There's The UFR!

Submitted by JeepinBen on

C'mon Cook, some of us have to pretend to do jobs while waiting for and then reading the UFR! How else will we know what to expect from the awesome DL, or the potentially not awful OL? Gotta see some grades!

Me right now: (Sub "burrito" for UFR)

Our long national nightmare is over. And the burrito was delicious.

Yes, I am also very eager to read te UFR. Really interested in how the tight ends played and of course like everyone else want to see how the offensive line graded out.

I'd prefer quality to expediency ... if it takes a few days to compose it well, then we wait.

I am, however, looking forward to it.  Love those UFRs.  Love the breakdown articles in general.

There is nothing - and I mean literally NOTHING that pisses me off more than when the free content on the free websites I visit isn't published to the timetable of my liking.

Has it ever come out this early? I'm pretty sure it's usually around 4pm on Wednesday and Thursday. I know that because it comes out when I'm trying to finish all my work that I've put off all day.

On that note since this is a wasted thread...

Is there any good ND blogs to get my hatred flowing from a 10 to 11? I need some HATE WEEK part 1 material.

"We" are wrong and Brian is right, even after the ufr's. The issue is that we don't know the actual play called and the specific responsibilities of the players.

I like his analysis and think the trending of players is really useful, but it's not science, without all of the data.

Oh, yeah, I've been critical of the idea of UFR as Gospel. In a few instances, I have commented my disagreement on what the actual play, or technique, or whatever was. In fact, I trust my own observations much more than I do Brian's, and I don't really agree with his points system.

But, man, the tape don't lie. I've thought on many occasions that the LG boned the protection, but upon further review, have concluded that the protection was actually a half-slide and the C was actually at fault.

I think fundamentally I like the idea of the UFR, and I think for the most part Brian gets it generally correct. I think the point system and RPS structure have some flaws (particularly the latter), but I think the idea of it, in the end, benefits the readers and their understanding of the game and how people in general played.

I've voiced my disagreement on parts I disagreed with in the past. Probably won't do that much anymore for various reasons though.

I have to say, Brian's job is really, really tough. I can't stand watching film if its not the end zone view. The broadcast generally makes diagnosing coverage very difficult. It makes grading routes nearly impossible. I wouldn't want to do it. He does a damn good job considering the quality of film and him not being a coach who breaks down film every day.

Here is a fact for those of you not old enough to remember.....  the TV show Michigan Replay, on Sunday mornings, was THE best thing ever... a one on one with our head coach, covering the game... what a masterpiece it was.... and Brian's UFR has in many ways, filled some of the void.......

ahhh, the memories... even the cheesy music played during the sponsors, like "Stir It Up" by Patti LaBelle from the Beverly Hills Cop film, with Brandstatter in background saying "brought to you by Budweiser"  etc.

For what its worth, "Inside Michigan Football" is no consolation for not having Michigan Replay.

Even sparties loved that show, because Bo or Mo would comment how great their LBs were, etc.

Yep!  I can still see Bo and Jim sitting back in those big soft chairs....Jim serving up softball questions....Bo making you want to run through a wall every time he said the word "tackling."  Nothing could ever be as good as that.  I remember one time when...just a second, I think someone is walking across my front lawn...

Watch the every snap videos on MGoVideo...

Always holds me over until the UFR...

One of my biggest questions from the Every Snap Defense....

Why does Glasgow play so much? Such a non-factor on the field and often looks like he turns away from the play... Dont get it.

I have no evidence to support this, because I haven't paid attention to him. But run defense is essentially nothing more than being in the right place at the right time. If he is playing a lot, he is probably more consistent in carrying out his responsibilities than his competition. A guy can be a huge factor without it being obvious to the TV viewer. Look at Brian's post about our MLB play for an example.
