Video has no sound. I can play the other CTK vids w/ no issues, so its not my device. Anyone else having issues?

I think my coaching points Nuss discussed had to do with both Gardner and Morris' footwork. I also enjoyed Nuss telling Devin not to do that dumb double pump fake that at least to me became synonymous with Al. I feel like as the running game became more and more inept we saw more and more of that damn draw play. I wish I could remember the particular game but I remember a game we seem to have attempted to run this play or the screen off of it at least 5-6 times. Drove me nuts. Gardner's fake was so unrealistic and the motion was so obvious seemingly everyone knew what was about to be run.

If Devin and Shane's footwork is drastically improved I feel I will already I like Nuss more as a QB coach. I know Denard was more than a project at QB, but the fact that He never improved in this area much under Borges coupled with the high number of mistakes early on last season by Devin really make one question if Borges really knew how to fix some of the larger technical mechanical issues of the QB position.

That is what irks me so much about Al.....even under Rod Smith I thought Denard had better mechanics and looked like he was getting coached up.

Once Al came in it seems like everyone lost their mechanics and footwork. Al clearly has forgot more about football than anyone of us will ever know but I feel like what he did know he just couldn't get it across to the QB's. Campbell/McCown I think covered a lot of what Al couldn't teach QB's.

I love bugs.

Not defending Borges but (a) do we know he didn't "show" footwork and (b) you're implying that any coach of a certain age or portly-ness cannot teach a QB good footwork because he annot "show" how to do it.  There is evidence some overweight and/or older offensive coordinators and in fact offensive minded HCs do ok teaching QBs footwork.

I'm not sure we know for certain what Borges did or didn't do, just as we probably can't be certain that what we just saw of Nuss for 3 minutes is typical for what he does on a daily basis.  But, what we did see from Nuss that we never saw from Borges is committment to being a coach and teacher and being hands on.  Borges talked about what we wanted a lot. He talked a lot about scheme.  But, we never saw him actually coaching and teaching in the way we just saw Nuss.  As a coach you simply can't be effective with many young people if you stand back, analyze, watch, and assess, which is what Borges APPEARS to do.  You have to get in there, be energetic, show your passion and enthusiasm, and coach them up IMO.  You also have to show them that you care about them.  How do you do that?  You do that with energy, enthusiasm, feedback, etc.  I learned that the first day in my internshihp as a strength coach working with college athletes.  This is IMO the difference between Borges and Nuss.  One appears to more of a strategist whereas the other appears to be more of a coach.  Just ask yourself which you'd prefer to play for?

Again not a Borges fan here (I noted a few years ago how Auburn's offense got worse the longer he was there, and he was fired before a bowl...and also how Denard actually regressed in his passing game the longer Borges was around) BUT I find it incredible a guy who simply stuck to schemes and talking players through coaching - rather than actually coaching with action - lasted as an OC for so long and landed the OC job at 2 of the premier BCS programs in the country.

Also what does it say about Hoke that he took this kind of "non action teacher" around with him to multiple jobs.

I am just being a devil's advocate.  I agree with your points about how to coach in general... but I think a lot of people are throwing another coach who apparently did enough to last through a couple of high profile jobs into a bin of garbage.

Guys everything shiny and new is awesome - I get it.  And I am not arguing I don't prefer Nuss's way.  I am just saying there are many ways to skin a cat and there are plenty of guys who likewise in the same manner Nuss does and fail.  It is not rocket science out there - it's just stylistic  I'd rather have a Harbaugh in the trenches kind of guy myself - but guys who are cerebral and stand back do well too.  It's all in the application.

I think we all agree.  We're making sweeping generalizations form a very small amout of data.  Maybe Borges started out his career doing all the stuff Nuss is doing and developed a reputation as a good coach, which carried him along his various stops.  And, maybe somewhere along the long as he aged and got more expereince he became less interested in the coaching and more in the strategy.  Maybe that didn't happen until after he had established a relationship with Hoke.  Maybe that style even worked with more veteran teams or different types of QBs, but didn't work as well with guys with less than pefect technique like Denard or Devin and maybe was less effective with the young teams UM had the last 2 years. Who knows?  There are a ton of what ifs here.  And, the other side of that is that Nuss is young and is trying to prove himself, whereas a season Borges probably did so less.  But, I think we all agree that we do know and what we have seen from Borges the last few years was not great, but does appear to be good with Nuss thus far.  That's all we're really saying. And, I think it's OK to say that as long as we are also willing to admit that this is just our opinion based on minimal date and is neither fact nor impartial.

Edit: oh and I'm psyched for nuss and am not and haven't been a fan of Borges (even in 2011 *picks up pbr and takes a condescending sip after writing all this*). Edit #2: surprising no one they do exist. I realize auburn isn't recognized as champions by the bcs and the school doesn't claim it themselves. Also I'm not really sure how a sip of beer can be taken condescendingly (also, since it's hard to convey tone on the internet, condescending was added as a joke making fun of myself for the 2011 comment and nothing more).

Have to hope that Nussmeier's Michigan offense will be generating Mo' Money, Mo' Money, Mo' Money!  If not, there might be a lot of people hanging out at Schembechler Hall with "schweddy balls." And that won't be too good for the expression, "Go Blue!"

That's a coach I would want to play for and learn from. Our QBs are going to be getting coached up well not only before the game but Nuss is going to be with them between every series making adjustments. Go to Vegas now while the odds are still a good buy on this team.
