Rough Weekend for the B1G
Maryland trailing USF
Iowa trailing Ball State
Northwestern leading N Illinois by 4
Minnesota beating Middle Tennessee
Illinois escaped W Kentucky 42-34
Nebraska escaped FCS McNeese St 31-24
Penn St struggled badly against Akron 21-3
Rutgers beat Howard 38-25
Purdue got pasted by CMU 38-17

Ball State and Iowa are setting football back at least 30 years.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:03 PM ^
What're you talking about. Wasn't it 2-0 after the opening kick? That's a pretty good start in my book.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:06 PM ^
It was 9-3 at half.
Was the safety actually on the opening kick? I did not see it.
I'm too nervous to be able to detect sarcasm at the moment.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:08 PM ^
Yeah there was major sarcasm there. But yeah it was.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:02 PM ^
Just another weekend for the B1G. Wish I had watched more of that Nebraska game. Was watching penn state game too closely.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:03 PM ^
BIG TEHHHNNNN.
Seriously though. If there's any year to win the conference, it's this one.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:03 PM ^
Who cares how the game goes as long as you pull it out in the end. Do you think Bama scraping by last week or Florida State playing a bad OK St. team close did anything to change the perception of the ACC or SEC? No.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:04 PM ^
SEC looks worse this year and they looked worse last year I thought. But Georgia looked beastly good.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:03 PM ^
when this weekend costs us a playoff spot. Better blow out ND and hope msu blows out Oregon.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:04 PM ^
Woah man. Never hope state blows anyone
September 6th, 2014 at 6:05 PM ^
I bet Oregon puts a 50 spot on them.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:04 PM ^
Well in reality it's probably been the fifth best conference over the last two years. I wouldn't even have been too proud to have played in one of those strange title games.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:09 PM ^
If you think the ACC is better than the Big 10 top to bottom then I have a bridge to sell you
September 6th, 2014 at 6:10 PM ^
Is this bridge located in Detroit? I've heard they are pretty solid investments.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:04 PM ^
Nobody cares about the middle of the pack games, especially when they end up In wins.
Tonight will dictate how the big ten is perceived in the coming weeks
September 6th, 2014 at 6:05 PM ^
Minus their monster left tackle Scherff, Iowa is an absolute joke. How did we lose to those guys last year?

Al Borges play calling
September 6th, 2014 at 6:05 PM ^
You people act like this conference is the only one that loses to the MAC or FCS teams. Temple destroying Vanderbilt is basically equivalent to Purdue losing to Central Michigan. And ND St. beating Kansas St. last year is like Nebraska playing McNeese state close
September 6th, 2014 at 6:07 PM ^
As long as Michigan, OSU and MSU win tonight. None of these games matter at all.

September 6th, 2014 at 6:28 PM ^
Well let's hope these games matter because I want OSU and MSU to get thrashed
September 6th, 2014 at 6:31 PM ^
I don't understand this thinking. A rising tide lifts all boats. The Big Ten playing better and recruiting better makes Michigan better. Them getting thrashed tonight is not good for Michigan.

The conference is bad this year. We knew this going in... And lucky for us we added two total dead weight schools. Thanks Delany.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:08 PM ^
Teams like W. Kentucky and N. Illinois are damn good teams that give everyone problems. The fact that Illinois won means that they're not nearly as bad as they were last year. Also, saying that Penn State struggled against Akron by beating them 21-3 is a joke
September 6th, 2014 at 6:12 PM ^
Did you watch the game?? Defense looked good but the offense looked mediocre at best for a huge chunk of the game
September 6th, 2014 at 6:15 PM ^
Who cares how they looked. If they won 21-3 that's all that matters. There's no requisite number of points before you start looking good. You could say Washington is the 6th best team in the Pac12... Is their game today any more impressive?
September 6th, 2014 at 6:23 PM ^
They looked like garbage. But for some major Akron gaffes, they'd have lost. Acting like it was just a W is absurd
September 6th, 2014 at 6:27 PM ^
I didn't watch the game. But take last week's UCLA/UVA game... UCLA wouldn't have won without some defensive touchdowns and turnovers.. Even against a terrible UVA. But guess what, nobody cares that a top 10 team almost shit the bed because they won in the end
September 6th, 2014 at 6:27 PM ^
what the perception of the score might be to those who didn't watch (people like you). Point is they struggled. Perfectly aceptable verb for that performance.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:27 PM ^
but it matters when they start playing teams with a pulse. They can't run the ball worth a lick.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:23 PM ^
I watched. PSU couldn't run the ball at all. Got some yardage late on wildcat when Akron started getting worn down, but it was ugly. Don't see how you can claim they didn't struggle Akron had some key drops in the game, and late they got a questionable spot when they were only down 11 and in PSU territory. Could have made it interesting. PSU never looked in danger of losing the game but they didn't not look good. Maybe chalk it up to fatigue from the Ireland trip.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:08 PM ^
It's always been the Big 2 and little 8. Now it's the Big 3 and little 11.

And what is the ACC then? They only have 2 somewhat good teams... FSU and Clemson... Everyone else is absolute garbage. Unless you're going to tell me that Pitt could hang with Wisconsin or Nebraska.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:26 PM ^
before them? Maybe.
Pitt looked really good when I saw them. Excellent O line play.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:29 PM ^
I hope you're not talking about the BC game because Tyler Murphy is just straight up not a QB. Not at any level. Not even high school.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:32 PM ^
Pitt's o line looked very good.
And yes, I watched the game. BC could have possibly come back and beaten Pitt.
I'd say Pitt probably could hang with Wisconsin and Nebraska this year.
But not on a year to year basis.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:30 PM ^
playing. Glad that transfer worked out for him. He still looks a little small but seems like he's been a starter back there for a while.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:13 PM ^
From about the early-ish nineties until the late 2000s, the Big Ten was pretty solid: Michigan, OSU, Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Purdue were all pretty good most years, plus teams like Northwestern, Illinois, and Minnesota would occasionally rise up. So it hasn't always been this bad.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:15 PM ^
IMO,
MSU will be back where they were in the next 4 years.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:30 PM ^
Like it or not, Michigan St is a serious program and a legit contender. It's coaching staff is excellent and they just get it done. MSU is here to stay as long as Marky D is in charge
September 6th, 2014 at 6:20 PM ^
We do today. As of now, it's only OSU and MSU that are any good.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:21 PM ^
To be part of the 3?
Or did you mean Wisconsin, OSU and MSU?
September 6th, 2014 at 6:22 PM ^
You can choose whatever 3 you want angry Michigan fan. It's always been top heavy.

Northwestern trails by 3.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:11 PM ^
Whoever wins the west is going to get slaughtered.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:13 PM ^
Just win. Conference pride is overrated. If we go 13-0 or 12-1 we'll be in the playoff.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:19 PM ^
Likely 13-0 gets us in, but 12-1 in a weak B1G does not.
1. Sec champ
2. B12 champ
3. PAC-12 champ
4. ACC champ, 1 loss sec team, or a 1 loss michigan? It's a toss up. That's the issue, especially because ESPN keeps preaching the the B1G is terrible and our teams all struggle against even average out of conference opponents.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:15 PM ^
It wasn't a comfortable 21-3. The game was in doubt halfway through the 3rd quarter.
September 6th, 2014 at 6:20 PM ^
First the Big 10 overall sucks. it makes it sadder we are struggling in this conference.
Second, the Big 10 right now would fall 0-3 to the MAC if nothing changes. That is sad.
Third, no one really cares about the bottom 2/3rds of a conference. I don't judge the SEC on Vanderbilt or Ole Miss or (currently) Tennessee. If the top 5 teams in the Big 10 punched other Big 5 conference teams in the mouth 70% of the time we'd be considered a top conference. We don't. So it is up to us, OSU, PSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and yes MSU for now to do the job. If we had 4 of those teams rolling at once it wouldnt matter what Northwestern Iowa Illinois did.
But Wisconsin can't win a big game outside the conference. PSU and UM have been lost in the wilderness and nebraska loses 4 games every year. So these things need to change or perception won't.
