What the #$%@!?

Submitted by Brhino on

First off - I'm sure this post will be negged, maybe deleted. It's okay. That's fair. At this point, I need some catharsis, and the only thing I can think of is to head on up to mgoblog and type for a while. So, readers, mods, whatever you think is appropriate, no hard feelings.

With that said, what in the flying #$%@ is happening? My brain simply cannot comprehend what is happening in this football game that I've now turned off. Who are these impostors in yellow and blue winged helmets? Did Pioneer High dress up as Michigan for Halloween?

The defense - we knew this was going to happen, right? We knew Juice was going to run for 20 yards on third and 15 sometimes. It's as maddening as anything else, but our defense is what it is.

The offense is what probably would have burst a blood vessel in my brain had I continued to watch (oh, and, incidentally, if this is turning into the greatest comeback in Michigan history as I write this, feel free to make fun later). First and goal on the half yard line and we can't punch it in? Not mad about replay overturns. Overturns were correct. Mad that we couldn't move the ball 18 inches on four tries. How many turnovers do we have? Four? How many more times have we fumbled and kept it on offense? Another four? Not a damn thing is going right. Forcier looks like a "Oh god we're starting a-" Freshman. Zoltan the Magnificent shanked one. Dropped passes, missed blocks, dropped passes, sacks, overthrows... this is a disaster. And it's against a 1-6 team! It's not against a decent Big Ten team. This was our last gimmie (well, maybe purdue). Are we even going to a bowl game anymore?

I've loved Michigan football for as long as I can remember, but games like this fill me with such anger and misery that it'll be a week at least before it goes away. I wish I could erase this game from my head, and erase the looming feeling that I'll be making the same wish for the next several saturdays. Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh.

Silver linings:
I didn't drop any swearbombs in front of my two-year-old-daughter
Uh... that's about it.

Anyhow, thanks for reading, if you did. Neg away, if you like.

Don't forget the meltdown after State. AND Iowa. All I am saying is that some people on here are acting like we are never going to win ever again. Call me crazy but I hate sitting here listening to people do things like questioning the heart or drive of a team, that most of these posters will never meet. So I don't care who we lose too, most of the time the reaction is not warranted.

Those two other meltdowns were not warranted either. In fact, I don't really think there was much of a meltdown at all after MSU. The Iowa one was primarily surrounding the decision to put Denard in, not that that excuses anything.

I refuse to excuse an internet message board of the right to meltdown after being blown out by the worst team in the Big Ten. That game was somewhere between sad and pathetic.

Im not trying to take away an internet message board of the right to meltdown. It was a terrible loss, I agree. All that I am trying to say is that a lot of the people on this board really need to calm down. I dont mind rational people like you. I just hate the people like the "OMG FIRE RICH ROD" people. The ones who write in all caps, and neg people who make rational arguements. Or all the people informing us that they are off the bandwagon. I just hate having to listen to people who seem like they are quitting on this team

I agree with you.

Also, funny thought: People that say you are off the bandwagon...do you realize how silly you sound? A true Michigan fan isn't "on the bandwagon" for Michigan football. There is no bandwagon. It is either you always support the team or you never do. The team is bigger than any one player, coach, or AD. And that is about it.

That is a good point about all the people saying they're off the bandwagon. I bleed maize and blue. My grandpa taught there, and my mom grew up there. So thats why I get so upset when people say things like that. You're either all in or not at all. I agree this is bigger than any one player, coach etc.

My guess is that I have been a MIchigan fan - and seen more winning and LOSING seasons - than you both possess in years.

I honestly don't feel I have to prove my loyalty to my team to you or anyone else on this board.

Are you calling me out? So what you're trying to imply is when you hit a certain age you can walk away because a team is not performing to your expectations? I'm 30, and at my young age I understand that there is a possibility of losing season(s) even if you are the Michigan Wolverines. In 25 years of memory, I can recall many up's and down's. Thats why I'm a fan. Thats why I'll alway's be a fan. The buildups and breakdowns are what make football exciting for me, and Michigan never fails to impress. Maybe take up bingo, it's less stressful. Just make sure to pick up some Maize and Blue Markers! Go Blue.

I'm falling off the bandwagon very quickly. This is just bad football, fundamentals are not being coached. Freshman or not, its not just that, we're a bad team. We havn't proven anything, we just as well could be 3-6, with those three wins against garbage teams. We suck.

Yes, this is bad football, but to say that fundamentals aren't being coached is nonsense. This team works on fundamentals much more than any college team should have to, especially on preventing fumbles, and that's a problem. What's amazing is that the same mistakes keep repeating themselves. Execution in practice doesn't translate to gameday. Clearly we need to play every game at home, too, but even that's no guarantee.

That said, this is the first game this year that has left me sick to my stomach.

with a breath in your body and forget. We are still dealing with the youngest team in Michigan history and today they're playing like it. If only Roundtree would have made a cut none of this would have happened as Juice likely would have been sat and whoever would have come in.
On the bright side, the Lions are blacked out tomorrow so maybe they will win again.

Losing, in that fashion, to a team we had on the ropes early in the third quarter is just brutally painful.

Painful. Torture. Agony. Death. Ugh.

I feel slightly better now.

I'm just going to say this and get it out of the way.

It's been harder losing these games this year than it has last year. At least last year I knew we shouldn't have been good, but this year I feel there's not as big of an excuse. This team has started to go downhill and it's a pretty big bummer. I know we're better than this so what the hell? I guess it doesn't help working in C-bus this year where last year I didn't, so going into work on Mondays have been brutal. Hopefully we can get Purdue next week. Just really looking for that bowl bid at this point.

Does anyone see this team give up? I've seen it the past 2 weeks in a row. Rich rod doesnt have the talent, nor do I think he ever will...

He'll be gone in 2 years.

RR is "building a program," remember? It's not like we had 39 straight winning seasons, the bowl streak, etc. [insert sarcasm disclaimer here]

In all seriousness, if Michigan goes 7-5, or even 6-6 with a win over Ohio State, the season is pretty on par where most of us thought it would be. He gets a third year, and will be judged on that. Anything less than 9-10 wins and then we can all blow our collective gaskets. We shouldn't have all started sucking each other's dicks after the 4-0 start, and we all shouldn't start breaking out the torches and pitchforks now.

It's not so much the overall record, it's just the way they are getting beat. I mean they aren't competitive at this point, not by a long shot. I could understand hanging in there and just getting beat by a touchdown or two, but they are just getting pounded, badly. And when that's not happening, they are self-destructing.

7-5 and a bowl game is needed next season, or the heat on RR will get white hot. It's just getting warmed up right now. The Michigan tradition of winning football is slipping away.

I'm still a fan. I still support Michigan, but I since the score thurned 28-13, I lost any hope of beating OSU and unfortunately I am having a hard time believing in 6-6. WOW! This really sucks.

I still and always will support Michigan and watch every single game. But... this game has definitely put some doubt in me regarding the future of our program...

BlueVoix

My basic thought process coming into this game was that we had to go at least 1-3 in the last 4 games, purely to secure a bowl berth. This loss, however, has me very worried.

I know mgoblog likes to be the bastion of sanity during tough times, but this team just lost to a 1-6 Illinois team coached by Ron Zook. No, Rodriguez will not be fired at the end of this year. Yes, he will have a third year. But the offense next year better be lights out, or 8 wins is going to be a struggle.
