Did he have his player's back?

In other words, Bobby and Rajika Reid felt info in Carlson's column came indirectly from Gundy or his staff. ("I'd have a hard time agreeing with that," Gundy says.)

In other words, they felt Gundy's rant was fake.

"Honestly, the way I took it, I felt like it was all a front," Reid says. "That it was all a big show. It didn't feel genuine."

Miles is really old for a new hire; 61 years old and we haven't seen him handle a new recruiting space where he can't just pick up 4-5 future NFL picks virtually every year from his backyard like he can in LA.

Also, those wins come at a cost, but more importantly some of the stuff they do to win simply won't fly at UM.  So either they'll have to change their ways or the university will have to change their policies.  Neither seems likely.

Bring on Mike Leach!!! Is he weird, sure! Does he care about concussions, yes! Does he believe Craig James killed 5 hookers, damn right he does!! Can he coach football, hell yes! He likes to sling it around and we have a qb with a gun slinging arm! I don't know about his defenses but give him money to get a good DC and we win football games!

So Gundy defends a player to the media and that makes him a bad choice? Come on now. At least he isn't hiding anything. It's college football with 18-22 year olds hitting each other. It's not like coaches are not a little bit crazy at times. At least he's passionate.

Somewhere there is a unicorn the entire fan base get behind.  Even with Jim Harbaugh you will have a faction saying he turned his back on UM and "exposed" them for academics blah blah and is a traitor.

Really all that matters is who Stephen Ross wants I guess. He wants Jim for Miami so we'll see who he wants for UM.

Well thats who our leaders (Ace and Brian) want. Apparently they'll put up with anything rather than support this staff. It's pretty pathetic! First they bitched about Lloyd.  Then they called for Rich Rod's head. Now they turn their back on Hoke (and Brandon). Next they'll be calling for Bobby Petrino. Just win baby...

I can tell you the discussion on this article in local sports radio was about the SI article's  credibility. Not unlike stretchgate and the Free Press Jihad we went through under Rich Rod. Some of it may have been true, but the reality is so distorted by the article that it's hard to believe anything.

The players interviewed were all dismissed from OSU for various reasons including drugs. They aren't exactly credible sources.

The guy who wrote the article (Evans) is an OU alumni with a deep bias against OSU. Not even close to objective. He's had it out for OSU for a long time now. Like, an actual track record of it. So, this isn't exactly an unbiased article. The fact that they decided to split it up into SIX parts leads me to believe that they are grossly oversensationalizing real events that took place (or just making shit up).

In other words, I wouldn't read too much into that six-part crap.

If you don't believe me, here's an article in Awful Announcing directly addressing it, which also mentions a Deadspin article that has a comprehensive breakdown of each of the players that were interviewed in the article.

So...yeah. Mike Gundy is a man. He's 40. Well, 47 now. But I'd be cool if he wanted to coach at Michigan, though I honestly don't know if he'd really want to leave OSU.

Don't want Gundy or (coach's name here)  because...(fill in the blank)

Here's a thought.  Why would Gundy or any other A-list coach leave their newly upgraded stadium supported by megadollar donors and successful teams (coaches and players) they have put together?  Every big school has a Ross that can write that same check.

There's probably 10-20 coaches out there who can be successful at Michigan that aren't even being discussed right now.  Michigan is going to have to do some work this time to find the right coach.

I think of Bill O'Brien at PSU.  Since sanctions PSU has a better B10 record, head-to-head wins, and one less bowl win than Michigan.  BOB wasn't a must-have coach for anyone but PSU.  Howevver, he was the right hire.

"We're Michigan" isn't gonna make anyone come running anymore.  The only thing modern Michigan Football has in common with the days when coaches would have come running is the uniform.  Sadly I don't think anyone on this site has the confidence that Pizza Boy won't screw it up again.

I just read the whole SI thing.  Certainly there has to be some truth to it, but all the juicy quotes are from a handful of players who had a number of personal problems before, during, and after their truncated time at Oklahoma State.  I think at any program in the country you could round up some disgruntled athletes who got kicked out and commence the poo flinging.  Still, I would rate OK St. as one of the less clean programs out there.  What I don't think is fair is being a Miles advocate but not a Gundy advocate, as Gundy was basically the continuation of the Miles program and any questionable practices can be traced to Miles just as they can be traced to Gundy.  So the whole "We want Les, but Gundy is dirty" is completely nonsensical.

I played for Coach Miles at Oklahoma State while Gundy was the OC and I can assure you he is not a great football coach. In my only other post on the stie I shared my reason for going to Oklahoma State and I left when Coach Miles did. If you closely examine the Oklahoma State program the more hands off Gundy has gotten the better program has done. He is essentialy Mack Brown 2.0, just a figurehead, since our current is just a figurehead I think we need a more hands on football coach in my opinion.

FWIW, the SI story includes allegations that go back to when Les Miles was HC, and at least two of the players that were interviewed were dismissed from the program by Gundy after he became HC. At least here in Oklahoma, the perception is that Gundy cleaned up some of the mess that Miles created.

Also, there have been numerous claims about Gundy not being real happy at Oklahoma State, due in part to the ridiculous 10 year deal the AD made with the bb coach but something similar not being offered to Gundy.
