Insider Deleted??
Did the board melt down last night with the "insider" friend of a friend rumors?? The rumors seemed semi-plausible and he presented them fair enough as to their reliability. Did the thread spiral off topic or am I missing something?? It didn't seem delete worthy.

by the time I commented, the original post had been turned to just a period. by the time I posted asking about this, the post had been removed entirely.
this confuses me.

I dont remember anything being particularly inflammatory or breaching a shroud of secrecy that could put the rest of the season in jeopardy.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:44 AM ^
I would ask "huh?"
But, I have a feeling I might not get an answer/open whatever can of worms was closed last night.

like to know what i missed last night. wife was doing homework so i didn't get to use the computer all night.

Basically, he said he knew a manager on the team who had given him information.
I won't give details because of rumor mill concerns, but the gist was:
A couple of starters are running with the 2's.
A couple players fought in practice.
Boubacar Cissoko was kicked off the team. (confirmed before he posted)
October 28th, 2009 at 11:31 AM ^
the same jack ass that stired the pot in one of the threads before the state game... IIRC his "manager" friend told him that d-rob caught a td pass thrown by carlos....
October 28th, 2009 at 11:35 AM ^
it was the same "jackass" who broke the news about craig roh starting before the wmu game, which turned out to be true.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:39 AM ^
The issue is whether the information should be out there for the world, which includes opponents, to see which players they will OR WILL NOT be facing on the field.
Side issue: whether the manager is going to lose his position because his "friends" cannot shut up (and neither can he).
October 28th, 2009 at 12:08 PM ^
Well if the world (Illinois) got hold of that then all they really would have known is that we could be starting and running out any combination of 3 QBs, which would be an advantage to us and that Shaw and _____ (cant remember the name) got into a fight at practice.Oh, and Booboo is off the team.
Did he actually say manager? I really am asking. I thought he said he had a friend but I may be mistaken.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:12 PM ^
I don't know why he deleted. I don't know why people freak out. I'm just offering opinions.

into a flurry of fear and uncertainty. "What will they do next, those tricky M guys?" And knowing who WOULD NOT be playing doesn't mean shit, sorry, except for the vegas point spread.

Farside or something like that broke the Roh news. Apparently this was a different INSIDERZZZ

something about Sheridan running with the 1s. My brain preemptively shut down and I went to bed.

He made a few statements about practice from his INSIDERZZZZZ info. After the board whipped into a fury he deleted all his comments. The thread was titled "Nothing" for a while then "." for a while.
He was either a troll (probably not) or his buddy found out about him spilling INSIDERZZZZ info and took one of his kidneys.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:06 AM ^
..I thought it was a joke. But then people started responding to it as if it were serious. And it did get just a bit contentious. I expected a comment from the OP about the need to turn on sarcasm meters but it never happened.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:23 AM ^
He defended himself later on when people started making jokes about it. He was serious.
None of the stuff was really out of reason either. He didn't say that Cone was starting or anything like that. It just seemed that everyone was taking it as gospel or discrediting the OP instead of taking it with a grain of salt that you should with information like that.

The guy posted some stuff from his team manager friend, which caused a bunch of people to jump all over him, so he decided it was more trouble than it was worth and asked me to get rid of it. I did.
This guy has a track record: he said Woolfolk would start at corner against Iowa -- though he did unfortunately call him "Woolfork" -- and people get all huffy when he posts that Sheridan is running with the ones in practice some, likely as a wake-up call to Forcier. People don't sign up with a plan to screw with mgoblog readership a year later, especially when they've already established themselves as reliable. If you guys want to drive useful information away by being dicks I guess that's your prerogative.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:15 PM ^
So assuming this poster has good info coming directly from the practice field, how long before the anvil comes down on his friend, the manager?
Thinking more globally, it used to be that insider info (whatever the occasion) could only be shared with friends and family. As those F&F then shared info with others, the info would lose credibility with each successive rumor generation. The internet has changed this fact, and second hand info - generally pretty reliable - can be cast off into the world for all to see (if they choose to).
What does it all mean? Is a code developing for the spread of this kind of information? It seems that you, Brian, have standards for publishing insider news. Does this info even help? Does it take something away from being a fan? Sometimes... just sometimes, I long for the days of ignorance, and relying on the game write-up and Sunday column for my michigan football fix. Sometimes... and then I open up Explorer and start all over again.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:20 PM ^
This is not exclusive to this board. It's sadly all over the internet. People have gotten to the point where they ignore the actual content of the post and turn everything into an internet slap fight. This mostly has to do with the anonymity of the internet. It's nothing that hasn't been said on here before. I just can't stand the fact that it's gotten this bad.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:21 PM ^
Thank you for clarifying why the post was taken down. I get upset when a post shows up in my feed reader and then is deleted for no apparent reason by the time I get to it.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:33 PM ^
Thank you Brian. Thats why I'm going to send all of my "inside info" to you and let you break the news, instead of me getting negbanged to all hell for telling you my info even it is sounds implausible.
Anyways, moving on...

Just convince the ProShop guy to join MGoBlog, cut out the middleman.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:06 PM ^
Haha. I will. I do admit that was my least credible source thus far, or least credible sounding source. Bill Martins wife was the true source of that info though.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:38 PM ^
From what I saw, no one was being a dick to the guy. One poster referenced the quote from Ferris Beuller's Day Off about "my sister's brother's plumber (or whatever) saw Ferris pass out at 31 flavors last night." It was just a joke about "inside" information. The poster didn't get the joke, over-reacted,and went off. Then four or five posters explanied the quote, that it was just a joke, that no offense was meant, etc.
The rest of the debate that I read was about the merits of Sheridan at QB, whether Tate was hurt, should Denard throw a forward pass again, what else the information could mean, etc. Unless it derailed after I logged off, no one was out of line. It was exactly what you would expect.
Brian, you've got a good blog here. If you want to let someone who can't take a joke delete a threat that people were getting into b/c his feeling were hurt, well, that's your call. But calling your readers dicks is over the top (unless, of course, they earn it). Now, maybe the thing derailed after I logged off. Of course, I have no way of knowing.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:55 PM ^
If you have no way of knowing, then why are you making declarative statements?
October 28th, 2009 at 12:45 PM ^
This isn't an original thought by any means, it's been echoed time and again here but I feel the need to say it again.
If you work for the team and have insider info on a practice or a new scheme maybe you need to pick your spots. I really can't blame the guy that puts this insider stuff on the MGoBoard (I understand that for a layman having this sort of info is golden and tough to keep to yourself) but I have to say that team manager in question (assuming the story checks out) is probably not representing the club in the way that the Athletic Department wants him to by leaking this garbage out.
October 28th, 2009 at 3:25 PM ^
I certainly don't want to drive guys like that away, but I do wonder if it's wise to post potentially sensitive information - like a QB change - on this public site. That may not be something the staff would want leaking to the public in advance. (I agree that Sheridan probably isn't starting, but I think you get the idea.)
October 28th, 2009 at 4:26 PM ^
Oh come on. I cannot believe my ferris bueler style sarcasm started a spiral. People need to relax a bit.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:26 PM ^
I heard from Vizzini that the information was actually FALSE, but was posted in an attempt to have the ZOOKER and his minions think it was true. However there was concern that Zook was TOO SMART to fall for such a trick, so the post was deleted along with an elaborate "my buddy manager will get reamed if this stays out there" ruse to make the GREAT ZOOK think that the information was in fact true.
I think that ZOOK thinks that we think that he thinks that we think that he thinks the information is true. But we do NOT! So the joke is on him. INCONCEIVABLE!
October 28th, 2009 at 12:35 PM ^
we know that they know now, which means that they must know that we knew that they knew, which A HA HA! Now that means that we know that they knew that we knew that they knew, which means, ergo, that we have......
SCHEMATIC ADVANTAGE!
BOOM. WEIS'D.

October 28th, 2009 at 12:35 PM ^
I enjoy about this site IS the insider information. I mean really, anyone who thinks we're going to lose to another team because of information given out on this board is an MGoIdiot.
If I just want every day information, I'll read a newspaper. But then I found this place and got addicted (and the internet usage tracker here at work has my name at the top every week because of it) to the information being posted that wasn't every day information. I want to know what's going on in practice. I want to know things that you just can't know without this blog.
It's like the MMB debate that constantly goes on here - the high and mighty attitude of a few posters gets really, really fucking old.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:55 PM ^
all this board drama is like when you hook up with a girl and give your buddies a play by play and then the girl finds out, bitches to you about it, then comes back for more
October 28th, 2009 at 1:05 PM ^
but that reminds me of back in the day while in the Air Force - I hooked up with this girl at the NCO club and took her back to the barracks for some fun. The next day, I'm giving the play by play to my supervisor. He was all into the story and then happened to ask me what she looked like. Once I described her, his interest turned into anger. Come to find out I had just described to him in great detail what I did to his girlfriend the night before.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:00 PM ^
and I don't care anyhow, but I do think that it's pretty lame for a supposed team manager to be spilling stuff to friends. If I were RR that would merit getting rid of the guy as fast as he did Feagin. That may seem to be right in keeping with Fort Schembechlerism, but RR has been light years more open with the media than any of his predecessors. That openness doesn't necessarily mean he should have no control over what information gets out to the public about what goes on in practice. I bet that over time he's going to erect some of the barriers that Bo & Co put up in the first place.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:25 PM ^
Since we all know that RR as well every other big ten team closely monitors this site in order to get their inside information about UM and develop their gameplan it is obvious that RR will have that person fired right away.
*sarcasm.
But seriously, from some peoples reaction you would think everyone in college football combs this board in order to find out what RR is planning. My e-pinion (FWIW) is.....not so much. Even if they did, the normal readership here take everything with a grain of salt (even when it is known to be a reliable source) so imagine what someone else would take it with.....Likely a shot of Tequilla and some benny's.
