Stop the protests

Submitted by cadillacjack333 on

Down vote me however you want.  I am angry.  You are angry.  Nothing we can do today that has not been done or said.  Support the players because they need it.  When you see them on campus tell them it is going to get better.  They need to know that good or bad they are us and we are all one Michigan.  They have the talent to be great.  They just need the right people in place to bring it out.

If two days after OSU they have not fired the clown show then stop buying tickets. Vote for new regents.  March on Schlissel's (sp?) home and demand better coaches and a new AD.

However, just know that Brandon's money grab on football pays for almost the entire athletic budget and any cuts to football tickets and concession prices will come down on (insert marginal athletic program here).

The administration knows.  They are not stupid.  They will deal with it in 6 games.  We have too much invested for them not to deal with it.

Next CC should be Jim Tressel - kidding.

Me? I've semi-checked out. The eyes have glazed over, the passion is but an ember, and the will to rage over stupid plays and losses has been seriously compromised. Michigan Malaise is what I have.

At the end of the day, I don't think people are really all that upset about an increase in the price of tickets and concessions. We live in a world where over time, prices for things go up. People are used to this by now.

I think what pisses people off is that a) it was handled very poorly (felt kind of cable company-ish) and b) the increased prices feel like they are going towards funding the Dave Brandon circus experience instead of field hockey equipment or something. When people set up a strawman and make the entire anti-Brandon argument about some prices going up, they're entirely missing the point. People feel like they are paying more for less, and getting a bunch of other crap they don't want shoved down their throat because we have a guy in charge with a "well, what are you gonna do about it" attitude.

Uh, please don't be the guy that talks to players while they're trying to go about their lives. I've got classes with a few of them - for the most part they're just normal people, and I don't think they're interested in the OP or anyone else they don't know walking up and trying to comfort them. That just sounds weird and awkward.

Honestly, if they aren't professional athletes (and even then for me) and they don't know you, just leave them be. It might be a little different if it was "congrats on the win this weekend," but they don't need you to be their psychiatrist.

I could not agree more.  I'm sure the AD and coaches would love to see the stands full, but the ones it really hurts are the players.  Anyone who has played any type of sport at any level knows that having an enthusiastic crowd provides an emotional lift.

We should be filling the stadium early on Saturday night and cheering on the players.  If we want to have any type chant against the administration go for it, but get behind the players.  Little of this is their fault.

Fuck you apologist. The administration doesn't give a shit about fans and I'm seriously wondering if you're a plant from the ad. Unenthusiastic fans like you disgust me, piece of shit. Keep supporting Brandon and Hoke to destroy Michigan football. Weak minded whores like you disgust me.

Support the players! No matter what!! It's not weak minded to support Michigan and try and be positive. It's weak minded to keep spreading this wildfire thru:

negative blogs,
twitter rants & bashing players via twitter,
bogus articles
etc...

Let the University of Michigan Decision Makers handle business. After all, they are more than capable to make educated decisions; with information that "fans" may not have access to.

The past, present and future record and coaching performance will continue to speak for themselves.

The negativity coming out from this side of the M fan base is embarrassing and disgusting.

If you're an alum/fan, of course your upset with record and lack of player development. Ticket pricing is always an issue when teams underperform, for every team.

The negative fan base is fueling the media frenzy and having a HUGE impact on Michigan's current and targeted future (recruit) players!

That's the truth. So keep bitching and protesting from your fucking couches and hold our program back even longer from the very thing you keep complaining about not happening today. Winning!

Stay together! Support the team and let smart people who are in a position to make informed decisions do their jobs how/when they deem necessary. Anything else sets us back.

Silent obedience is a vote for the status quo and an implicit endorsement of Brandon/Hoke.

Not everything is so black and white to me that I can't reconcile poo-poo'ing the AD (chants/kick-offs/protests) while still cheering my heart out for Gardner and Co.

Apparently, You just like laying down and spreading them for this department that doesn't give two fucks about you??

What incredible timing this WOW FACTOR is turning out to be for DB--I can't wait to see what concertz, laserz, and RAWK he has in store for us!!

The asswipe should be afraid of what could go down Saturday night--VERY afraid.

This should and best be the most public of his MANY humiliations...

If I could have made it to the "fire Brandon" protest I would have. Fans need to keep doing something until there is a change at the top. Firing Hoke will not fix the problem. DB is the problem. If DB is allowed to pick the next head coach the program may never recover. The football program is already in a very precarious position. Another shitty hire by DB could set the program back 20 years. I agree that the OP is probably a plant from the athletic department. I support the players but if DB and Hoke are not both fired by the end of the season I will not renew my season tickets.

Do not agree with OP. We need to give the new AD as much time as possible hire the next Coach.

DB needs to go ASAP. Keeping him on in this predicament does 0 good. We need to keep up the pressure if the regents/pres. Are going to take their sweet time.

Obviously the whole country knows Michigan fans are upset but nothing is going to happen until after the Ohio game. So all these little protest ideas are just making the school look bad bc they are meaningless. Recruits and future coaching candidates just see anarchy and they look elsewhere. People need to show up and support the players.

It's easy to disagree with the OP

In today's world, people need to speak with their wallet. Otherwise no one will listen. Whether it's the loss of season ticket holders, lost concession revenue, or the visible impact of a half empty stadium to national audiences. The impacts will be heard loud and clear.

I get that the message that we need to support the players. However, it seems painfully obvious that they don't want to be in the stadium either. So, I'm sure they'll understand.

if Dave is going to go, it will be by next week as I think we have a bye week. If not, I'm not sure its happening...if we fire him after OSU...who fires Hoke?

Going out on a limb here, but I'm tired of the "We must support the program no matter the situation..." blah blah blah

I refuse to support mediocrity and a program that lives and breathes tradition. What I have witnessed over the past 5 years IS NOT THE MICHIGAN I GREW UP KNOWING. Sure things change, people aren't the same, but the tradition and the way a school conducts themselves should not. It's embarassing to see what has happened and I refuse to support that. This is big time college football that generates big time money, if people can't handle the heat and upset money spending individuals, then get the hell outta this business.

MGoBloggers. Alumni. Students. This battle is only half ours. We have voiced our opinion. It has been heard on nearly every single news outlet in America at some level. There have been physical protests, name-calling/blaming, etc. I'm sure the point has been covered and understood nationally, let alone in our backyard.

The most recent response: boycott the kickoff, THEN go and fill the student section. THAT WILL SHOW THEM! No. It WILL cause more tension, and it WILL make us look like a school in the middle of a civil war. This thread directly opposes the one calling for a stand-out of the student section and proves the point that we are not united.

I WANT to support our team, but they need to take some responsibility for themselves here. They are the only ones who can make a drastic change. I realize they have a scholarship on the line here, but at the same time, UMich could not possibly let go of the whole (or half, for that matter) team. It would be similar to the refusal to play in (dare I say it) "Rudy, but it would leave the school with no choice. Everyone is united in one thing (regardless of their interpretation of it): supporting the players. If the players could muster up the courage to stand up against the mighty athletic department, it would be checkmate. Our 2015 recruites are dropping like flies so the point can't be made that we have a country full of top athletes waiting to take their place.

"They shouldn't do that! They'd be crazy to". For those that are inevitably going to argue the counterpoint, I'd like to point out that many would like to move on to professional careers in the game. Hoke made a big error. However, aside from that, he has an EXTEREMLY talented group of "sons" and is coaching their careers into the ground. Dave Brandon... no excuses. No, he doesn't coach, but he also doesn't understand a single issue facing the most traditioned team in collegiate athletics.

If the players can stand for themselves, it would say alot more for our program than massive/rediculous student protests that only hurt our reputation by elongating the issues. We're way past discussion at this point, it's become a yelling match and no-one's voice is being heard.

The silent athletes need to stand up for themselves, we will have their back.
