Has to be someone on defense. If Mattison won't accept it give it to one of the position coaches. To give it to anyone on the offensive staff (particularly someone who has been here for half a year) makes no sense from a coaching or optics perspective.

I think Mattison would accept it for the good of the team. Being an interim coach is more a "someone's got to do it" thing than a great privilege.

But at least he has a coach's respect for Hoke and is a friend. I think Dantonio and MSU could have done worse things to Michigan in previous seasons but let up due to this being the case. Hire Hart and Dantonio will salivate at the opportunity to take it to 'big brother' a bit harder.

Nuss should be the interim HC right away. Give him the rest of the year to see what he can do to turn this around. I believe this is what WV did when RR left. Bill Stewart earned the HC job and did a very good job if my memory is right.

This would not be a good idea given the current dumpster fire on offense. How much of it is Hoke and how much of it is Nuss remains to be seen, but I wouldn't be willing to give him the whole show yet. I think it has to be Mattison.

So, I honestly feel that Hoke is cutting off the nose to spite the face. Honestly, I dont know what is going on, but I feel like Hoke is handcuffing Nuss. Leaving Shane (Nuss's Guy) in the game for so long yesterday. Im sure snaps at practice were not that even.
I was there yesterday, and there is a clear divide on the sideline.

Hoke has shown his stubborness throughout his stay here. He wants manball no matter what. I would think that Nuss would want to show "his" offense, but Hoke has given him "goals" for every game.
I would like to see what Nuss could do given the freedom with the offense.

You haven't given this much thought, I take it. Nussmeier's tire fire of an offense is the unit which is most directly related to the failure of the football team. He was charged with molding the offense into a cohesive reliable unit, by any measure you choose he has failed at that mission.
Nussemeier famously pointed out that Michigan was eleven points away from four more wins, the implication being that he'd get those eleven points and four wins. Instead his through five games his offense is giving up 18 points per game to the first five games of last season. Let's make this even more clear. Last year Michigan scored an average of 32 points per game through 13 games. Not enough scoring said the masses, so Al Borges was run out of town to the tune of cackling glees of the Michigan football intelligentsia. Nussmeier's offense is averaging a paltry 20 points per game with a shutout to its ignoble credit. Instead of running Nussmeier out of town you want to promote him? What am I not understanding?
Don't get me wrong, I was saying three weeks ago with the embarassing loss to ND that Hoke had proved he wasn't the guy. But no, you don't replace the head coach with the subordinate, whom he hired, that was most instrumental for the HC being fired.

If you go the interim route, that guy needs to be an HC candidate. I don't think Mattison is an HC candidate. Nuss would be, even though his product has been a big part of the problem so far. I wonder how much of that is him and ow much is Brady or even Brandon calling the shots. Mallory or Smith would be the only other guys on the staff that would be HC candidates in my mind.

Despite being an Ohio State alum, Moeller bleeds Blue. He is a regular sight behind the Michigan bench at basketball games. I think he'd love to be Interim. Only question is whether his health -- he's older than Carr -- permits. If he's up to the job, the move should be made this afternoon!

Gary Moeller is 73 years old. Much more importantly, he has been out of coaching for over a decade -- his last job was in 2003 for the Bears.
I think it would be unfair, to him, to ask him to step into the middle of a season when he has (literally) been out of the game so far. How could he get up to speed in reasonable amount of time?
I thought he was a very good coach during his time, but that time is over. If it wasn't, he'd still be coaching (or at least be an advisor) somewhere.

I understand that he wants to be on the field talking to the QBs but lets look at the data.
In the booth: good offenses including a national championship offense.
On the field: complete and utter garbage!

Is supposed to make sure each and every offensive player has the correct helmet on the sidelines? Both shoes tied? Jock on? Shirt on right side out, name in the back? ...at all times? Does he check in on these things with everyone every quarter? 5 minutes? Each snap?
At some point players become accountable. Pretty sure when it comes to their own equipment they'd want to take that matter into their own hands and not have a coach worry about it for them.
"Sorry coach, Nuss...can't go in you didn't have my helmet put on my head for me!"

Is he or is he not the quarterback coach? As soon as the starter gets hurt, it's responsiblity of the position coach to have the next men up ready to go. He didn't. Failure.
Of course, you want to keep focusing on this minor point -- this was not even his biggest failure on the day. The position coach needs to be looking out for the safety and best interests of the players he is charged with coaching. He let Morris go back in the game. Egregious failure.
Maybe it speaks to the issue of not having a dedicated quarterback coach.
