What are our chances?

Submitted by KennyGfanLMAO on

With two games left in the season, what are our chances at beating Wisconsin and/or OSU? Does the defense step up? (by step up, i mean allow less than 38 points) Does the offense step up against respectable defenses? Or do our seniors get a boost of emotion and finish strong to end their careers as a woolverine? Tell me your thoughts

Not true. You can't ever say our team has a 0% chance of winning any game. Even if we were playing Florida and Alabama the last two games, we would have even the slightest chance to win them both. Sure we probably won't win, but we definitely could. That's why they play the game.

im not predicting we win either game, but i will still be very optimistic watching both.

wisc - we beat them with the crap team we had last year, why not this year!? hard to win there, but we'll see.

osu - hopefully a lot of seniors will get their heads out of their butts for this one. osu lost to the purdue team we should have just beat. anything can happen.

chance of winning a game.

Last years train wreck of a team beat the Badgers, so I wouldn't be (totally)shocked if it happened again.

As for OSU, despite their big win today, I don't think they are all that great. Anything can happen in a rivalry game. Plus UM is due for a win over them, right.

I don't really see us winning either game, and that is painful to admit. Camp Randall is a tough venue, and we will probably commit several TO's.

Ohio State will only need to rush its front four against our OL to get pressure. Our defense will struggle to stay off the field, and Tressel always seems to unveil some new looks against us.

We are going to go into Wisconsin and get beat by three touchdowns. If emotion plays into anything--consider that UM sucks arse on the road, Wisconsin just might have some revenge on their minds (and may not want to be one of the TWO teams UM beats during the Big Ten season--AGAIN). And, uh, I know they had a toughie against Indiana today, but they also just barely sqeaked by Purdue last week by 37 points.

As for Ohio State: Uh, no. Forget about that as of this minute.

I'm really, genuinely bummed out after an M game for the first time this season.

MSU and Iowa were frustrating because we were so close and if just one of a number of things in those games had gone our way, we'd have won.

Penn St. was disappointing because we didn't show up, it seemed, but, it's a game we were expected to lose so... not good, but whatever, it happens.

Illinois..... yyyyyyyeah. But, my thought after Illinois was, "At least we have Purdue next week, we should win and be bowl eligible."

Now, after this week... despair. It was a close game that like MSU and Iowa, we should have one, only contrary to those games, this was a home game, and Purdue is neither a top-tier B10 team (a la Iowa) nor a rival (a la Sparty), and now we're confronted with staring down the end of the season on the road against a very good Wisconsin team, and then vs. OSU, *needing* to win 1 of them to become bowl eligible. That's a high pressure situation for our very young, very inexperienced, very inconsistent team.

After last week, as bad as it was, at least there was still time - and hope - to soothe the pain. Those things have now slipped away. Only 2 games left, neither of which look very favorable to us. This was the game we needed to win, and we didn't.

Frankly, I think we get smoked by Wiscy next week.

I still have a shred of hope we can maybe beat OSU and go to a bowl, but the chances don't seem good and it's our last chance. At that point, it's literally "all in" for this team - if they can eek out a win the season goes on and they survive to see another game, if they don't, it's over.

I said in another thread that I didn't think that if UM scored less than 42 points in the any of their final 3 games that they don't have a chance. Unfortunately I think that is still true. Only chance I think we have is if we get one of those 2008 Minnesotaesque performances, but after losing to us last year UW will be ready and there is no way we get that type of performance against OSU.

we have little chance of winning either game. We've lost confidence as a team. Like the Lions, we're beginning to expect to lose.

Sad situation. Another year without a bowl game.

SIMPLY UNBELIEVABLE.

I think there is 20 percent chance of beating wiski if they don't throw the ball. A negative 20 percent chance of beating osu. Our secondary is bad enough to make tp look like Dan Marino. I’m not so upset about losing today, but what I’m upset about is losing and not being upset. I hate feeling like there’s no chance of Michigan winning.

I wanted to say the chances are slim and none and slim is getting out the suitcase to start packing.

Of course we have a chance. Purdue beat OSU, Boise beat OU, MIss. St beat Florida before. Anything's possible, but a Michigan win next Saturday is not very likely.

There is nothing wrong with being realistic. Brian said we'd lose to Purdue, does that make him less of a fan? No! That doesn't make you less of a fan. Being a fan does not mean you believe your team WILL win no matter who they play. Yes, we have a chance, but based on the play of the defense, that chance is very slim. Especially since it's in Madison, one of the toughest venues in the Big Ten.

I think Wiscy is more beatable than people think. They have a good team and are playing at home, but they also have the type of offense that UM can keep up with. UM has been burned the last few weeks by teams running a variation of the spread offense. Wiscy runs a much more conventional pro-style, and while I have no proof to back this up, it just feels like the type of offense that this defense can stay with. No little quarks running by mediocre LBs, no ninja delayed handoffs by speedy QBs. This is a pretty vanilla offense that will try to run you over. That might very well happen, but there is some hope. And for all the talk of revenge, UM was also seeking revenge against MSU, PSU, Illinois, Purdue, and ND this year, and they are 1-4 this year with that drive. I cannot imagine that Wiscy will care too much about last year - they have a chance to snag a nice bowl/share of the Big 10 title this year if they win out. That should be enough incentive.

OSU - probably a loss, but home team at the end of the season, you never know. And for all the talk that Pryor has turned the corner, let's see how he looks against Iowa next week. We've seen this out of him before - one or two decent weeks, followed by a mass of turnovers. Probably won't happen against UM, but one never knows.

I still think we can win both games. I think we CAN that is not an indication that I think we will. I have been following M football since '04 and I know since then the home team in the M Wiscy game has not lost. That stat does not bode well for us going into satuday's game. I have never seen M beat tO$U so that is not a very good stat for us. With all of that being said I think it is high time we start breaking some of these stats. Damnit I hate the thought of another year listening to the Sucknuts brag and knowing they beat us. I hate those fuckers

My dad and his buddies always talked big about building a small "squadron" of replica WWI biplanes. They even went out and bought suitable engines for the project. These were guys who talked a good game, but you just knew wouldn't get it done.

As such, I told him and his friends that if a single plane ever flew, I would shave my head bald. I further upped the ante by saying if the whole squadron flew, I would strip naked and run the length of the airport runway. This is what even jamiemac would call a "safe bet."

Needless to say, I kept my full head of hair and clothes on.

The chances of us going to a bowl game are about the same. However, since this UM team is also the same bunch (mostly) that defeated ND, I won't be making the same bet. I don't want to lose that kind of wager and (trust me) you don't want me to lose it, either.
