Johnny Manziel texted Cleveland Coaching Staff: "Hurry up and Draft Me"

Submitted by Lionsfan on

During his mini-draft slide, Johnny Football apparently got bored waiting around the Green Room, and was talking to the Cleveland QB Coach. According to Coach Loggains:

“We’re sitting there and they keep showing Johnny on TV and Johnny and I are texting and he shoots me a text and he says, ‘I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to be there. I want to wreck this league together.’ “When I got that text, I forwarded it to the owner and to the head coach [Mike Pettine]. I’m like ‘this guy wants to be here. He wants to be part of it.’ As soon as that happened, Mr. Haslam said, ‘pull the trigger. We’re trading up to go get this guy.”’

Is this the first time someone has been excited to go to Ohio?

The OSU players who have beat us 9 of the last 10 years were probably excited to go to Ohio.

I hear the tat artists are the best in the world.

I'm sorry to you for being such a naive homer. Tressel's "dirty cheating" was not worth points on the field. Carr's recruiting was going very well through '06 or so - as good or better than OSU's - and he still got beat because he was nowhere near the coach Tressel was. Look at the tapes. Their coaching edge was huge in those battles.

Seriously pathetic deflection and one that can only be made by someone lacking in logical thinking.

He lied more than once in order to keep his players eligible and have a chance at a national title.  How many times do we have to go over that it wasn't just about the tattoos, it was that Tressel KNOWINGLY lied about everything that he knew more than once.

Are you saying that some of his best players getting suspended wouldn't have an affect on the score?

Everything that went wrong with RR's Michigan career started with recruiting.

Our classes were high on the star rankings but filled with 5'7 slot receivers and DE/LB tweeners. Not to mention striking out on every QB recruit in his first season.

We didn't come close to beating Tressel in recruiting.

Wow.

Follow the conversation. My angle was clearly based on Tressel vs. Carr. The recruiting was showing dark signs just before Rich Rod showed up.

Rivals rankings

2002 UM #16, OSU #5

2003 UM #17, OSU $41

2004 UM #8, OSU #16

2005 UM #6, OSU #12

2006 UM #13, OSU #12

2007 was the class where the recruiting momentum actually slowed down. It had two huge gets (Donovan Warren, Ryan Mallett) and a lot of sleepers.

keeps saying that they don't want Johnny to think he is in "Hollywood" - yet they keep releasing information that contradicts that.  Between the "he's a backup", to "a homeless man told me to draft him", to this.

Clearly their actions speak louder than their words.

because i just spent it digging into the internet reading about thanos, ultron, the avengers 2, the avengers 3, and guardians of the galaxy.

i had never even heard they were making a guardians of the galaxy movie - it looks like they're trying to brand it like a star wars kind of deal. and then if it's successful there's the potential for cross-over with avengers 3. it's so interesting that marvel has transitioned from creating serial comic books to serial comic movies.

Now, I will assume you're a Detroit fan and respond to you with this: Cleveland is far and away a better city than Detroit and both franchises equally suck, so Cleveland has the edge.

If you're not a Detroit fan, then I apologize for the snark comment.

Lol that sounds better. Im still surprised they didnt draft Watkins at 4. I guess they think Bennet and Austin will provide enough offense in Gordon's absence.

I can admit that I wanted Watkins at 4, but in the end, we got the better deal. We have a defensive-minded head coach, so it isn't surprising that he wanted a CB. I can argue that having two lockdown CBs is as important or more important than having two elite WRs.

Bennett and Austin have been around the league for awhile and can play. All rookies are unproven, whether the first pick or an undrafted FA. I like the pickup of these guys because they provide experience and some measure of reliability; it's not guaranteed that any draft pick would provide any of that. I'm happy that they signed some vets instead of rookie WR. The front office clearly favors vets to rookies in most positions.

Greg Little is a bust and sucks. They would not release him if he were a good player. Regarding Gordon, he is a fucking moron who knew he was on thin ice. They're not trying to suck by drafting the top CB available and also Manziel. I hate to break to anyone who thinks Manziel is going to suck, but he is going to be a good football player in the NFL.

I imagine Manziel would've been glad to be drafted by anyone at that point. His ego was probably hurting after being rumored as a top 5 pick and then having to sit there for over an hour with everyone in America snickering at him

I am a Brownie fan, been one my whole life.. Manziel has the "It" factor. There aren't too many of those players around. I believe deep in my heart that he will be the one to turn it around. He has the swagger and attitude to lead a team to victory. Or maybe I am still drunk from the draft...

He's not particularly tall and a lot of his 'wow' plays from college were him running in circles holding the football in all sorts of terrible positions. He's not going to be able to do that in the NFL. Bold statement: Manziel throws twice as many picks as he does touchdowns this year

On the one hand, you can't blame Cleveland for finally being able to jump at the chance to draft someone who actually wants to play for the Browns.

On the other hand, maybe part of the reason they have such a lousy track record with QBs is because their decision making process goes, "this guy wants to be drafted.  Good enough."

A beggar in Cleveland apparently can choose because lets not forget a beggar was sitting in the street next to a trash can and spotted the owner the night before the draft and said "Draft Johnny Football" and they did.

August 9th against Lions.

What has Cleveland to lose?  They won just 4 games last year.

If they win 8 this looks great.

If they win 10 this looks incredible.

No one can even name their starter from 2013.  Who cares?
