Full Uniformz For Penn State Released Comment Count

At 8:15 on a Friday, so unless they're trying to bury their publicity stunt—not likely—they were blindsided by the catalogs for like the third straight time and released them early because the cat was already out of the bag. It's 2014, guys: the internet is fast.

The cat:

Goofy numbers were already known, and then the monochrome blue. They're running out of options before they start tossing around all yellow, aren't they?

Why do they keep doing things the fanbase hates. We aren't Oregon or MSU. The Yankees don't wear clowniforms. The Red Sox don't wear clowniforms. PSU doesn't wear clowniforms. USC doesn't wear clowniforms.

I can't believe anyone brought up with a love of Michigan football and the tradition it stands for actually likes these damn things. Any of them. Minor tweaks like a block M on the sleeve of our away unis is fine, or the imprinted block M on the shoulders of our '97 unis that were barely visible unless you were really close are acceptable. This shit isn't. It just isn't and I'm getting pretty fed up with the uniformz. We have classic uniforms, stop fucking it up with extra bullshit.

36. Love them! It's one game, and I love the idea that Ryan and Taylor sat down and helped pick them out. The traditional Michigan jersey is a college football staple, as well as the rest of the uni, but for one game a year, let's let the guys who bust their asses in practice and represent Michigan with dignity and class have some fun with the jerseys. Go Blue!

I'm 25 years old and a Michigan alumn.  I care about Bo Schembechler, who I care about less than Fritz Chrisler, who I care about less that Fielding H. Yost.  I care about The Big House.  I care about the Marching Band.  I care about "the winged helmet".  I care about the maize and blue.  I care about winning, but I care even more about what Michigan Football is supposed to represent - beyond the sport - beyond the entertainment of it.

These jerseys have absolutely no impact on all these things that I care about.  The players clearly like them. It makes the game they are about to play in, the importance of it, seem even more special for them.

Who are you to criticize?  Really ask yourself that.

I'm 31 and I hate it.  Well, to be fair, I hate those damn shutter shade looking numbers!  If it was just the normal home jersey with blue pants, I'd probably love them.  I'm kinda on the fence with the shoes.  Anyway, my father, who's 30+ years older than myself, loves them.  I don't think you're going to get a sure fire answer to what age groups like them vs which ones don't.  Those numbers though...smh

The players love the striped clown suits with blue pants? Link? Michigan players liked the bumblebee outfits? I don't buy it. Maybe a couple players. I'd like to see evidence, "they love it."

Because they aren't doing it for the fanbase.  They're doing it for the 15-16 year old recruits out there that dig the idea of schools changing it up with new uni's.  Personally I think the all blue slacks look badass, just hate the numbers against that shit 1980's boy band background, but perhaps they'll look sweet against the grass and under the lights.

I don't get it. But, then again, since I'm not a high school kid, I'm not the target demographic anymore.

Dave Brandon and Adidas invent the future, and I guess it looks like Bizarro Michigan Man standing in the Red Room from Twin Peaks.

I consider myself pretty easy going with alt uniforms...but for fuck's sake, this is taking it too damn far for the home uni. I don't mind it nearly as much as messing with the away unis as they've been changed often throughout history. And the first UTL was a semi-throwback. But this? Goddmanit I may have reached my breaking point with whoever is making the football team look like a clown show. And combined with the losing? Just makes us look like fucking Maryland.

And it's about time they went blue on blue. Those jerseys are great! The helmet pops out so much more in these.

Excellent.  I've been thinking about how I'm thrilled with everything about our football program these days except for the home uniforms.  That's the one thing that just badly needed to be fixed.

[Confession:   I don't completely hate the look.  I mostly hate that we're finding excuses not to wear the best uniform in American sports.]
