Chad Lindsay To OSU Comment Count

Brian

A much-needed boost to Michigan's offensive line is apparently headed to the worst possible place:

Well played, Urban.

Running around in a circle is a little over the top, but only a little. That Lindsay rejected his former OC and an almost certain starting spot is alarming, and now Michigan enters next year with zero senior scholarship OL.

I think this really tells us all what we already know, but just don't want to hear:

OSU is just a more appealing option than Michigan right now. They've won 24 games in 2 years, led by a proven winner at head coach, and we're fresh off an uninspiring 7-6 season in which our offense was a complete tire fire, and our O-Line was a mess of historic proportions.

If Nuss, his own damn offensive coordinator for two years, couldn't even get him to come here, what does that say about the state of our program?

Exactly what I was thinking. Take off the maize and blue glasses and the choice is clear. He's not interested in academics, legacy or the reach of the alumni base. He wants to start for a team that stands a good chance of winning a lot of games under a head coach with a proven track record. Unfortunately, that's not happening at Michigan next year.

GRADUATES? ummm  Is this really headline news?  Can we act like Michigan grads once in a while?  Damn, I know I post some crazy stuff but I go to every game and use that as the basis to post.  If You don't support, how can you post from behind the internet "safe" wall.  Too easy, but a free ride with zero skin. Got it.  Check yourselves as a fan base.  You may turn into those you post about.  Or it seems, you already have.

Hoke et al better be saying to this kid...you can come here and compete and try to win a position but I like what we have. Meyer et al is saying essentially friend or foe go with the dough. Is this one kid going to make that much of a difference long term? No. The head coach who encourages a certain culture makes the difference. Going after this kid has more downside than upside. Have fun in Columbus.

Hmmm, I'm simply not optimistic about Hoke or the program at this point, but I hope I am very wrong.

I recall a similar feeling about Beilein a few years back after starting 1-6 in the conference, he has been emphatically successful since. Hopefully Hoke can do something similar after a win over MSU this year.

It will be interesting to see how many people are still whining about transfers and calling for major changes in the program after we win the B1G and Rose Bowl this season. So much of any team sport is chemistry, and that was what we were lacking last season. Fix that and this team has plenty of talent to be successful.

Yes I'm pretty sure that Lindsay at center would have been a significant benefit to the maturation of the Oline. A guy with two years of playing time for the OC, who started four times and played in eight games, who has experience calling the audibles in the new system takes a lot of pressure off the rest of the line. IMHO he would have been a great get. Unfortunately we didn't get him.

So the offensive line is EXACTLY where we expected them to be following the Nussmeier hire. A bunch of still young guys with varying amounts of in game playing time who have to learn the third new offense in four years. This is opposed to last season with a line where all but two players had never taken a single in game snap who were learning their second offense in three years.

The world has not ended. Rebuilding continues. The only issue here is that there is no reason not to expect another tough season where the team can be expected to win anywhere between seven and twelve regular season games with the highest likelihood clustered around eight or nine regular season wins. As a result of not having a chimera to justify expectations of an 11+ win regular season the destruction of hated rivals all the depressed pessimists here can roll in self assured disappointment. Oh the horror!

You guys need to get a grip.

Not sure why, but when RichRod comes up in these debates/arguments I get hotter than 1000 suns. So over the bitching. Hoke and company have recruited some of the best recruits across the nation. It's time to coach them properly or get replaced. Teams will always have holes/injuries/etc... Other guys should be coached and respond like a top division one program should.

Time to move on.  A one year stopgap would just get in the way of the existing group's development.  It would have been nice on paper yet we can look forward now with the guys that committed.

I'm looking forward to 2014 being an improved year, yet without seeming somehow pessimistic, 2015 is the true litmus test.  We will have crazy depth by 2015 and able to protect either Morris or Speight, plus open up lanes for Green, Smith, or anyone else.  Mediocrity sucks, yet 2015 is when the ship will truly turn.

In the meantime, time to coach 'em up!

Brandon is worse than the devil, but he had no problem letting Brady Home be the star of the 2011 Michigan football team. Every story about that team was about Hoke. Every Saturday SportsCenter had a little graphic about Hoke turning the program around. Brandon didn't fire him.

It's such a cop out to blame the AD whenever a coach is struggling.

No coach who ran a prostyle system was going to succeed with what Rich Rod left him. Maybe a spread option coach would've, but no prostyle coach could have.

You're the same idiots who wanted Beilein fired after 3 seasons, only you didn't care because MBB was so bad you didn't pay attention to it until it got good again.

Who else could Brandon have hired that year? We picked an AWFUL year to to fire a coach, there just wasn't any options. Jim Harbaugh wasn't leaving California and defintiely not without being the highest paid coach in CFB. So $6 mill/year.

Harbaugh has a better shot of coming to Michigan NEXT year than he did back then.

So we really had nothing. Les Miles isn't/wasn't coming and wouldn't have solved anything Hoke hasn't solved, and after that it's the Schiano/Ferentz/Edsall level coaches and that's not a significant upgrade over Hoke.

It just feels worse because of COURSE when Ohio fires there coach, they get Urban fucking Meyer. They lucked out.

I said this last time some guys were bitching about Hoke/Brandon and the search.

Michigan got it's #2 choice and ended up with Brady Hoke

Texas got it's #8 or #9 choice and ended up with Charlie Strong

Think about that...think about how much better of a coaching pool was potentially out there this year vs. when we had to make a hire. Texas didn't want Strong, they won't admit it, but he wasn't even on the list at first. They got 5-6 no's before his name even surfaced. Michigan got a no from Harbaugh and instantly Brady Hoke's name is in the mix.

That's just bad luck. Or maybe it's good luck, I'm not sold that he's not a good coach...I think it's too early to tell just like at this point in Beilein's career it was too early and you guys would've fired him after year 3.

At this time we kind of suck and OSU has a good chance of winning the B1G this season. That is why he decided to play with them. I was hoping he would go with Nuss! Oh well, we will just have to develop our own guys and hope for the best. I hope we fucking beat OSU in Columbus. Karma may come back to kick his ass!

So apparently Mr. Lindsay, for reasons best known to himself, will play one season for the accursed Buckeyes. Many here regard this as a condemnation of the M football program, a vote of no confidence for Nuss and the coaching staff generally, and an embarrassment that Mr. Lindsay would choose whom he thought was the prettiest girl in school to take to the prom. We couldn't believe that girl was not our collective daughter, Ann A. Wolverine.

But I for one agree with many on this blog who wonder whether a "one and done" player such as Lindsay might have been as much a liability as an asset to a group of young O-linemen who need, along with more experience, a large boost in confidence in their own abilities. These young men did not drop two or three of their recruiting stars between high school and college. They're good, and they'll get better.

At best, Lindsay's presence at M for one year would have been a mixed bag. And who knows? That the coaching staff even recruited someone like Lindsay might jump-start the entire O-line into greater effort this fall.

All year long it'll be:

Fans- "Our O line is too young and inexperienced!"

Followed or preceded by:

"I'm tired of the coaches saying we're young!"

Round n round we go

...of us being down, down, down. 15-11 is the main reason with the conventional wisdom arrow pointing horizontally on the future. Still, bad news compounding is having a PTSD effect on "Michigan Nation."

Did anyone really think a player would transfer from the program with the best "bagmen" in football to a clean program like Michigan?  Lindsay may not have even had to take a pay cut to go to Columbus.

I can't wait until it's legal for everybody's boosters to pay players.  I want to see Michigan on a level playing field with schools that buy whoever they want.  "Meet the Bagman," indeed.
