Updated ESPN 300 for 2015
ESPN has recently updated their top-300 for 2015, and Michigan currently has the 23rd ranked class. The only other B1G school ranked in the top 25 was Penn State at 4.
Michigan commits currently in the top-300 are:
Garrett Taylor (110)
Tyree Kinnel (188)
Grant Newsome (240)
Darrin Kirkland Jr. (263)
Other players of note:
George Campbell (11)...obviously not likely
Justin Hilliard (13)...doesn't seem to be trending well
Jashon Cornell (16)...no longer considering, just note-worthy
Keisean Lucier-South (18)...fingers crossed
Damien Harris (28)...not holding my breath
Jacques Patrick (50)
Hjalte Froholdt (99)...current Arkansas verbal; not sure if we're still in it
Chris Clark (108)...back off, Urby
Osa Masina (122)
Brian Cole (137)
Mikey Weber (153)
Shaun Crawford (157)...recently departed ND verbal
I'm sure I missed a few names. Sorry if the formatting sucks...I don't post often, but thought some might be interested.
Man, I really want KFC.
Mmmm...KFC.
...Must be vegetarians.
like to see KLS in this class. Just looking at the quality of the secondary in the coming years it will give an elite pass rusher that extra second or two which makes for a huge difference in production. Not to mention there would be the right balance of being able to compete for the 2 deep right away but not be relied upon for results from day one
Every position on D has legit depth... except WDE. After Clark's graduation we are left with Ojemudia (Sr.) and Marshall (RFr./So.). There are no other true WDEs on the roster. Furbush may move there after a Redshirt but that is no guarantee.
KLS would be a huge get and a position of great need. Would be inserted into the rotation as a true Fr and challenging for the starting spot as a Soph.
After looking at that list and where we stand with most, I'm depressed again. Hoke definitely needs to win THE EAST at the very least in 2014.
I hadn't really looked at a "top-whatever" list to see how things were shaking out...could be a pretty bleak class unless we perform on the field this fall
Andrew David - 2 star (like kickers are)
Tyree Kinnel 4 star
Alex Malzone 4 star
Darrin Kirkland Jr. 4 star
Grant Newsome 4 star
Garrett Taylor 4 star
Jon Runyan Jr. 3 star
Things clearly going horribly. We got a 2 star kicker and a 3 star lineman. If this is the outcomes of 7-6 what the hell happens when Hoke wins 9 or 10 again?
#skynotfalling
The issue is, that could basically be it. We are guaranteed not one more blue chip recruit out of that bunch. That class, with 7-8 more three stars puts you once again outside Rivals top 25 for a second straight year. Not even Rich Rodriguez managed to do that.
Thank you.
It's nothing against the kids that are currently verballed, but what's the ceiling here? It's starting to look like the low, basement-level variety where you have to watch your head upon entering.
This class once contained a 5* RB and WR...now it's possible we fill our class with players who the coaches probably consider secondary options rather than must-haves.
No one is panicking, just realizing that the "experts" probably won't view this as a great class
with 4 stars and very few can say that but yeah the sky is absolutely falling.
but that cat gives me the heebie-geebies.
I never claimed the "sky is falling," just that this class, as a whole (size included) probably won't be as good as I had hoped...but winning this fall could change a lot
This is nuts. Our class is almost all 4-stars, or highly rated 3-stars, and we have a good number of 4-stars we have a very good shot with. Why the panic? Sure, it will be a small class, but on a per-recruit basis, it will be every bit as good as our best classes over the last decade, or very close to it.
Really? Not one more blue chip recruit? How bout a 5* TE heavily favoring Michigan? And do 4* kids not count? The doom and gloom is crazy. Cra-zy.
As for Rich...he actually recruited some pretty good classes. The problem wasn't recruiting, it was retention. Losing almost an entire class of 27 kids is worse than USC-level sanctions. Follow that up with losing roughly half of another large class and it's about as bad as it gets (short of SMU). That said, we are now getting strong classes and they're all staying (which is why the class sizes are now small). Ok, you can go back to needlessly worrying now.
There is no such thing as a 5* TE in the 2015 class.
Edit: Maybe to Scout, I'm talking about 247 comp rankings.
We were outside the top 25 last year because we only signed 16 kids. Our average points per recruit would have landed us around the top 10.
Hard to get more "points" FSU when they have 12 more signees.
goes like that. You get a bunch of 4 stars then you have to compete with EMU for the remainder of the team.
If you look at Alabama I bet they are missing out on recruits too. It's much more fun to assume the worst.
You two have a terrible case of star-hating. UM is second in the B1G with 4 top-300 on this list (behind PSU). The overall "ranking" will be low due to limited spots, but UM is "in on" Clark, KLS, Masina, Cole, Weber, and KLS (all would be higher on 247 comp than Taylor. Add Wheatley, Boykins, and Roseboro. Then consider Patrick and Hilliard as longer shots. There's still a lot on the board to be interested and excited about, and I'm sure there will be others over the next few months.
AND we all know how great Big Ten football has been the last decade. /s
Saying we have the 2nd best recruiting class in the B1G is basically saying we have the 8th best recruiting class in the SEC usually.
Even with the over-signing and inviting healthy players to leave your statement is factually incorrect. You can pretend this class isn't a good one if you want, but you're wrong...and I think it'll continue to get better.
We're in on KLS twice! Buckle up?
Obviously, 4-point restraints are warranted.
we need 6* recruits! Hoke has not had a SINGLE one in any of his recruiting classes.
Every class could be a bleak class if we don't do well on the field. Have you ever said "Man, no how many games we win this year, all the best players are going to want to come to Ann Arbor!"?
We have a healthy chunk of the top 300 players in the nation.
What about Wheatley?
EDIT: Wheatley is a 3 star and outside the ESPN 300. Weird that they have him that low considering he has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, USC and UCLA, in addition to us.
We have a full season ahead of us to help us with recruiting. We're not doing too badly now anyways.
