Nebraska loses 3 projected starting defensive players for the season, in 2 days
Projected starting nickel corner Charles Jackson gets season ending Knee surgery
Then, projected starter leroy alexander gets suspended for the year for undisclosed reasons.
Then, projected starting middle linebacker is gone for the year with an ACL tear
All in the span of 48 hours
Ugh that sucks, especially for the 2 injured guys.
That dreaded ACL.
Angry god joke here somewhere.

Hope they change those rules about dancing for those poor kids
This affect our choice of uniforms when we play them in 2037? I assume that is probably the next time they will be on the schedule, right?
are an unfortunate byproduct of a sport that is, at its core, controlled violence.
Just hope we can avoid em!
I hate this time of the year. Best of luck to both the kids that were injured.
The overall vibe of the comments over there, of course, were perhaps summed up best by the person who titled their post:
So many words, so little alcohol.
In all seriousness though, that's rough and hopefully Rose-Ivey and Jackson are going to "kill this rehab", as Ivey's tweet claimed (see comment thread on CornNation). Best of luck to them in their respective recoveries. As for Alexander, CornNation got a hold of an e-mail -
"Nebraska sophomore defensive back LeRoy Alexander has been suspended from competition for the 2014 football season. Alexander will remain on scholarship as a member of the Nebraska football program and will be allowed to practice with the team. Coach Pelini and the Nebraska Athletics Department will have no additional comment on this matter."
of college football that I don't like. Hope the injured have a chance to RS and play one more season or apply for medical wavier ala Gardner.
Boom Goes the Dynamite
Nebraska and Pelini are becoming my second favorite team. This is too bad for the players especially. I don't think they're too deep on defense. Good thing for a weak-ish schedule.

I talked to one of the trainers last year about the sudden rise in ACL tears. He informed me that they did a study of these injuries over the years (he's been at M for almost 30 years) and the number of ACL/year has remained almost constant no matter what turf they've played on (astro, grass, field)
working behind enemy lines. my work here is done!
kidding aside, i hope those guys come back 100%. those are life-changing events.
I expected no less.
We haven't even gone to full pads yet.......2 guys in 48 hours plus a suspension.....Shhhheeeeesh.
horribly the next time we play.
But I'll still echo my previous sentiment. Hope your guys are okay.
i think most of us rightly are empathetic with the injured lads.
I didn't think he was being sarcastic.

is off. i'm sure it has to do with me being in nebraska right now....

So I wouldn't worry about it regardless.
Tone and text don't get along. Reading his message as I assume you did your response is pretty spot on.
Blerg, that's terrible. Hope the get well and come back strong.
Too bad we don't play them this year and they are in a different division

I'm counting on them to give MSU a loss. This doesn't help. Too bad for the kids.

Hate to hear that. The injury God's are lurking...

What conference are they in?
August 9th, 2014 at 11:23 AM ^
How much are these players being paid for their likenesses?
(Admittedly, I was trying to be snarky but I am genuinely curious about the suspended player--will coaches be able to fine a player out of that money as punishment?)

Scar is surely behind this.

Injuries so close to the season break my heart. Just seeing how pumped everyone is for the season, how proud they are of the work they did leading up to it, and then Bam, gone in an instance. Throw in the fact they only get 4 years and the possibility of them losing their position on the depth chart, and it's just almost too depressing to think about.

doesn't win the division, looks like it will be.....probably still Nebraska.
August 9th, 2014 at 11:09 AM ^
Wisconsin looks to be in the drivers seat now...Maybe NW can pull it together. Other than that I might give an outside shot to Iowa...not sure anyone else in that division really can step it up.
August 9th, 2014 at 11:12 AM ^
Based on schedule Iowa is prob the favorite. Wisconsin lost a ton of starters I believe.
but in my defense we haven't played them for 26 years.
August 9th, 2014 at 11:08 AM ^
I hope these players make full recoveries and speedy returns to their team.
Nobody should be injured and it stinks that it happens to anybody.
August 9th, 2014 at 11:33 AM ^
Terrible. Wishing the injured players a full recovery and hoping that the suspended one can get everything together. Hate to see this.

Still have Abdullah. Still the West favorite in my mind.
I don't like Bo-Bo Pelini, but I hope these fine young men have a full recovery.
They should be full speed or near full speed by spring ball.
Be strong Bo.
I'm not angry joking nothing after the last few years and our run of ACL tears! I hope they recover quickly and fully. I feel their (Nebraska fans) pain
