I think the collective no- use of "retard" in the MGoBlog community is one of the reasons this site is much better than most sporting blogs. It just makes you look ignorant.

We are not part of the team. We are fans of the team. We root for our team, but we are not obligated to show solidarity for every player and coach, unless we are at the actual game and cheering them on to victory.

Here is something I posted last week edited down a little bit. It still applies.
There will be calls for RR's head no matter what happens, short of winning a National Championship and even then I wouldn't doubt that some people would still grumble about how things are being run. We still are the team we thought we were at the beginning of the year showing flashes of brilliance and failure as was expected. We are still on course for a middling season of 6-6, which I will consider an improvement over last year and a stepping stone on our way back to success.
Yes, it sucked last year breaking our bowl streak. But the flip side of that was, we were the only team for 30+ years not to miss a bowl. This period of unparalleled success has left many of us complacent and jaded about the history of our program. Last year will not be the low point in Michigan history.
Jerry Hanlon, an assistant coach from 1969-1993 (who apparently also has more Big 10 championships (17!) than anyone else), came and talked to my class with John U. Bacon today. He talked about coming up to Michigan with Bo as a part of the "Miami Mafia," and turning around the program from the mediocrity of the 1960s. The biggest impression he left on me was when he asked us, "Why do we play football at the University of Michigan?" The class gave answers of economics, prestige and winning. He agreed with all of them but he stressed the main purpose was that it was good for the players.
I know it sounds altruistic and trite, but just take a step back and look at the program. I know the results haven't been the best for the past two years, but you can't deny that we have a first rate university, a first rate program and a first rate coach. It was obvious Hanlon bled maize and blue and the fact that he is still sticking around and intensely proud of the team gives me a whole lot of pride, hope and belief in the team. Be proud of the Michigan tradition and have some faith in the program.
Michigan football has changed immensely from 1879-today, but the main fact is it has risen from the doldrums many times before and it will again. From 1958-1963 we were 20-29-3. In 1964 after a 2-7 season we made the Rose Bowl the next year. We have had years of mediocrity and years of great success.
Just sit back and enjoy the ride, it may not be this year or next year, but Michigan will be a championship contender again. Victory feels so much better after you have tasted defeat.

I think most of us know that M will be back to being M one day hopefully soon, but the problem is that M has not been in the doldrums since Vietnam. Many of us have never known a bad year let alone a streak of bad seasons.

While I don't disagree with you on concept. 'We' are not the team. Unless you are practicing every day (only 20hrs a week, fyi) then...
While I slip sometimes, I try to refrain from refering to the Michigan Football Team as 'we' because... well, I've never worked as hard at anything as they work everyday for UofM.
Anyway... yeah. I agree.

I think that the Michigan economy, and the national economy, have been so bad as of late that everyone is looking for something positive. Our Jobs may be in jeopardy, or houses may be in foreclosure, but we can survive as long as our Wolverines are winning. When the Wolverines are losing it takes that last little bit of hope I have and rips it away from us. If the times were better we would put the Michigan coaching situation in perspective. Since they are not, no one can be expected to be rational.
