MBB Assistant Coaches get extensions!
Michign signed Bacari Alexander, LaVall Jordan and Jeff Meyer to extensions including raises.
Details are not available yet but this is obviously great news!
This is a big deal. Much deserved all around.
Giving our MBB assistants raises for being awesome = a better use of athletic dept. monies than better wifi so people can instagram selfies during our Super Bowl against Utah State.

I am going to say something I don't say often. Congratulations to David Brandon for doing something right.
Most of all, though, congratulations to Alexander, Jordan and Meyer for well-deserved extensions and raises.
I could turn this around on you and say he got the money to do this by charging $70/ticket vs App State instead of the $50/ticket that everyone wants to pay, but I won't do that.

Great. I am surprised no one came after Jordan this summer but very happy.
I don't think this raise would prevent a young riser like Bacari or Jordan from taking a head coaching position elsewhere, but it should be enough to keep them from making any lateral moves.
I like the thought of Bacari or Jordan succeeding Beilien.

This is excellent news, of course, and indeed the rewards are well-deserved for a staff that has been essential in getting Michigan basketball back into a position where it is send players to the NBA regularly and bringing in excellent talent behind them, all the while competing at the highest of levels in Division I. Congratulations to them and many thanks for their continued hard work. As someone mentioned, the stability definitely doesn't hurt either.

Beilein and Michigan are doing well to keep his staff together. I was afraid at least one of them would have left for a HC job by now.
in place that would indicate succession planning. I'm not anxious to see Beilein go of course but I do think the seeming lack of interest from other schools for the assistants is because it's known what the long term plans are.
jordan was the 2nd choice for the butler job last year. there will be interest from other schools in jordan and bacari. meyer might be too old at this point. i bet that jordan and bacari know that provided nothing goes astray, and both stay, they will be competing to be the next head coach.
other than an acknowledement from Brandon that he would like to promote one of them when Beilein steps down. I think the timeline is too long for a specific plan, plus choosing one of them now isn't the greastest lure for keeping the others.

Jordan is so admired within the program that Alexander, another rising coach, endorses him to be the next head coach at Michigan.
"In my mind, I think he would be a great progression, when and if the time comes, when coach Beilein decides to transition on," Alexander says.
Alexander is 37, and he set a goal for himself to be a head coach by age 40. But he looks at Jordan and thinks of the Michigan football team's defensive coordinator. Says Alexander: "I would be more than willing to be (Jordan's) Greg Mattison. We want to continue to work together. I just think the world of him."
That's very encouraging for the future.

Today has been great (other than USA losing).
Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose. Winning or losing is all one organic mechanism, from which one extracts what one needs.
The only real loser was Portugal (who won).
Surprised we didn't hear much about other schools pursuing the Michigan assistant coaches for head coaching jobs. Have we escaped for another year with this staff intact?
At this point, I'd say we're safe for another season. The NBA didn't steal any NCAA coaches and there really weren't any high profile NCAA firings this year to trickle down to mid majors having to do coaching searches.
It's only a matter of time though. I think the secret is out how good our assistants are.

for this program later tonight, when three Wolverines could be drafted into the first round of the NBA. Few schools can boast of this achievement, and so the rewards of coaching development are well-deserved and rewarded.
Even with the early-entry losses impacting this team, you get the feeling here and elsewhere across the Michigan blogosphere that this program is ascending beyond what few imagined a few short years ago, and that this success threatens to overtake, dare I say it, fan base feeling for the football team.
And there is no question that Coach Beilein has made this happen with a very capable staff which is now being properly recognized for its effort.

I believe it was Coach Alexander who said he'd be willing to stick around and be the top assitant coach, forgoing any headcoaching opportunities, if and when Coach Jordan takes the top spot. Hopefully that doesn't have to be discussed for a great while.
Well deserved raises for all of them. I think there's more to this team than just Beilein as it's really taken off since the staff was gutted. Keep them around forever!
especially when you look at these assistants as the "teachers" they are. All of them have done a great job of helping Professor Beilein get the maximum effort, production, grades, and results from the students that keep graduating early to their chosen profession!
