OT: Former RB Mike Milano Convicted of Misdemeanor Assault

Submitted by marlon on
Mike Milano, a former walk-on running back, assaulted Michigan hockey player Steve Kampfer last fall in a late night altercation. Yesterday, at the conclusion of his trial, he was acquitted of felony assault charges, but convicted on the misdemeanor count. http://www.annarbor.com/news/former-wolverines-walk-on-acquitted-of-fel…

from that story. How in the world does the judge so firmly believe in his innocence, when there's no question that Milano attacked him? Whatever led up to it, there was a consensus that Milano initiated the physical portion of the conflict. I heard Dantonio wants to beef up his walk-on program to keep up with RR, he should look into Milano's eligibility when he gets out of jail.

When it comes to brawls where everyone, participants and witnesses alike, is hammered, facts may be sparse on the ground. What exactly happened? Could it have been self defense? Perhaps the jury felt if someone is injured, someone else must be guilty and so were acting outside of available facts. The standard is reasonable doubt, and the judge may have felt it was exceeded.

That's what happend here. Kampfer was being extremely less than kind with a lady friend. Milano got involved. Two guys fought, the loser got hurt, so the winner is to blame. The judge heard conflicting stories from witnesses on Kampfer's side. The jury had to punish somebody when a person gets sent to the hospital.

They just felt like they had to. Or some felt that way very vociferously and the rest decided screw it, I just want to get out of here, let's reduce the charge to a misdemeanor and call it a day.

Stealing stories from Brian and posting them here. Geez, the Scout-ness of this board is growing like a cancer.

But when I go to a blog, I kind of read it before I post stuff or contribute. I know, that's a strange philosophy. But that's OK--most people who subscribe to Scout or Rivals (meaning they PAY for that shit) don't read it before posing either. Hence, 33 threads on the same topic day in and out.

Weird. Not everyone does everything the way you do it. If we did, we'd all have negative 600 points, and none of us would be able to post.
