Michigan scores two touchdowns and a field goal to beat FSU 17-3. Michigan is one win from the Womens College World Series!

That was a good old-fashioned ass whooping.  I don't really care for softball, but I had fun watching that.

They have to be feeling pretty dejected and I bet they didn't sleep well. We destroyed their All American pitcher and every other person they put in the circle. Great game to watch! Saw a lot of it on delay because of kids/bedtime and the misses didn't change the channel while I had the game paused (this time, at least!).

Absolute domination. They have to stay focused now, and with Hutch I have no doubt that they will be.

Nebraska is up 4-2 on powerhouse Alabama right now. I would love to see multiple Big Ten teams in the WCWS again this year.

Is huge. Now they just need one of two and FSU has all the pressure on them. I wasn't really planning on watching this whole game and was more involved than I ever have been for softball. I'm in for tomorrow, for sure! Go Blue!

is certainly on FSU.  They are down from this ass whopping.  Softball is a fickle game.  The blow out could actually affect their game tomorrow.  They could give up just as easy in game 2.

I will be traveling tomorrow so I will not see the game.

Our ladies hold the record for most runs scored against FSU in their history. Way to go.

88-18 vs the ACC for a reason.

18-3 vs florida state for a reason.

Win game 2 tomorrow and finish it quick.

That went from oh shit to bloodbath in the span of an inning, and then they decided to resurrect fsu so they could be tomahawked again in the 6th. Most runs put up on fsu in program history; Chief Osceola be like dang...

It is a nice boxscore indeed - 17 runs on 15 hits and, in addition, we got 8 free passes from FSU pitching. Florida State, on the other hand, only managed their 3 runs on nine hits and were struck out nine times by Wolverine pitching. You have to like Betsa's 4 1/3 innings and 7 Ks in particular in this one as well. Dominating all around.

Full boxscore is already up here - LINK

So excited I got to go. That 7-run inning took the air out of the stadium pretty quickly. So proud of the ladies, and ready to watch them kick some more ass tomorrow. This may be my only chance to see Michigan play at FSU so I'm taking full advantage of it.

Go Blue!

More importantly, sweet dreams to the Michigan Softball Team!  One more win and on to The Softball World Series!!  GO BLUE!!!

Unbelievable performance, truly phenomenal!  And you're right, thank goodness we have a coach who will keep the team's heads level.  Still gotta win tomorrow,, or this doesn't count for anything.  Still, hell of a good start!

At a conference this weekend, so I can't watch any of it - just found out the result a minute ago.  Hope tomorrow goes well so that I can watch us in the WCWS!

wow, I'll eat some crow. Not that I thought we would lose. But because I didn't understand a post where someone here thought we should have been the favorite @ ASU and @ FSU when they are both ranked much higher and have much better records. But I was blown away when I was finally able to see a UM softball game for the first time in a few years.

Would be great to see them get into the World Series unseeded on the road the entire way.

go blue.

My tv provider doesn't offer big ten network here in Nova Scotia and it drives freaking insane. I have gone on their website 1000 times and sent my provider the email about including the big ten network in their programing and it hasn't worked yet Bell expressvu you suck giant elephant balls!!!

On another note...Great job ladies, take it all the way to a world series victory!

First, although FSU's Lacey Waldrop entered last night's game with a 36-5 record and a .9 ERA, my guess is that none of the ACC teams she faced had the top to bottom-of-the-order hitters that M has. So when Ms Waldrop watched so many of her pitches sail or ground safely into the outfield, it was a new and unsettling experience for her. Plus the fact that she had so much difficulty finding the plate that M had plenty of runners on base when those hits rained down.

Second, according to the commentators, Waldrop's offspeed stuff has been her bread-and-butter. Hutch apparently coached the players to sit on the offspeed pitches, hit off the back foot and drive the ball "into the green." The results showed once again why Coach Hutch is the iconic figure that she is in Michigan athletics.

Now that the M players have seen Waldrop for several innings, they should be ready for her if she gets the start today, which she probably will given that this is a must-win game for FSU. And even if she doesn't start, the other FSU pitchers don't seem to pose that much of a problem for the M hitters. Go Blue.
