I promise I will not drink any Belgian beer today.  Maybe.  Actually probably not.  I really like that shit.  But I'll call it Freedom beer.  But I promise not to drink the shitty Belgian beer like Budweiser.

Sylistically, no not Belgian.  It's a poor take on a Czech style forced by availablity of new world grains in the late 1800's in America, and really crappy consumer taste.

But, yeah, it's now owned by ABInBev...InBev being a Belgian (and Brazilian I suppose) company.  So now it's kind of Belgian.

Budweiser is actually pretty good for its price range and style. Especially if you get it on tap, and especially if it's super fresh. If you're ever in St. Louis or one if the other 5 or so cities where they brew it, go to a local bar and get a Budweiser draught. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Actually I have; I have family in St. Louis and one works for AB.  And I still don't like it very much.  It's probably more that I just don't like pilsners.  I'm still on a journey to find a great pilsner that I enjoy.  The best I've gotten so far that isn't 'altered' (like Dogfish Head's Peircing Pils) is Weihenstephaner's.  Victory's Prima Pils isn't terrible either.  But yes, Bud Light is much, much shittier, and probably shouldn't be allowed to be called beer.

Ah, the original pilsner!  I have had it.  But that was actually quite a few years ago, before I really got into beer, and I can't remember a whole lot about it.  I know it's supposed more aggresively hopped than most toher pilsners, especially when compared to Budweiser.  I think I'll swing back around and give it another shot.  Thanks for the reminder; there's just too much beer to try out there today.

that AB puts out that I tried recently at a friends house is the Busch Copper Lager.  Its the Busch version of Amber Bock, a Michelob product.  It was a good amber flavor, but not as heavy as its Michelob counterpart.  Surprised me a lot.

But if you're from the St Louis area, try the Four Hands and Urban Chestnut family of beers.  Outstanding beer.

I just moved out of St. Louis last year, and I miss it. Four Hands is one of my favorite things ever, though I never liked Urban Chestnut that much. I think it's because I'm not a huge fan of German/Bavarian beers, and that's what they do best. I also recommend Square One if you haven't tried it, it's my favorite St. Louis brewpub.

Very good food to go along with an excellent beer selection. They also distil some spirits I believe. It's a cool place.

What I actually miss the most is Vietnamese row on South Grand. So much delicious Vietnamese food, and so cheap! Oh, Pho Grand, how I long for you. But yes, BBQ too. We lived a block and a half from The Shaved Duck (if you haven't been, go), which is a fantastic slightly-upscale BBQ and craft beer place.

I like beer.

I like ALL beer.

Budweiser is a classic American style beer, cold and refreshing.  Not the same as craft beers, which I also like a LOT.

But Budweiser is a crisp cold beer that I enjoy when its hot out.  Heavy beers don't do it for me in that situation.

Hey, its America.  We have freedom to like what we like.

I'm upvoting every post in this thread 'cause Merica. Screw Belgium. Screw waffles. Screw Leffe. Screw Eddy Merckx (actually very awesome). Peter Paul Ruebans is a bitch! Lemaitre was wrong.
