I don't worry about his number, but i certainly hope he carefully follows the washing/drying instruction label, that jersey looks like it would almost fit my 10 year old daughter.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think getting worked up about jersey numbers is kinda silly. Guys will wear numbers. Most of them will be different from other ones.

Maybe they can just give each player his own unique alternative jersey. Shoulder stripes for you, piping for you, some kind of foam latex body suit for that guy.

The #1 jersey use to be the only one that received special attention and was given to our top wide receiver. Now the jersey number situation has gone a little overboard with the fan base and the school. I know #2 isn't a legacy yet. Though Some kids are going to feel pressured into accepting a legacy number, when they would prefer to wear another jersey number.

Though they’ll probably feel it’s disrespectful to turn down a legacy jersey. Many people fail to realize that playing sports is part psychological. Some players do get mentally connected to wearing certain jersey numbers… some to the point of superstition.

Shane Morris looks real nice wearing #7 and he may feel comfortable with that jersey. Though he’ll probably be asked to give it up, and run around with a big 98 on his back. Something that could mess up his psyche and disrupt his comfort level.

Tom Harmon was a great player and a statue should be built along with his jersey being retired. Though lets be honest, in today’s game, #98 is an awkward looking number for anybody other than a defensive linemen to be wearing. The other legacy jersey numbers at least fit their respective positions.

If anyone really thinks his success or failure at Michigan will depend on what number he is wearing, you must be joking.  Right?  RIGHT?

I just read this whole thread...wow.  I'm always on this site but never post, but after seeing everyone freak out about numbers I just have to say...everyone just cool out.  It's been said  by others but get over it.  They can hand out whatever number they please.  Good for Peppers.

Recruiting prop to me. The jersey to the left is the #1 and to the right the #3. There are no name plates on those spaces. This is all about nothing.

You may be right about this being a recruiting prop, but if you pay close attention to the distance between Jabrill's nameplate and the edge of his locker, you'll see that your comment that the adjacent lockers don't have nameplates is baseless. They wouldn't be in the photo whether there or not. So that "evidence" of this being from a recruiting trip is equivocal. If it's from a recruiting trip (an important question to answer if we want to put this behind us), then this would *likely* be a picture that's already been in circulation. Can we find a 12-month-old match?

False. The "angled tip that stops abruptly" that we see on the right could be the upper left hand corner of many numbers. In the Michigan numeral font, a 3 is one of them. It's equivocal.

Meanwhile the one on the left is absolutely a #1 jersey. The arm proves it begins with a one. The chest numeral (because it displays a numeral whose right border extends as an unbroken block from the top until the picture ends halfway down its length) is only consistent with a "1", so it appears the jersey is either a #1 or a #11. But the most telling trait of all is the fact that the chest numeral is centered *precisely* under the midline Adidas logo.

That tells us that the arm numeral is the only numeral.

I hope they give Peppers the #2 jersey, especially if they even hinted at it during recruiting.  Then again I also thought Gallon should have worn #1 last year...he earned it.  No disrespect to #21 intended.

We can't say whether there's a nameplate over that jersey. If we pay attention to the spacing between the locker border and the beginning of the Peppers nameplate, we see that neither adjacent locker could possible show its nameplate in this close-up photo. Bust out your ruler if you don't believe me.

No doubt I'm a fan and that brought me in reach of a question about a barely visible Michigan jersey. But my tendency to try to answer it the way I've been--to be quasi-verbose, detail-oriented, equivocate where necessary, and express myself at least semi-quantitatively so long as it's possible--are more emblematic of my occupational hazards than my fandom problems. Though there's no doubt I have those problems..
