I just hope they play good football instead of that trash that happened in 2010.
Chile's a quality team, a lot better than their FIFA ranking They've been really good the last year, had draws in Spain and Brazil and whipped England in London, finished qualifying with five wins a draw, mostly against teams that qualified for the WC.
I'm excited to see Chile play. I think they will dominate the Socceroos today. The current manager is sticking with the 3-4-3 or 3-3-1-3 setup that Bielsa ran in the 2010 WC.
Can it really be a group of death with no hopers like Australia as the 4th team?
...but I guess my criterion is that it'll probably have the best team knocked out.

I never understood the hate.
I mean, I get that if you don't like a sport you don't like a sport—I myself have never been big into Cricket. But it makes no sense to go into a thread and downvote it/troll just because you don't like it. If anything by wasting their time complaining about the sport, they're validating it.
I've said this before and I'll say it again. I think baseball is worst and really boring, but I don't go into baseball threads just to flame and neg posts.
To be fair, maize-blue was a bad ass football player in high school who taunted the soccer players at his school, so we should probably show some respect. I mean, it's not like my 10 year-old nephew could just throw on some pads and play football - oh wait, he does....

I'm going to Ghana to work at a hospital for a couple months next week, but not flying over until Friday. I wish it was a few days earlier, because I'd love to watch the US-Ghana game over there.

OK - that was clearly the linesman being paid off disallowing that goal on the Mexico corner.
That looked pretty close to me, I'm excited to get to halftime to see what they show us in the studio.

Missing the call's understandable but they got it wrong.
I get the benefit of replay, but they got BOTH calls wrong.

Offside on the initial header off the corner. Not clear if he called it on dos Santos or Peralta.
Can anyone explain to me why this is offsides? Is the rule different for corner kicks?
It wasn't on the corner kick, it was on the header that was the initial touch after the corner (you can't be offside on a corner because all players are behind the ball when the corner was played).
t looked like dos Santos was just past the last defender when the ball was headed. You basically can't have any part of your body that can legally play the ball past the body of the last defender.
It looked to me that the defender flicked the ball on, and so it should not have been offsides.
This is correct. Choupo-Moting got the touch in the area before dos Santos put it in. Not offside when off the defender.
Ahh alright thank you, I didn't think about the header causing offsides to come into play.
This match is a million times better than the match yesterday.
The heavy rain adds another element as well.
But if you don't care who wins, this is pretty exciting soccer. Which is good, because the next match is probably going two teams holding onto the ball for minutes at a time.
For soccer to put a 2nd referee on the field.
That way you always have someone in front and behind of the play.

I mentioned this to a co-worker today. Imagine if the NBA was officiated with just 1 official. That's 5 on 5 and a playing surface that is considerably smaller.
I understand you have linesmen, but that's not enough, they're too far away too.
ESPECIALLY for the World Cup, it makes no sense. They bring in extra officials/umpires for the NFL and MLB playoffs...it's the World Cup, put at least one more guy ON the field out there.

Agree. But soccer is such a purist sport. They won't change anything at this point. It's almost like wrong calls are just a part of the game that people want. Very different from the more American sports where we seem to try more to get calls correct, especially calls that are difficult for the official to judge/see or are crazy important.
