Martell Webb signed by Browns

Submitted by Randy Marsh on

Felt it was board worthy and I'm bored so I'm posting it.  Former UM TE Martell Webb was picked up by the Browns today.

If you're saying "who?" it's because he played for us during the very forgetable 2007-2010 period only totalling 9 receptions for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns in an offense that didn't really feature tight ends.

He has bounced around a few practice squads but hopefully he finds a role for Cleveland.

Memory (confirmed by a quick check) says he was a four star on Rivals--glad even though his Michigan career didn't include big stats that he is finding success in the league.  And yes, I think a kid who registered few stats at a non-O-Line position that makes it onto practice squads is finding success.

Practice squad minimum pay for 2013 was 6k/wk or 102k per year if retained for the entire season. There is no limit to how much they can be paid, and there are eligibility requirements.

In comparison league minimum for active roster players in 2013 was 405k.

All in all, 6 figures for scout team is a good living, I just wanted to clarify.

Martell was in the wrong place at the wrong time, roster wise... at Michigan.  Had he played under the Bo/Mo/Carr offense, he would have been known as a great TE.  Guy has talent.

Straight out of Pontiac Northern, which now exists as Pontiac High, my former high school. Never knew the guy though cause I'm super old. HUSKIES!

He wasn't featured as a receiver much, but he was an excellent H-back club-type substance.

I've wiped most of the 2010 MSU game from my memory, but I've retained the clip of Webb dragging a hapless Johnny Adams into the end zone like he was a child.

Saw this scroll across the bottom of TV last night, I had to do a double take as I hadn't seen the name in a while. I'm ashamed to say, I thought "wait did he play for michigan? or am I confusing that name with someone else?"
