...we won
September 13th, 2014 at 6:48 PM ^
That is accurate.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:43 PM ^
Turnovers will kill the season and get the coaches fired if they continue.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:47 PM ^
if they continue. It's been Michigan's biggest limitation IMO over the last few years.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:44 PM ^
Shane Morris throws so well that receivers can't catch his passes even when the ball hits them in the hands.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:33 PM ^
Lefty ball spin moves differently. /s, I think.
September 13th, 2014 at 8:25 PM ^
It's why they don't play gridiron (American football) in the Southern Hemisphere.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
Green's vision really improved somewhere in the 2nd quarter.
September 13th, 2014 at 9:29 PM ^
Yeah. Either that or we played a team that hasn't won since 2012.

Understood, but he had gaping holes in the first two games that he missed. The fact that he hit open holes is a sign of potential growth
September 13th, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
He had one big run where I thought he'd made a great cut to get outside to daylight, but during the replay I realized he'd run away from a giant hole, forcing himself to dodge a guy to get outside in the first place. Miami (NTM) might just be so bad that his vision was irrelevant.
September 14th, 2014 at 2:01 AM ^
I don't remember him missing holes against App St. at all, nor do I remember anyone else saying he did.
September 14th, 2014 at 10:01 AM ^
He did early, but was better later against App St. Go look at the first half UFR for App St.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
Don't have to much else to say.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
How bad do you think the funchess injury is?
September 13th, 2014 at 6:49 PM ^
Total speculation: out against Utah, back for Big Ten play.
Basing this on how he was able to touch the banner and celebrate TD's, but was still a bit limpy and obviously didn't dress for the game.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:07 PM ^
I completly agree. At this point, I don't see this Michigan team making the playoff. WIth that said, the B1G Ten Championship is still attainable and very imporatant for the team.
I would rest everyone that even remotely needs it against Utah. If the difference between Michigan winning or losing against Utah next week is 100 percent dependant on Funchess playing, then this team is in trouble for the rest for the year IMO.
I didn't see Funchess in a boot or in terrible pain, rest him against Utah and he should be 100 percent come B1G time.
September 13th, 2014 at 8:04 PM ^
making the playoff?
September 13th, 2014 at 8:22 PM ^
bit of Nostradamus in him.
September 13th, 2014 at 10:03 PM ^
B1G title? look, i'm a huge michigan fan and say stupid things and make stupide predictions every year, but there is no way in hell either of those things are happening. I thought they wuld win 10 at beginning of the year, but i think right now the ceiling is 8 wins.
September 13th, 2014 at 11:04 PM ^
Playoffs!? Are you kidding me? Playoffs!? This is not a playoff team! OL not playoff caliber. QB not playoff caliber. Coaching not playoff caliber. Playoffs!? Are you kidding me!?
With apologies to Jim Mora when he was coaching the Saints. You Tube it. Please.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
Offense is still having too many breakdowns and the play calling occasionally is horrible.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:50 PM ^
were the only guys on the field who mad plays. Darboh and Chesson just didn't look that great. Green really impressed me, ran with good vision, made nice cuts and finally broke a tackle or two and churned his feet through contact. If he continues running like that and adds in a stiff arm, he's clearly our best back.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:25 PM ^
Someone blocked on those plays.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:48 PM ^
Clown show, but I'll take the 'W'.
Green looked really good, though. As did Butt. With Funchess back, we'll have some weapons. I'm not going to say that DG shouldn't be starting, but part of me would really like to see what Shane could do with those weapons and the first team as a whole. Shane has a comfort in the pocket that DG will just never have.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:52 PM ^
I am also not advocating Shane over Devin.....yet. Devin just doesn't look right out there for some reason.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:09 PM ^
I don't know if this is on Nuss, but DG's playmaking ability seems restricted. I feel like DG is trying so hard to sit in the pocket and go through progressions, that he leaves yards and plays on the field he could've made with his legs.
Saw the same thing with Denard late in his career. Take off and use your God-given abilities.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:11 PM ^
He also seems to be floating a lot of passes rather than rifling them - almost like he hears Nuss in his head talking about touch vs power.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:59 PM ^
They look like "shot puts" is the best way to describe it.
Devin could have easily had 2 more INT today - the Butt pass and on the first drive he lofted one out wide that a superior CB would have returned for a pick 6 after a 95 yard run.
I think Devin is what he is at this point and we are not going to see a different man this year. There will be turnovers, and they will be costly. I hope most are on the other side of the field. If we had a JR or SR backup I'd advocate for a switch as I think having 50% less turnovers is more important than losing some dynamic game play. I also don't see the same runs as last year, maybe by design but his foot speed doesnt seem quite the same as last year. I expected him to explode past MAC level defenders and it is not happeing. Maybe the foot injury robbed him of some speed.
September 13th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
I agree, Butt basically intercepted that pass from the CB.
September 14th, 2014 at 2:03 AM ^
He looks like he's jumping on too many of his throws. You can see both feet leave the ground.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:27 PM ^
I've been a huge Gardner supporter but I'm starting to agree. Something just looks off. Morris is so decisive with the football. I'm not giving up on Gardner but he just doesn't seem to handle pressue well.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:39 PM ^
All of Morris's throws were on roll-outs, which shows you that the coaches are not confident with him scanning the whole field. Give him half a field and a simple concept and let it rip.
September 13th, 2014 at 8:02 PM ^
Pretty sure he stood tall in the pocket on one of his balls that was dropped. I think pocket presence is one of Shane's clear advantages over DG. There was a play in the first half where DG has a pretty solid pocket (surprise!) and he inexplicably ducked down to avoid a phantom defender, thus forfeiting the whole play. He lifted his head up, saw that he was, in fact still protected, and took off running. For two yards.
September 13th, 2014 at 8:06 PM ^
I think Devin's pocket presence is sub-par, but Shane did not throw from the pocket today.
September 14th, 2014 at 12:16 AM ^
I just watched the game, both throws were indeed off of play action and rolling out.
September 14th, 2014 at 10:08 AM ^
Shane also hasn't spent the last year and a half watching his protection get dismantled in front of him. Hard to blame Gardner for being a little gun shy at this point in his career.
September 13th, 2014 at 9:32 PM ^
I'm sure Staee and Narduzzi will never figure that out. Sigh.

Morris steadily shortening Gardner's leash. Last year, it was use in case of emergency. Now, it's deploy if Gardner makes too many mistakes, with "too many" getting lower and lower.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:52 PM ^
And your basis for this statement is what, exactly?
September 13th, 2014 at 9:36 PM ^
Um I'd say he's spot on. Morris is PROGRESSING as a QB. Gardener has progressed as a leader but not as a qb. Love the guy but he needs to snap out of the deer in the headlights routine or coach hoke is going to have to park his ass to possibly have a job next year.

He threw two passes. Two. He went one for two in his last appearance. How is that "shortening Gardners leash"?
September 14th, 2014 at 12:33 AM ^
To borrow a term from Ace, the eye test says he's getting better. His last two outings have been solid, his one INT was more on Darboh than him, Darboh would run the same lazy route and cost Gardner an INT as well. Most importantly he's showing a great poise and feel for the pocket and is reacting well to pressure. I also got to see a lot of reps from him in the Spring Game. Obvious non-contact caveats apply, but frankly he was the better QB that night.
I never said he should start, but it's becoming more and more clear that he's getting good enough to warrant a shot if Gardner falters, even if it's just for a series so Gardner can get coached up.

Magnum has some really spectacular clowns.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:15 PM ^
Clown-like behavior makes a clown show, irrespective (or irregardless, if you prefer) of total yards.

Jack Miller is our best lineman, Magnum.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:52 PM ^
Ha, well, he's looked a lot better than last year. I'm glad for him. Not ready to call him our best lineman, though. Or if that's even really a compliment.

He is. It is. It's ok to be wrong. None of us knows anything but our hunches. You'll get 'em next time.
