelly was coaching at ND right now, with Clausen, those recievers, that oline, and that back, I would probably pick them to win the national championship over Florida/Texas/Alabama.
