OT- Tigers and Jays still tied going into 16th inning

Submitted by MGoBender on

In the bottom of the 15th, the Tigers intentionally walked both Melky Cabrera and Jose Bautista to load the bases with two outs.  They got out of it thanks to a ground ball induced by McCoy.

Now the Tigers are the beneficiaries of a IBB after 1 out singles from Kinsler and Cabrera.

Ugh.... Torii grounds into the 1-2-3 double play.

I think we're going to see Nathan here... The city of Detroit may melt down if he gives up a run.

Also, Brad Ausmus was ejected what seems like a day ago.

So who's getting the call up tomorrow, probably Justin Miller, and Angel Nesbitt? Also what exactly does Bryan Holaday bring to the team other than bunting prowess? He's a righty that can't hit lefties and he's a pretty poor defensive catcher.

You gotta think at some point someone just hits a homer.  There's been so many guys on base, but somehow nobody has crossed homeplate since the 9th.

Tigers have also had 2 overturned calls go against them.  Both turned around innings.  This would be a great win if they can pull it out.

Gotta get it to the 18th now.

So Nathan yesterday, and Joba today have basically forced the Tigers to use their Tuesday starter because they couldn't get 3 outs without giving up a run...

I can't blame the offense anymore, they continue to provide enough runs to win the game by the 8th inning (at least 4/5 of the time, I'll admit they don't show up once a week) but when you do your job, then someone else blows theirs so consistently that you can actually depend on them to fail on a regular basis, it's easy to enter "fuck it" mode.

The offense was good enough this weekend to sweep, especially with our rotation, our bullpen got us jammed up all three games, with a lucky lucky win on Friday. I can't blame the offense anymore.

This is when I hate all of those late-game switches where a guy like J.D. Martinez rides the bench and Don Kelly is out there blowing at-bats because of the incremental defensive improvement.  I'd rather have his bat in there versus the off chance Kelly can run down a fly ball.

I absolutely agree with this. One run leads are blown more often than a great defensive play saves them. Unless the guy is a complete butcher in the field, these moves rarely make sense. Especially taking out a hot hitter for a poor hitter without much of a defensive upgrade!

Reminds me of the Tigers-Indians game in summer of 84. That one went more than 20 innings. We lost that one, but went on to win the Series of course. Hard watching this team lately though. So streaky. Hope they can get the late game bullpen stuff figured out or I'll need a good cardiologist.
