OT: Favorite football movie?

Submitted by Bob The Wonder Dog on

Just rewatched "Any Given Sunday" for the umpteenth time. Love that film's camera shots, it's gritty realism, and Al Pacino's speech at the end. That Jamie Foxx can ball.

Hoping to get another few football movies in before Saturday. Any recommendations?

Friday Night Lights, the TV series, is amazing and a must-watch for any football fan out there. As far as movies go, it has to be Remember the Titans.

North Dallas Forty and The Slaughter Rule.  Both explored aspects of football culture that media had largely ignored.  And the acting in The Slaughter Rule (not to mention the superb soundtrack) was fantastic.

Remember the Titans. Easy.

"Petey, how many feet are in a mile? How many feet are in a mile."

"Uhhh..."

"5,280 feet! You pick up this ball, and you run every single one of 'em!! Ya killin me Petey! Ya killin me!!"

#1:  We Are Marshall -- one of the only football movies that I have ever seen which seemed like a realistic depiction of the sport.  Especially college football, which is its own special animal.  That movie is the definition of why we watch sports movies.

#2:  Wildcats.  -- Call me nuts, but I absolutely fucking love this movie.  Great cast of actors in it.  Funny as hell.

Painless: [lining up during football game] All right, Bub, your fuckin' head is coming right off.

[the first use of the word "fuck" in a major motion picture]

-----------------------

[a gun goes off at the football game]

Hotlips O'Houlihan: Oh my God! They've shot him!

Colonel Blake: Hot Lips, you incredible nincompoop! It's the end of the quarter.

------------------------

Colonel Blake: Football game?

Gen. Hammond: Yeah, yeah, we put up a few bets, five thousand maybe, and have a little fun. Special services in Tokyo says it's one of the best gimmicks we've got to keep the American way of life going here in Asia.

Colonel Blake: Betting?

Gen. Hammond: No, football.

------------------------

Colonel Blake: [to Spearchucker Jones at the football practice] I had another idea. I think we should have some plays. You know, usually in football you have some organized plays...

Spearchucker: If you don't mind, I took the liberty.

Colonel Blake: Oh, you have...

Spearchucker: I drew up about seven or eight plays. I figure that's about all this bunch can handle.

Colonel Blake: Oh, these are good. These are very good. Uh, what are these little arrows?
