OT:Dealing with Co-Workers

Submitted by joeyb on
How do you guys deal with co-workers who are sure RR is gone at the end of the season? I have tried to give facts, but they won't take them. I try to use reason, and they don't think the logic is correct. They have tried to convince me that Bill Martin ran off Les Miles, Rich Rod ran off Ryan Mallett, Rich Rod will for sure be fired after this season if we don't beat OSU, and that Gerg is responsible for our horrible defense(!). Then, they say, "You see, this is why I don't like talking to you about football" after I begin raising my voice to get points across to them. Should I just skip the football talk altogether? Should I try something else? I have sent an email with misopogon's Diaries and some other articles to prove my point, but I am not sure if it will make a bit of difference. What do you think?

I have friends who get so much pleasure out of MIchigan losses (and other downfalls), it's sort of scary and pathetic. There's nothing you can do except avoid the subject.

new coach, from outside the program, went 3-9 last year, yada, yada, yada. But no one wins in College football by changing coaches after two years. RR will be a winner at Michigan, but its going to require patience. Good luck, man, it must be tough to put up with that stuff everyday.

A blank stare and walk away. I work in Cleveland F*n ohio, the crap is thick. The chief officer of my department made sure to pay me a visit today to ask me how my Wolverines were doing. I just spoke to him in jibberish and pretended I didn't understand him. He thinks I'm insane, which should keep him a good distance away until he's not annoying anymore; which will be never.

Funy as hell quote from a Sparty this morning "I'm really getting sick of the way these guys (Spartans) are playing. That's not how you play MSU football." Really? Really? That's all I've ever seen of MSU football. I had to try hard not to laugh.

My boss is a domer so he gloats after every one of our losses despite the fact his mighty Irish fell to us this year. I guess it all depends on if someone is willing to hear reason or is just anti-Michigan and enjoys our shortcomings.

You might as well not talk to them for the rest of the season and then when we don't fire RR go back and talk to them. They'll realize they were pretty dumb and you aren't.

If they are... Sparty, or OSU, or ND, or PSU, or IOWA, or hell, anyone. I pretty much thank them for following my team and then ask them who their team played and what the outcome was. B/c , hey, I don't follow their school. I hate to quote Rudy's dad, but we only watch one team in my house son. They walk away as I am beaming with arrogance.

was fixed for me when I decided to become a teacher/tutor. All my "coworkers" are my students, so I get to freely say SHUT THE HELL UP, YOU GO TO CU at them as much as I like. Power trips. Give one a test drive, let me know how it goes.

Never talk sports, politics, or religion with someone from the other side. It is a conversation doomed from the start. Although MarkGoBlue brings up a valid point that "pooping on their desk" may be a solid option, remember that most corporations frown upon intra-office defacation of anykind outside the restroom. Also, it seems to be a generally accepted standard to avoid this. My boss is a huge Buck fan so I always talk Michigan down (which hasn't been hard lately) and I talk OSU up. Play the politics or avoid it all together.

Get them to put their money where their mouth is. If Rich Rod is gone at seasons end, you'll pay them $200. If he stays they pay you $100. 2/1, if they don't take you up on this bet then you can be sure their talking out their ass. For the record, Coach is not going anywhere after this season. Take pride in the fact that you're not as ignorant as them and can actually see the facts.
