GR3 signs guaranteed deal with T-Wolves

Submitted by JeepinBen on

According to Adrian Wojnorowski on the twitters. Congrats to Glenn! He's got a guaranteed roster spot and contract - most 2nd round contracts aren't guaranteed, but Glenn will be in the NBA next year!

By my count that'll make 6+ NBA Wolverines next year:

Nik, Trey, Tim, Mitch, Glenn, Jamal Crawford, plus Darius Morris may stick this year and Epke Udoh once played here...

Awesome to think that all 5 starters from the Final 4 team are now in the NBA

My own 20+ years, as a mostly full-time all the year, chick sexer were very satisfying; and in those times very profitable. I sexed chickens for one large hatchery all the year round, another large egg farm in the spring hatching season (in Australia June till mid-October), and seventeen smaller farms and hatcheries mainly in the 'Spring' hatching season, with some hatching smaller numbers all the year round. If I went for more than four days without chick sexing work I started to have 'withdrawal symptoms'. Several of my students have expressed the same feeling when they have not sexed chickens for a week or so. A couple of my more sophisticated acquaintances have asked: 'How can you spend all your time just sitting there looking up chickens bums?' Part of the answer is a chick sexer has to always be living in the present moment, I guess. With chick sexing you have to focus solely on what you are doing all the time if you want to be very accurate and fast, both essential if you want to keep your customers and get highly paid. Also there is the satisfaction of being well known for your accuracy in the industry: I think they call this ego. I am sure there are other occupations that also require this focusing skill. Learning to always live in the present moment has benefits far beyond chick sexing. Meeting and talking with the actual owners of the farms and hatcheries each week, was a pleasure and advantage, that today's chicken sexers would rarely have. It was like an industry exchange of information or gossip if you like. Another of the positive and lasting gains from my years as a chick sexer was the habit of self- discipline in every thing I do. You have to be fit and alert and have good eyesight and nibble fingers. Which for most chick sexers means no smoking, if you drink, it must be in moderation; also you tend to look after your health, even if only in a subconscious way. This can be said of all occupations, but for accurate chick sexers it is essential.

Well played sir.

I can help, although my fingers are not as nimble as they used to be. I am experienced in vent sexing, feather sexing, as well as alternative sexing.

Perhaps you've heard of my book, Determining Female Sex in Chickens, or the follow up, Determining Male Sex in Chickens. Some people have said "Richard, why do you write a second book?" to which I answer, Why not!?

GRIII was probably the person with the shakiest draft position of the Wolverines who made themselves eligible last year.  A guaranteed contract is huge for him.  This is more proof that the University of Michigan is a great place for recruits who want to become NBA players.

Good lord. They might have to change Lob City from LA to Minnesota. Ricky Rubio is gonna have a field day throwing them up to that roster.

Improving draft stock is overrated.  Losing a year of compensation is underrated.  Losing a year of youth (lowering perceived potential) doesn't help your draft stock either.

I think a lot of people were subconsciously selfish in their "opinion" that GR3 should stay.  Especially when you consider that it likely would have been another year with him playing out of position and, thus, not making those offensive creator steps that many wanted to see.

Then he would make in his first year what would probably take two now. So as far as losing a year of money, i think you're wrong. Wasn't this also a deep draft, what does next years draft projections look like? I mean, if Caris is a first rounder than you gotta think Robinson woulda been top 20.

A first round deal would have most likely been for a TON more money (no terms of this deal were released).

The first round deal would have been guaranteed for two years--this is only a one year deal.

So basically, since he was a 2nd round pick, he had to fight for a one-year deal that pays him probably about 1/4th or less of what the total guaranteed money of a 1st round deal would have paid him.   He will have to continue to fight for a roster spot and will have to then fight for another deal next year.  If he manages to get that, he'll still probably have made less money in two years than he would have made in 1 year of a first round deal.

Of course there is no guarantee he would have been a 1st round pick next year.  I think he would have been ala Hardaway, but no one will ever know.  He's already beaten the odds by getting a guaranteed deal as a 2nd rounder, which indicates he was probably underdrafted this year.

Obviously this is fantastic news for him given the situation, but I still think he would have been better off sticking around and being in next year's draft.

I'm really happy for GR3. Can't wait to see some highlight dunks on Sportscenter.

I'm really curious to see if Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. can make that "sophomore" jump. They both had decent rookie campaigns, it'll be fun to watch their development.

Of Alltime in my opinion with Wiggins, GR3 and Lavine (the most athletic of them all). I watched GR3 in person in the summer league and he seemed to be the exact same person he was at Michigan. I'm hoping he can take that next step and unlock all of that potential.

Not to be a downer, but there is no guaranteed roster spot. Just a guaranteed salary. While that certainly may help encourage the team to keep him, but still a chance he ends up in the D league.
