Big guys pushed down a spot, likely can anticipate some small ball with the Suarez, Pitcher, Ravis, Carrera turnaround.

The Massey algorithm for the MLB (or as applied to the MLB) is something I was looking at during some downtime on our short little stint of storm duty today, and the current prediction would be something along the lines of an 86-76 for Detroit if the game-by-game predictions for the remaining games more or less held. So, a bit above .500, but I wouldn't be comfortable about the postseason with such a record if it came to pass - maybe it's just me overreacting to numbers.

Man, that would be depressing. I'd like to think it's somewhat likely for us to at least be 24-18 down the stretch. But, with the injuries and the schedule, I'm finally worried.

It's not an overreaction in the slightest, it's entirely reasonable to feel uncomfortable with this team's playoff chances (and, further, their success in those playoffs if they can get there).
Amazing that some people see no reason for concern considering all of the issues to date, compounded with the injury situation that has popped up recently.

That's a more difficult play than it looks and it wasn't like he didn't try for it. 20/20 yeah you can say he should have smothered it to hold up the runner, but he didn't have much of a chance at making the play at first.

I'm going to have to disagree here, Gaby Sanchez isn't what we could call, "fleet of foot" and too be honest Miggy's best attribute at 3rd was his arm strength. If he at least knocks the ball down he has a decent shot at throwing out Sanchez at 1st.

Hey. He put Ryan Raburn 3rd one day because, and I quote, "He can hit a 3-run homer." Mr. Raburn was hitting about .183 at the time. Gene Rayburn had a better chance at hitting a 3-run shot with his long skinny microphone, and he's been dead for over a decade.

I don't know what will happen the rest of the year, but this offseason they better address the holes at Catcher, The Pen and the Outfield.

I won't disagree that it's more strategic but it's archaic and frankly stupid that the pitcher has to grab a bat. I would gladly pay money to see Victor Martinez or David Ortiz hit the ball rather than watching the pitcher strike out or sacrifice the runner over.

There is a reason the ERA is a statistic kept in baseball. Because it provides a meaningful measure of pitching quality that takes bad defense (as best possible) into account. Again, Fister's is 2.34 and no Tiger starter is under 3.00 (and only Scherzer is under 3.50) . And trading Jackson certainly didn't help the Tigers defense. ]
I suspect Dombrowski had pressure to win NOW. But he has been trading desperately rather than wisely--and Dave is a very smart baseball man. The Fister trade was a mistake---a mistake that has snowballed into other mistakes. Rationalize away.

i dont understand about the inter-league rules.
When the Tigers play in an NL park...they LOSE the DH. Advantage NL team.
When the NL team comes to the Tigers park....they GAIN the DH. Advantage NL.
If they dont like the DH and wont adopt it....why do they get to use it when they come here?

That's some interesting logic. The big difference of course is that NL DHs are typically bench players, so by no means are they gaining an advantage in AL parks

putting in a bona-fide big league hitter in the lineup in place of the pitcher they use all year long.
How is that not an advantage? They should, by their own reasoning, be forced to bat their pitcher like they do all their other games.

Yes, a given NL lineup is slightly better in an AL park than it is sans a backup middle infielder in a home NL park. But, the AL lineups they face are generally significantly stronger than the average NL lineup, given that AL rosters are constructed around players whose sole job is to hit the ball. In other words, the added benefit of the DH in the AL lineup is much larger than the added benefit to the NL lineup

I played professional baseball for a little over a year back in the late 70's. I remember when the DH came into baseball and how much i hated it because i loved to hit ( i was a pitcher ) and it was me that was hit for.
I also know lots of NL "snobs" ( friends actually ) who despise the DH and think the AL is pathetic for allowing the DH. But they love it when playing in the AL and getting that almost automatic out, out of the lineup. They cannot seem to see their own hypocrisy.
When i see the inter-league games now and watch the pathetic hitting attempts of 99% of the pitchers i wonder why i ever opposed the DH.

That's fine - the merits of the DH are debatable, and even as a fan of an NL team myself, I think I would prefer a league in which the automatic outs are eliminated. I do think national league games are much more interesting in later innings when pitchers stop batting and managers start to get creative.
My only point is that the construction of AL rosters gives AL teams an offensive advantage over NL teams, given that the DH is generally a good hitter who is paid only to hit, while NL DHs are usually not very good hitters (most NL teams do not have very good hitters on their benches, given their inability to utilize them on a daily basis). So the AL has a fundamental advantage for the 4 extra at bats a piece that the DHs get.

who you are asking Firefly, but if they finish in 3rd...wow. They have given away a 7+ game lead to KC twice now this season. Hard to think that the manager gets another year after doing that.
On the other hand...the Tigers are not really a "knee-jerk" team like that either.
The obvious holes on this team at the start of the year have become absolute craters now.
