Michigan schedules home-and-home w/Washington for 2020-2021

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan and University of Washington will renew an old rivalry when the two football programs meet for a home-and-home series during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. This will be the 13th and 14th meetings between the two schools.

The Wolverines will travel to Seattle, Wash., for the matchup on Sept. 5, 2020, at Husky Stadium. The return trip by the Huskies will take place at Michigan Stadium on Sept. 18, 2021.

"We are excited to rekindle a rivalry that has showcased some great games and great teams for both programs," said Brady Hoke, U-M's J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach. "There have been some exciting, down-to-the-wire football games between Michigan and Washington and we anticipate the same type of contests when this series is played at the outset of the next decade."

This will be the fifth time that the two programs have played a home-and-home series.

Michigan and Washington have met on 12 previous occasions with the Wolverines holding a 7-5 edge. U-M has a 3-1 record at Michigan Stadium and is 2-2 at Husky Stadium. The two programs have played in the Rose Bowl on four instances, with each team claiming two championship trophies.

Michigan won the most recent meeting between the two teams. Philip Brabbs converted a 44-yard field as time expired to provide 13th-ranked Michigan with the season-opening 31-29 victory over 11th-ranked Washington (Aug. 31, 2002). Michigan missed three field goal attempts prior to Brabbs first career conversion.

Pretty good history between these 2 programs.   Back-to-back Rose Bowls.   A "recent" home-and-home with a last second FG to win for UM. 

I like it.

You've got to love that campus and the idea of tailgating in your boat on the lake outside the stadium is really cool. 

Michigan has had some really great games with Washington over the years from Bo to Carr. This is a good matchup. Looking at those future dates, Michigan will be back to the kind of scheduling it had in the good old days. That's the way it should be.

Sure, LSU, Georgia, and the likes would be more marquee games, but this is still a quality program from a power conference.  Let's wait until they announce the second home and home before we jump all over this one in a negative light.  If the other one is the crappiest power conference team out there, and this is the bigger game, then maybe throw a fit.  But if the other team is of the caliber of Washington or better, I'm satisfied.

Part of me almost doesn't want a marquee SEC team for a September home and home. We go down into their swamp and in return they get to come up for nice late-summer/early-fall weather. Now if we could ever get one of those teams up for a game in November (which of course will never happen, unless they switch to home games for the playoff semis), that would be something to see...

I threw out LSU and Georgia because of the constant talk of wanting to play them.  But I would absolutely love for an SEC team to come up North after mid October.  I guess its difficult because of scheduling.  Ideally, I'd like to take on a different PAC12 team, Big12, or ACC too just to mix it up.

I have a feeling these are the types of games we are gong to get more often than not.  A game against a decent, not marquee, opponent in an area of the country with a fair number of alums.  If we have to do a home/home might as well make it where we can have a solid fan base and agaisnt a team that we, on paper, should beat.

When was the last time Michigan played two big non-conference games in one season?  UConn and Vanderbilt don't count in my view, so I suppose 2007 with ND and Oregon?
