Spartan Radio

I listened to the MSU game on my drive home from our major disappointment. MSU played a great game against a solid team. With that said, George Blaha and Jim Miller are not very good radio guys. I know every team has homer radio guys, but these guys are near insane and make up their own football rules. The most annoying instance was an unnecessary roughness call against MSU. Miller, a former Spartan QB, actually said "the unnecessary roughness should be called on Stanzi for leaving his Receiver out to dry with a late pass". So the ref should throw the flag on the Iowa QB for an unnecessary roughness hit by a Spartan DB on the WR?!?!?! They kept whining, and choosing not to describe how the hit was "legal" - all while saying that these refs should have to go to extra summer training. Finally the sideline reporter pointed out that it was a helmet to helmet hit, to which they falsely replied that helmet to helmet never applies unless the guy is defenseless. There was a lot of other whining and ripping on the BigTen for having the worst refs. Anyways, long drive back after we looked awful. We have to improve, our line played awful and the drops and QB problems are mounting. Here is to a better game at Illinois.

that MSU lost, but let's not kid ourselves: if Donovan Warren makes the same hit on Golden Tate and gets flagged for a helmet to helmet, this board would have a meltdown. Besides, after yesterday's performance, and where our program is at at this point in time, all schadenfreude should be enjoyed quietly. We have a ways to go before I will feel comfortable gloating over the misery of our rivals.

I agree that a lot of people would be upset if the tables were turned. I would be upset if UofM fans blasted the B10 refs as being the worst in the country without even explaining why the refs were wrong and then tried to apply 2 false rules to the issue after the sideline reporter said it was helmet to helmet.

George Blaha needs to just die already. NOBODY THINKS IT'S AWESOME THAT YOU CALL ALL THE PISTONS BY THEIR FIRST NAME, GEORGE. YOUR LAST NAME PERFECTLY DESCRIBES THE HORRIFIC SOUNDS THAT COME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH

I was in Louisville, KY, the day Michigan defeated MSU during the 1997 championship run. After watching the game at a bar, I headed over to a Pistons exhibition game at Freedom Hall (the University of Louisville basketball stadium). Blaha had done the Spartans radio that day, and flown down to Louisville to do the Pistons game right after. I was wasted out of my gourd, and was one of only about 2,500 fans in attendance. So when I spotted Blaha after the game, I went up and introduced myself to him as a long-time Pistons fan. After shaking Blaha's hand, I proceeded to ask him what he thought of Michigan's six interceptions that day, and whether he though Woodson would get defensive POW honors for his highlight-reel pick... He wasn't cool about it.
