Jatashun Beachum (Arkansas commit) to visit
Here's the article: http://michigan.scout.com/2/911597.html
Here's his profile: http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=4052337
Here's his other profile: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Jatashun-Beachu…
It's behind a paywall so I don't know when he's visiting, but he's a d-lineman so hurray.
edit: He's got a nice name too.

His nickname: Big Tex.
When is he visiting? For the Ohio State game, of course.
This would be cool.

I assumed he'd be here for the Ohio State game, but I just didn't want to say anything definitively.

He stole that nickname from Musberger who slapped it on Ryan Mallett when RM was at Michigan.
I'll bet Musberger sues for copyright breach.

Very good offer list (all big 3 Florida schools, Oklahoma). Get the kid on campus and show him what we got to offer.

Yeah its a very nice offer list, OU is not listed in his rivals profile but is on his scout profile that is a big name to be missing but everyone knows how Florida recruits so that speed can't be too bad. Thats assuming he is being recruited by everyone as a DT which may not be correct. He just committed on the 11th (was it a caught in the moment decision?), I wouldn't be surprised if this visit was set up before his commitment.

Arkansas deserves to have this kid stolen away from them after they went and sold that damn snake oil to Dequinta Jones.

There is no reason whatsoever for coaches to go after verbal commits, unless it would simply be a waste of time. They don't really mean anything and are often used to simply reserve a spot at a school to make sure of a chance to get a scholarship. I have no problem with Arkansas going after Jones, just like I had no problem with Rodriguez going after Roundtree. As long as no recruiting rules are being broken, it's fine because verbal commitments are meaningless.
I understand the frustration here and I really think that the NCAA needs to enable either early signing or a formal verbal commitment that makes it illegal for opposing coaches to attempt to contact the recruit but that the recruit can opt out of on his own. However, as neither thing exists, I have no problem with coaches going after verbal commitments.

of your comment, I presume you mean by your first sentence either that:
(1) there are many reasons for coaches to go after verbal commits, unless it would simply be a waste of time; or
(2) there is no reason to attack a coach who goes after verbal commits.
If I'm mistaken, please clarify.

I guess I thought it was rather appearant that it was intended as a joke. RR says all the time that if a guy is taking visits he is not commited. I have no problem with Dequinta Jones going to play for the piggies. I just thought it was a good "snake oil" opportunity.

What does this do for these athletes? This a pretty big decision for them, why rush it? How many schools did we all visit before deciding on UofM (or wherever you went Irish?)
If you really want to play, why not wait and see where other guys are going, how the teams are doing and what the coaches are like? I don't think academics are as important for an undergraduate but I do think we got Hagerup due to the Business School (that kid's tape was a marketing tour de force.)
The more time they take the better off we all are. There is no duping a teenager into the kind of work it takes to play on Main Street. It's best that they are committed from the start.
I also think RR likes to talk to the very end...it's one of his strengths. The current system is good for Michigan.

Looks like another first stringer on the All Name Team.

Shaping up to be a monster day for visiting recruits, if all the information on the recruiting trail is accurate.
That weekend just keeps getting better and better.

Kick Ohio States ass. The Big House will be as loud as it has ever been. I'd imagine a high school kid would be blown away.

275 pounds, 4.6 40. i'm impressed.

Yeah, that's a 9 fakes out of 10 40-time.

looking at his highlight stuff...idk. he's a freak
October 21st, 2009 at 9:52 PM ^
Yeah, there are some schools looking at him at RB, if Im not mistaken.

I'd be interested to see what a guy like this would look like at running back in Rodriguez's offense. If you spread out a defense with 4 wide receivers and then get this guy to the second level against some linebackers or defensive backs, that could get messy for those DBs. His feet are pretty nifty, so I bet he'd be okay in some zone schemes.

I love me some snake oil!

whats more impressive is that he is a high school QB at his size. He would add an element of surprise putting him under center in our offense. Could you image what would be going through DB's minds seeing a 265 pound QB running full speed at you? that when you either go after the ankles or step aside and trip him because you dont want to me on the receiving end of that hit.

Seems like a stud recruit. Let's get him on campus and show him what we've got.
